The pound eased back from Tuesday's two-month highs after data showed British inflation ran at its slowest pace in two years in October, at 4.6%. On Tuesday, the pound rose by 1.8% against the dollar, marking its biggest one-day gain in a year. The offshore Chinese yuan, meanwhile, received some support The offshore yuan , meanwhile, briefly ticked up to a three-month high of $7.2385 against the dollar after domestic industrial output and retail sales growth beat expectations. Evidence of ongoing weakness in China's property sector, where data showed sales fell faster in October and investment in real estate slumped, took some of the shine off the rally. The offshore yuan was last at 7.2577 per dollar, down 0.1% on the day.

Video shared by Ukraine shows the scale of Russian losses at Avdiivka. AdvertisementNew video shows the battered remains of Russian vehicles in an area where Russia has launched its biggest attack against Ukraine in recent months. Aerial footage shared by General Oleksandr Tarnavskyi, commander of Ukraine's Tavriia Operational Strategic Group, on Monday showed destroyed and smoking Russian vehicles in fields near Avdiivka, along with what appear to be dead Russian soldiers. Ukraine has claimed that Russia lost more than 6,000 soldiers and over 400 armored vehicles there in just one week last month. The 53rd Separate Mechanized Brigade on Sunday described it as a "mass suicide" action by Russia and said hundreds of Russian soldiers had been killed.

REUTERS/Brendan McDermid Acquire Licensing RightsNEW YORK, Nov 13 (Reuters) - Shares of financial services firm B. Riley (RILY.O) plummeted nearly 35% on Monday, extending losses for the fourth consecutive session, after it disclosed unrealized investment losses and S&P Global Ratings downgraded a key asset. That markdown resulted in B. Riley reporting a net loss of $75.8 million in the third quarter, compared with a profit of $45.8 million a year earlier. "We do not believe that the recent movement in our share price is warranted based on the fundamental strength and performance of our diversified platform," a B. Riley spokesperson said in a statement. B. Riley has also been targeted by a short seller. "Although B Riley attempted to address short seller concerns on their recent earnings call, the information they provided was limited," said Rick Meckler, partner at Cherry Lane Investments.

The Japanese yen remained vulnerable, hovering not far from a one-year low against the greenback as markets remained on watch for possible intervention by Tokyo. The dollar index , which measures the dollar against a basket of currencies, was last mostly flat at 105.80. There was little relief for the yen, however, which has come under pressure from rising U.S. Treasury yields and continued dollar strength. The Japanese currency was trading around 151.58 yen against the dollar on Monday, just under a one-year low of 151.74 hit at the end of October. Elsewhere, sterling stood at $1.2228 to the dollar, firm ahead of UK average weekly earnings data on Tuesday and a CPI reading on Wednesday.

Getting a second chance after missing wide right from 41 yards thanks to Buffalo being flagged for too many players, Lutz connected on a 36-yard field goal attempt as time expired to secure a 24-22 win over the sloppy, turnover-prone Bills on Monday night. The Broncos (4-5) have won three straight and four of six since a 70-20 loss at Miami. Lutz made four field goals and Javonte Williams scored on a 3-yard run. Allen’s second interception came in the final minute of the first half, and on the first play from scrimmage after Lutz hit a 49-yard field goal to put Denver up 12-8. With 1:47 remaining and the score tied at 38-all against the Chargers on Sunday, the Detroit Lions coach went for it on fourth-and-2 from the Los Angeles 26-yard line. Goff then kneeled down three times, Riley Patterson kicked a 41-yard field goal as time expired, and the Lions prevailed in a 41-38 shootout over the Chargers. The Shati refugee camp in Gaza City was one of the neighborhoods hit by Israeli airstrikes on Monday. Hundreds of thousands of people have remained in northern Gaza despite warnings to move south. David Satterfield, U.S. special envoy for Mideast humanitarian issues, estimated on Saturday that at least 350,000 to 400,000 people remained in northern Gaza. Bushra Khalidi, Oxfam International’s policy lead for the Palestinian territories, said that her in-laws were among the many people who had abandoned their homes in Gaza City, only to return. In their case, the place where they had sought refuge, in central Gaza, received an evacuation order from the Israeli military.

Nov 6 (Reuters) - Wall Street brokerages largely initiated Birkenstock (BIRK.N) with their top ratings, pointing to a likely boost from the German luxury sandal maker's recent investments to increase capacity, expansion into newer styles and brand loyalty. The U.S. military is flying surveillance drones over the Gaza Strip, according to two Defense Department officials and an analysis by The New York Times. The officials said the drones were being used to aid in hostage recovery efforts, indicating that the U.S. is more involved than previously known. While Israel frequently conducts reconnaissance flights over Gaza, U.S. defense officials said it was believed to be the first time that U.S. drones have flown missions over Gaza. The unarmed surveillance flights are not supporting Israeli military operations on the ground, according to the Defense Department officials. But the surveillance flights suggest that the Pentagon is taking a more active role in a key I.D.F.

Goldman Sachs announced its 2023 class of managing directors Thursday afternoon, giving 608 employees the coveted title. It's a smaller cohort than the bank's 2021 MD class, down 5% amid a dealmaking slowdown. Still, Goldman appears to have taken pains to promote employees in revenue-generating divisions like investment banking and trading. Goldman says the percentage of women it promoted as part of the 2023 MD class sets a record, up 1% from 2021. Two years ago, Goldman promoted the largest managing director class in its history, naming 643 employees to the designation in 2021.

The 10-year Japanese government bond yield rose 2 basis points (bps) to 0.970%, a level last seen in May 2013, before retreating to 0.960% immediately after the BOJ announced an emergency bond-purchase operation. Tsuruta sees the tweak as a step toward the BOJ eventually exiting from negative interest rates policy, which he expects around the beginning of next year at the earliest. The two-year JGB yield had ticked up to 0.160%, while the five-year yield reached 0.480%, levels not seen since 2011. On the superlong end, the 20-year JGB yield rose to its highest since July 2013 at 1.735%. The 30-year JGB yield was up 3 bps at 1.905%.

It would be simpler for Riley and Clark to stay enemies if it weren’t for Danan’s signature evocation of horniness — blended here with just a soupçon of pain kink, as a treat. The sexiness is more cutting than her previous two books, with a bright acid pop that brings out the richness. For sheer defiance, you can’t beat Maria Vale’s MOLLY MOLLOY AND THE ANGEL OF DEATH (Sungrazer, 273 pp., paperback, $14.99) — a weird, adorable stunner of a romance. Molly is no stranger to Death. He absently pats her on the back when he shows up in her grandmother’s hospital room and she nearly chokes on an atomic chicken wing.

She was set to appear in court on Wednesday; it was unclear if she had a lawyer. On Sept. 4, emergency workers were called to the couple’s home in Minot, where Mr. Riley was found unresponsive, according to an affidavit prepared by Erin Bonney, an officer with the Minot Police Department, and filed in Ward County District Court on Monday.
