Todd Haimes, who rescued New York’s Roundabout Theater Company from bankruptcy and built it into one of the largest nonprofit theaters in America, died on Wednesday at 66. His death, at Memorial Sloan Kettering hospital in Manhattan, was caused by complications of osteosarcoma, according to a spokesman, Matt Polk. Mr. Haimes had lived with the cancer since 2002, when he was diagnosed with sarcoma of the jaw. As the artistic director and chief executive officer at Roundabout, Mr. Haimes had an extraordinarily long and effective tenure. He led the organization for four decades, turning the nonprofit company into a major player on Broadway, where it now runs three of the 41 theaters.
Rep. George Santos insulted his potential Dem rival's chin during a heated Twitter exchange. The tweet backfired on Santos, who faced quick backlash and raised the profile of his opponent. "Corrective jaw surgery helped me breathe normally & saved my life," Josh Lafazan fired back. Lafazan, who lost his Democratic primary bid for the House seat in 2022, at one point wrote that he wouldn't need to lie to get elected, unlike Santos. "I'll be donating to Josh," wrote another.
MANCHESTER, England, April 15 (Reuters) - Erling Haaland continued his jaw-dropping assault on the Premier League on Saturday as he netted a first-half brace to equal Mo Salah's single-season goal-scoring record in Manchester City's 3-1 victory over beleaguered Leicester City on Saturday. Haaland increased his haul to 32 goals to tie Salah's mark for a 38-game season - and the 22-year-old Norwegian scoring machine has eight games still to play. Pep Guardiola sat out his star striker for the second half at Etihad Stadium on Saturday, giving him some rest before the second leg of their Champions League showdown with Bayern. AWS CEO Andy Jassy, who is set to become Amazon CEO, helped oversee the cloud unit's rise. Amazon CEO Andy Jassy's total compensation plunged last year to $1.3 million. It may still seem like a lot of money, but in 2021, Jassy's total pay was over $200 million. Also, keep in mind that Jassy's base salary in 2022 was $317,500, an 80% leap from $175,000 in 2021. Musk's reign of chaos at Twitter may have saved it from collapse, but there's a long way to go.

I started making TikToks about PowerPoint presentations from my bed. Six months later, I had 3.8 million TikTok followers on my faceless profile and have made over $150,000 from my brand. I started making cool PowerPoints from bed and recorded them for TikTok and Reels. It will also be recorded in history as a battle that exposed more than anywhere the meat-grinder approach of Russian fighting. Taking Bakhmut would be the first Russian gain since it captured (and later lost) the key southern Ukrainian city of Kherson in November. That Ukrainian forces have demonstrated such endurance in the battle for Bakhmut should come as little surprise. Like the current battle for Bakhmut, it too became emblematic of Ukraine’s tenaciousness to defend itself against Russia’s aggression – particularly considering the Ukrainian Armed Forces were far less prepared and equipped. “The battle for Bakhmut in winter-spring 2023 will surely enter the history books as the bloodiest battle in Europe since World War II,” said Masliychuk.
A few other fossil species from around this time still have that claw, but it's been lost in most living bats," Jones added. This species was closely related to two other bat species whose fossils were previously found at the same locale - Icaronycteris index and Onychonycteris finneyi. This indicates there was a greater diversity of species early in the history of bats than previously appreciated. The fossils represent the oldest-known bat skeletons - both very complete and well-preserved. The only older bat fossils are isolated teeth and jaw fragments from places including Portugal and China, dating to about 55 to 56 million years ago.

New cosmic photos of galactic "arcs and streaks" in space were released on Tuesday by NASA's James Webb Telescope. The galaxies are bending space and time in a phenomenon known as gravitational lensing. The SDSS J1226+2149 galaxy cluster shown in this newest photo is around 6.3 billion light years away, in the constellation Coma Berenices, according to the ESA. The James Webb Space Telescope's first deep field infrared image, released July 11, 2022. [1/2] The skeleton of "SUE", the Tyrannosaurus rex is displayed at the Field Museum of Natural History in this undated handout picture. Sealed lips would help saliva secretions in the mouth keep teeth, particularly the enamel, hydrated, Cullen said. An examination of the relationship between tooth size and skull size undercut the idea that large theropods simply had teeth too big to be covered by lips. The study identified large lizard species with lips alive today that possess teeth proportionally bigger than T. rex, relative to skull size. In crocs, teeth show asymmetrical wear, with the side of the exposed teeth facing outward more beat up than the inner side.
As last Sunday’s NCAA Elite Eight game between the Iowa and Louisville women’s basketball teams unfolded, the court at Seattle’s Climate Pledge Arena seemed to become a Broadway stage with an invisible spotlight tracking one player: the Hawkeyes’ Caitlin Clark. When the curtain fell, Clark not only finished with a jaw-dropping 41 points in Iowa’s 97-83 win. She added 12 assists and 10 rebounds to produce the first official 40-point triple-double in an NCAA tournament game. (Assists didn’t become an official stat until 1984.)

The Trump indictment news put DeSantis on the spot, given he's expected to run for president. "I don't know what goes into paying hush money to a porn star to secure silence over some type of alleged affair," DeSantis said. The latest is research published last Thursday by the Global Commission on the Economics of Water. The sum, though, is just $140 million, and the U.S. government’s International Development Finance Corporation is pouring in three-quarter of the proceeds. But there is a decent investment case for water without state or supranational support. Without them, water’s big moment risks getting lost in the weeds. Analysts agree that U.S. equity valuations are expensive, nominally and relative to history and overseas peers. The S&P 500 is still up 3.5% this year, the Nasdaq up 10%, and the S&P 500 price-to-earnings ratio comfortably above historical averages and current international comparisons. "The equity market is buying into a pretty rosy outlook, the 'immaculate disinflation' concept. The S&P 500 is currently trading at around 18.5 times 12-month forward earnings. "Neither of these outcomes are favorable for premium market valuations," Lerner wrote in a note on Monday.
The device, advertised as a way to let long-distance couples share “real” physical intimacy, is causing a buzz among Chinese social media users, who have reacted with both intrigue and shock. After pairing with their partners in the app, couples can start a video call and transmit replicas of their smooches to each other. The kissing device is advertised as a way to share physical intimacy between long-distance couples. While advertised for long-distance relationships, the Chinese device also allows users to pair up anonymously with strangers in the “kissing square” function of the app.
The sale is part of a trend of large companies struggling to integrate direct-to-consumer brands. Dick's Sporting Goods is buying outdoor retailer Moosejaw from Walmart, the company announced Wednesday. Walmart purchased Moosejaw in 2017 for about $51 million to bolster its outdoor and e-commerce offerings. That same year, the retail giant purchased another direct-to-consumer company, the apparel brand Bonobos. Integrating direct-to-consumer brands is often a challenge for big companies.
