Analysts generally say that for consumers in China today, daily essentials, rather than discretionary goods, are in. Top picks Both are on Jefferies' top picks list for the China consumer in 2024. In addition to being a staple at business dinners in China, Moutai has tried to branch out with co-branding in chocolate, ice cream and coffee. But the company said it expected the Chinese market to "to return to mid single-digit growth" in coming periods. The firm analyzed 80 publicly-listed consumer companies with a majority of revenue from mainland China.

You might be planning to donate to your favorite causes over the holidays, but scammers are also out in full force, setting up fake charities to take advantage of your generosity. Knowing whether you're donating to a legitimate charity isn't easy, however. Scammers often use fake websites and emails with official-looking branding. Other times, they might use an altered caller ID to trick you into thinking they're calling from a real charity. With that in mind, the Internal Revenue Service has been reminding people about bogus charities and what you can do to avoid them.

According to Ad Age, in 2022 the Progressive Corporation spent more than $2 billion on advertising in the United States, pouring more money into the effort than McDonald’s, Toyota or Coca-Cola. (The insurance industry’s total annual media-ad spending is estimated to be just shy of $11 billion — more than was spent by all the top beer brands combined.) It is an interminable folk tale about buying insurance, propelled by the charisma, or connoted soothing attentiveness, or gently grating peskiness, or something, of Flo, its central character. Flo debuted in 2008, working the checkout of an eldritch white store uncannily devoid of shadows or edges. (In early ads, the store’s shelves were lined with packages of insurance — cornflakes boxes and tomato cans covered with Progressive branding.)

Now for the first time this century, sales volumes at the big consumer goods manufacturers are falling. In the first nine months of the year, Kraft Heinz said the quantity of its sold items declined by nearly 6 percentage points year-on-year. That’s likely to allow Nestlé, Kraft Heinz and Unilever to see flat or modest increases in 2023 sales, LSEG data shows. Earlier this year, outgoing Kraft Heinz Chief Executive Miguel Patricio said the company lost market share to a branded competitor that spent more. Unilever, Nestlé and Kraft Heinz have all pointed to a slowing of price growth in the coming year.

NEW YORK (AP) — Asking for privacy, hip-hop legend and longtime marijuana enthusiast Snoop Dogg says he's going to stop smoking — though he didn't specify exactly what that might mean. Representatives for the 52-year-old Snoop, born Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., did not immediately respond to The Associated Press' requests for comment Friday. That didn't stop ample speculation from fans, many of whom filled the comments of Snoop's post after being caught off guard by his decision. Others applauded the announcement and suggested Snoop may have chosen to stop smoking for his own personal health. Just last week, BIC EZ Reach Lighters announced a limited edition, bag-lighter combo from Snoop and Stewart called " Best Buds Bags."

Kajabi, a popular online course platform, recently announced that its creators had earned more than $6 billion using its platform. "We need a bit of everything," Amsellem said, adding that online communities and social platforms "are not going to solve loneliness" by themselves. For instance, Lennon's community on Kajabi hosts about 3,000 members — roughly the size of a small town in the US. Investment firm JAT Capital sent a scathing letter to the board of the new Bed Bath & Beyond on Friday saying it has refused to answer questions from shareholders and is engaging in what the investment firm called unprecedented "poor behavior." Earlier this month, JAT called on Beyond to fire Johnson. In its letter, dated Friday, JAT questioned why Johnson's board seat was removed after his ouster and said it was an attempt to weaken "shareholders ability to have a say." JAT called on Beyond's board to answer its questions, once and for all, and for everyone from vendors to sell-side analysts to demand more transparency. REUTERS/Hannah McKay/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsNov 16 (Reuters) - British aerospace supplier Melrose (MRON.L) said on Thursday it expected 2023 profit to be 7% higher than its previous expectations, partly driven by stronger aftermarket demand and improved pricing. The owner of GKN Aerospace, which counts Airbus (AIR.PA) and Boeing (BA.N) as its top customers, said trading and margin performance during the four month ended Oct. 31 was better than its previous expectations. Melrose, which spun off its auto and other businesses in April to become a pure-play aerospace supplier, now expects an adjusted core profit of 680 million pounds to 700 million pounds ($842.5-$867.2 million) for the year ending Dec. 31. In September, Melrose flagged a potential cash hit of about 200 million pounds through 2026 after Pratt & Whitney parent RTX (RTX.N) warned of grounding of some engine variants for quality checks. GKN Aerospace has a 4% programme share on the GTF PW1100G variant impacted by this issue.

Waikiki hotel is ditching the Trump name

New York CNN —The number of Trump Hotels continues to dwindle, with the chain’s Hawaii resort the latest to ditch the tarnished name for a less politicized brand. The Trump International Hotel Waikiki is joining Hilton and will no longer have the former president’s name attached to it. In February 2024, the 38-floor hotel will be called the Wākea Waikiki Beach, as part of the Hilton LXR collection of high-end resorts. Trump troublesWith the departure of its Hawaiian hotel, the number of Trump Hotels and Resorts is down to just eight across the world. The Trump hotel in Las Vegas — a hotel condominium of which Trump owns half — had misleading financial statements between 2013 and 2021, the suit alleges, due to income projections based on the sale of residential units that assumed prices much higher than what units were selling for, among other reasons.

SIOUX CITY, Iowa—This community, long known for unpleasant smells wafting from its now-closed stockyards and still lacking some of the niceties enjoyed by other midsize cities, has always felt a bit looked down upon. Its airport code hasn’t helped. Sioux Gateway Airport, or SUX as it appears on tickets and bag tags, has been the butt of jokes in Iowa and beyond for decades. After complaints and failed efforts to change the code, Sioux City decided to lean into its unfortunate designation and, more recently, has expanded it well beyond the airport. Area businesses are increasingly embracing the branding and SUX is popping up all over the place.

Another off-year election, another good night for Democrats – a rejoinder to a spate of recent polls showing alarming 2024 prospects for President Joe Biden. In Election Day’s marquee contests – the Kentucky gubernatorial race, Virginia’s legislative elections and a pro-abortion-rights ballot measure in Ohio – Democrats notched victories. Beyond that, “the real test was Trump’s ability to move voters in a state race,” Cross says. Tate Reeves won a second term – though the race was relatively close for a deep red state.
