Modelo and Corona brewer Constellation Brands is a tale of two businesses. Constellation Brands Why we own it : Constellation Brands' beer franchise, which includes popular Mexican brands Modelo, Corona and Pacifico, is the growth engine and by far the most attractive part of the business. And, the profitability of its beer business — operating margins were an impressive 42.6% in the quarter — puts Constellation in a position of strength. Still, raising an anchor is always welcome news, and talk of its booming beer business would, at last, no longer need the wine-and-spirits caveat. Looking ahead, its beer business should continue grabbing market share and its hard to imagine the wine-and-spirits unit getting much worse.

JPMorgan says this EV charging stock could surge nearly 80%

JPMorgan thinks EVgo's business model of both owning and operating its fast electric vehicle chargers can send the stock soaring. EVgo stock has climbed roughly 10% in 2024, but it's been a choppy ride higher. Electric vehicle-related stocks have been under pressure for most of the year thanks to dimming consumer demand for EVs. "Unlike hardware-software peers, EVgo's fast charging owner-operator model has been scaling well with higher utilization and charge rates in the current muted EV environment," Peterson said. LSEG data shows that, of the 12 analysts covering the stock, seven have a buy or strong buy rating, while the rest rate it as a hold.

Recent hiccups for Nvidia could be the start of broader weakness for the artificial intelligence boom, and investors should consider dialing back their exposure to the stock, according to one small equity research shop. But last quarter sequential growth slowed again and now I'm concerned that it can continue to slow in Q3 and Q4. Elazar is not completely alone in being skeptical of Nvidia, but it's definitely a contrarian stance. Of the 64 analysts tracked by LSEG, 58 have buy or strong buy ratings on Nvidia, with the remaining six having hold ratings. Nvidia's stock is up 700% since the start of 2023, so being bullish has been the right call for Wall Street analysts.

Ilia Yefimovich/dpa | Picture Alliance | Getty ImagesMarkets are in danger of being "whipsawed" by the combination of regional conflict in the Middle East and rising unemployment in the United States, says Stephen Roach, senior fellow at Yale Law School's Paul Tsai China Center. Most Asian markets fell on Wednesday, tracking losses on Wall Street overnight, as investors fretted over rising tensions in the Middle East. A higher-than-expected unemployment rate could prompt the Fed to accelerate the easing cycle to achieve a soft landing. The unemployment rate in September is expected to come in at 4.2%, according to data of a Reuters poll on LSEG, unchanged from the August figure. The unemployment rate had jumped to near a three-year high of 4.3% in July, a dramatic rise from the five-decade low of 3.4% in April 2023.watch now

Despite dovish comments from Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba leading to a sharp plunge in the yen , market analysts aren't budging from their Bank of Japan policy expectations for the longer term. The yen slid to as weak as 147.15 against the U.S. dollar on Wednesday, after Ishiba told reporters that the current economic climate does not require an additional rate increase. The prime minister's comments marked a drastic change in tone compared with the messaging on his recent campaign trail. Though the S & P 500 is up more than 20% in 2024, Evercore ISI sees a patch of volatility ahead as the November presidential election approaches — and the firm has stocks to play either outcome. Evercore ISI thinks that automotive components manufacturer Aptiv could rise in the event of a Harris/Walz win. Evercore ISI called the bank "a flight to quality name," saying it was in a competitive position despite an uncertain backdrop. If Trump wins, Charter Communications is one stock that could benefit from a "potentially benign tax environment" and a pickup in M & A activity, Evercore ISI said. The September harmonized CPI figure had been forecast to come in at 1.9% according to a Reuters poll. The German harmonized CPI figure was last under 2% — which is the European Central Bank's target rate for inflation — in February 2021, LSEG data indicated. For that, the still elevated core inflation rate would also need to ease notably. Within Europe, data published last week showed that the harmonized inflation rate in France and Spain fell below the 2% target in September. Although Harris released more detail Wednesday as part of her 82-page economic plan, it's still unclear what price hikes her administration would see as illegal "price gouging." Thirty-seven U.S. states already have laws that forbid price gouging in emergencies.

A VW Golf GTI stands in a parking lot within sight of the brand tower on the grounds of the VW plant in Wolfsburg, Germany. Volkswagen cut its annual outlook for the second time in less than three months on Friday, citing a weaker-than-expected performance at its passenger car division as pressure on Europe's top automaker continues to rise. The lowered outlook is the latest from Germany's car giants, with Mercedes-Benz and BMW both downgrading their annual forecasts earlier this month as a result of weakening demand in China, the world's biggest car market. Volkswagen said it was cutting its outlook "in light of a challenging market environment and developments that have fallen short of original expectations, particularly at the brands Volkswagen Passenger Cars, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles and Tech. Porsche, the holding company of the Porsche and Piech families that holds most of the voting rights in Volkswagen and is the carmaker's single biggest shareholder, also cut its own outlook in the wake of Volkswagen's downgrade.
