That’s how Mark Robinson’s aides characterize any attention to his diatribes against Jewish people, gay people, women. They want voters in North Carolina, where he is the Republican nominee for governor, to see him as just another conservative whose straight talk and religiousness come under predictable fire from the ambassadors of wokeness. And Robinson’s fate will be an especially revealing referendum on just how much, in the America of 2024, tribalism trumps common sense and common decency and voters tune out the truth. The governor’s race pits Robinson, who’d be North Carolina’s first Black governor, against Josh Stein, the Democrat, who’d be its first Jewish one. And they’re the very foundation of his improbable political career: He was elected lieutenant governor of North Carolina in 2020 almost solely on the basis of a single speech in opposition to sensible restrictions on firearms.

The task force suggested that extensive and intensive behavioral interventions are the best way to help a child get to a healthy weight. A high BMI for a child is defined a little differently than it is for adults, although both use height and weight to estimate mass. Nearly 20% of children in the US have what’s considered a high BMI. The task force gives its guidelines letter grades based on the most up-to-date science. Under the Affordable Care Act, private insurers must cover preventive services that get a grade of A or B; the new child obesity recommendations got a B grade.

That’s why it is crucial for central bankers to insist on 2%. “By communicating an explicit inflation target — and then delivering inflation consistent with that target — central banks earn credibility with the public,” New York Fed President John Williams said in a recent speech. Stripping away highly volatile categories such as food and energy — a measure referred to as “core” inflation — won’t quell central bankers’ concerns. The Fed can’t ignore CPIAlthough CPI isn’t the inflation gauge the Fed targets, central bankers don’t write it off. It was, however, welcome news to Fed officials that Consumer Price Index-measured inflation fell to 3.4% in April from 3.5% in March.

Now it's aiming to meet high-end collectors through a new partnership with Sotheby's that will create a collection of auctions for trading cards valued at more than $100,000. Fanatics has quickly moved into the trading card space, acquiring Topps in 2022 and signing several exclusive card licensing deals across professional leagues, including the NBA, NFL and MLB. "It's also an opportunity to really elevate sports trading cards, and create these moments with some of the most important and prestigious cards." According to Amnesty, the estimated 30,000 children currently held in at least 27 detention facilities and two detention camps – Al-Hol and Al-Roj – in northeastern Syria represent the highest concentration of children arbitrarily detained and deprived of their freedom anywhere in the world. CNN was granted extremely rare access inside detention camps and facilities for suspected ISIS fighters and their family members, including Panorama prison. ‘A breeding ground for the next generation of ISIS’At Al-Hol, a sprawling detention camp of faded tents, rusted barbed wire and wind-swept earth, the scale of the problem reveals itself. Marian Robinson, Michelle Obama’s mother and a linchpin of the Obama family who moved into the White House and provided stability and care for the family’s two young daughters during a tumultuous time in Washington, died on Friday. Her death was announced in a statement by Ms. Obama, former President Barack Obama and other members of the family. The statement did not give a cause, or say where she died. Raised on the South Side of Chicago, Ms. Robinson was known as a loving, tough-minded matriarch who was never fully comfortable with the trappings of the White House, but who helped care for the Obama girls, Sasha and Malia, while their parents were on the road. “Just show me how to work the washing machine and I’m good,” she would say, the Obamas said in their statement on Friday.
