Rep. Jim Jordan became the latest speaker nominee to bow to the unruly House Republican conference after a week of division and disagreement about how to move the chamber forward.
After two failed speaker ballots, the Ohio Republican is not expected to pursue another vote on Thursday, instead backing a proposal to empower Rep. Patrick McHenry as temporary speaker, likely until the end of the year.
Without a speaker, the House has been unable to approve a resolution supporting Israel or consider aid to the country.
