New York CNN —A Jewish legal rights advocacy group has alleged that the University of Pennsylvania and Wellesley College have violated federal civil rights law by allowing for discrimination against Jews. The Brandeis Center, a Jewish civil rights legal organization, filed civil rights complaints with the US Department of Education on Thursday, alleging both schools failed to adequately respond to harassment of Jews. “These colleges and universities have failed to keep Jewish students safe and are in clear violation of well-established federal civil rights law,” Kenneth Marcus, founder and chairman of the Brandeis Center, said in a statement. The complaints argue both schools have violated Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which protects people from discrimination in programs or activities that receive federal financial assistance. In South Burlington, the school district leases the electric buses from Highland, which also supplies equipment to recharge them and pays the electricity bills. Those bills are lower than normal because of a deal that lets Green Mountain Power, the utility serving most of Vermont, draw power from the bus batteries when demand surges. They are part of a network that also includes batteries that homeowners install to provide backup power during blackouts. In total, Green Mountain Power has access to 50 megawatts of battery storage from school buses, home batteries and other sources, said Mari McClure, the utility’s chief executive. Longtime investor Steve Eisman is the latest Wall Street executive distancing himself from his alma mater, the University of Pennsylvania, as the school's leadership comes under criticism for whether it's doing enough to fight back against antisemitism following the start of the war between Israel and Hamas. "The Big Short" investor told CNBC's "Squawk Box" on Thursday that, after hearing fellow finance executive Marc Rowan was encouraging donors to close their checkbooks to Penn, he called the university and demanded his family's name be removed from a scholarship. "I do not want my family's name associated with the University of Pennsylvania, ever," Eisman said he told the university. Much of the frustration from donors is tied back to the Palestine Writes Literature Festival that took place on Penn's campus in September. Donors and fellow alumni signed an open letter to the university's leadership before the festival voicing their concerns about the event.
