Allies of Donald J. Trump are discussing ways to elevate third-party candidates in battleground states to divert votes away from President Biden, along with other covert tactics to diminish Democratic votes. They plan to promote the independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as a “champion for choice” to give voters for whom abortion is a top issue — and who also don’t like Mr. Biden — another option on the ballot, according to one person who is involved in the effort and who, like several others, spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the plans. Trump allies also plan to amplify the progressive environmental records of Mr. Kennedy and the expected Green Party candidate, Jill Stein, in key states — contrasting their policies against the record-high oil production under Mr. Biden that has disappointed some climate activists. The Bidens welcomed the prime minister and his wife to the White House on Tuesday evening, hosting the couple for a casual dinner at BlackSalt, a local seafood restaurant. A man serving a life sentence for kidnapping and other crimes while in a Georgia prison built two bombs which he mailed to a District of Columbia office building and the federal courthouse and building in Anchorage, Alaska, prosecutors allege. The bomb that went to Washington, D.C., was mailed to the Bond Building, whose office tenants include the Department of Justice. "Protecting our personnel and facilities is a fundamental role of our office and of our law enforcement partners," said U.S. Attorney Jill Steinberg, whose office is prosecuting Cassady. Barry Paschal, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's Office, declined to comment when asked to explain the more than four-year lag between Cassady allegedly mailing the bombs, and being charged in the case. Paschal said he could not comment on details of the case beyond those contained in the indictment.

CNN —When President Joe Biden met with a group of Muslim community leaders this week, he recounted a recent conversation he had with first lady Jill Biden relating to the conflict in Gaza. Another participant, who declined to be named, told CNN they remembered the president saying that the first lady had used these words: “Stop it. “Just like the President, the First Lady is heartbroken over the attacks on aid workers and the on-going loss of innocent lives in Gaza,” said Elizabeth Alexander, communications director for the first lady.
