CNN —House Republicans voted on Thursday to block a Democrat-led effort to release a long-awaited Ethics Committee report on allegations against former GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida. The House took a step to effectively shut down a resolution from Democrats that would have required the public release of the report. Last month, before Gaetz withdrew, Republicans on the House Ethics Committee voted behind closed doors – and against the will of Democrats on the panel – not to release the results of the investigation at that time. After the vote, Johnson called the ethics report a “moot point” given that Gaetz is no longer a member of Congress. After the first vote, the House voted on a second, similar Democrat-led resolution seeking to compel the release of the report.

That minivan, the Pacifica, is struggling, along with most of parent company Stellantis’ US models. Stellantis’ problems just led to the sudden departure of CEO Carlos Travares this week and a search for both a new boss and answers to its problems. But there are costs to keeping the Chrysler brand, including splitting scarce marketing dollars with the healthier brands, and relatively little downside to shutting it down. That wouldn’t be the case in closing Chrysler, since virtually every Chrysler dealer also sells Jeep-, Ram- and Dodge-branded vehicles. Since the early stages of Syria's bloody civil war that began in 2011, Iran has supported Syria's strongman president, Bashar Assad. Advancing in the face of Russian and Syrian airstrikes, they overran Syria's fourth-largest city, Hama, on Thursday. Earlier in the Syrian conflict, Iran helped orchestrate interventions on Assad's side by its powerful Lebanese proxy Hezbollah in 2013, and Russia in 2015. Cogburn and Marbley are also not the first judges to back off retirement plans after an election. As McConnell himself highlighted, a district judge did the same about-face after President George W. Bush’s reelection in 2004, and another changed his retirement plans when Obama won in 2008. CNN’s messages seeking comment from the two judges submitted with the judges’ courts were not returned.
