MELBOURNE, Oct 31 (Reuters) - Eddie Jones' resignation as Wallabies coach was the "sensible outcome" in the wake of the nation's disappointing World Cup run, Rugby Australia boss Phil Waugh said on Tuesday. Jones revealed over the weekend he had agreed to terms with Rugby Australia (RA) regarding his exit, less than one year into a contract spanning the 2027 World Cup on home soil. "Eddie's put a lot into 2023 and into the (World Cup) campaign and the performances weren’t where they need to be," he continued. Waugh said that he took Jones at his word and that the reports had not been a factor in his exit. The team has the British and Irish Lions tour in 2025 and the 2027 World Cup on home soil.

The 2.5-metre (8.2-foot) pet pythons escaped after the man took them from a secure enclosure and dumped them in a box outside a residence on Oct. 21 in what police said in a statement was "a domestic related incident". The owner of the snakes – a 25-year-old woman – reported the snakes missing to police, who charged the man with damaging property. According to the Guardian Australia news site, Sydney residents have been searching city streets to try to rescue the pet pythons, named Mango and Bagel, allegedly dumped in anger by the man, who was the woman's ex-boyfriend. BANGKOK (AP) — World shares were mixed Wednesday after China pledged more spending to energize its economy. U.S. futures were mixed and oil prices turned higher. In early European trading, Germany's DAX fell 0.4% to 14,825.07 and the CAC 40 in Paris lost 0.5% to 6,864.02. A solid job market and spending by U.S. households has helped keep the economy chugging along. In the oil market, prices have dipped, taking some more pressure off inflation.

Santos, which aims to start producing gas from Barossa in the first half of 2025, did not immediately respond to a request seeking comment. In a quarterly update issued last week, Santos said an independent expert concluded that there were no specific underwater cultural heritage places along the planned Barossa pipeline route. But the Tiwi people said the pipeline will cause significant damage to ancient burial grounds, aboriginal art and other sacred ancestral sites. Santos was informed about the concerns of the indigenous elders but the company had plans to begin the pipeline construction soon, the group said.

The issue of subordinated securities will not have a material impact on its financial position, the country's largest lender said. The bank is issuing A$550 million worth of subordinated fixed to floating rate securities and A$700 million worth of subordinated floating rate securities, both due in a decade. "The subordinated securities potentially exchange into fully paid ordinary shares of CBA if a non-viability trigger event occurs," the bank said.

Australia sent a Boeing C-17 aircraft and an air refueler plane that has the capacity to carry passengers, taking the total to three, Defence Minister Richard Marles said. He did not disclose the total number of personnel deployed and where the aircraft would be based due to security reasons but said they would not be based in Israel. "It is a significant number of personnel, though, and they're there to support the aircraft and to support what that aircraft might ultimately have to do," Marles told Channel Nine. Australia on Wednesday also unveiled a new A$20 million ($12.7 million) military package for Ukraine, taking its total aid to A$910 million since Russia invaded in February 2022.
