Two co-owners of a Colorado funeral home where around 190 decomposing bodies were found last year pleaded guilty Thursday to federal fraud charges, officials said. Semaglutide, the active ingredient in Ozempic and Wegovy, appeared to reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease in people with Type 2 diabetes, according to a study published Thursday in the journal Alzheimer’s & Dementia. Another study, published in August, found that semaglutide appeared to cut the risk of dementia in people with Type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is a risk factor for dementia and Alzheimer’s. The study found that patients prescribed semaglutide had a significantly lower risk for Alzheimer’s disease than those who had taken one of the seven other diabetes drugs. The biggest difference was seen when comparing patients who took semaglutide to those who took insulin: Semaglutide patients had a 70% lower risk of Alzheimer’s, the study found.

Corporate earnings are not meeting expectations thus far. Roughly 160 S & P 500 companies have posted third-quarter results thus far, with their bottom lines growing an average of just 2.6%, per FactSet. The blended growth rate, which includes the reports already out and estimates for those on the docket, points to overall S & P 500 earnings growing at 3.4% from the year-earlier period. The S & P 500 rebounded slightly from a three-day slide on Thursday due in part to strong earnings reports. Companies slated to report earnings after the close Thursday include Deckers, Capital One and DexCom.
