Shortly before halftime, Loftus-Cheek went close to securing Milan's third goal, but Radunovic denied his attempt with an outstretched foot. Cagliari went close to a consolation goal in the final minutes when Gaetano Oristanio volleyed Luvumbo's cross, only to be denied by Milan goalkeeper Marco Sportiello. In volatile trading, the U.S.-listed shares of several cannabis firms rose immediately after the Senate vote. Investors expected it to exit the banking committee. An earlier version of the bill, the SAFE Banking Act, had failed to secure a Senate vote despite being passed seven times by the U.S House of Representatives. As a result, legal cannabis companies are denied access to financial services. To get it through the Senate banking committee is a major achievement," Boris Jordan, billionaire founder of Curaleaf Holdings, said in an interview.

The UK goal was ahead of the 2035 ban in the European Union, where most British-made cars are sold. "The timing sends the message that things can change again, making it difficult for companies to manage their investment strategies." Under the new mandate that the government could make public as early as this week, the 80% 2030 electric target should remain - with the other 20% a mixture of fossil fuel models and hybrids until 2035. "In Britain, there's no industrial strategy, no intent for industrial strategy and no desire for an industrial strategy," Palmer said. "The UK (fossil fuel ban) delay is not a good sign in terms of stability, but they have realigned with EU regulation," said Denis Schemoul, director of European vehicle forecasting at S&P Global Mobility.

LONDON (AP) — The British government confirmed Sunday it may scrap a big chunk of an overdue and over-budget high-speed rail line once touted as a way to attract jobs and investment to northern England. The Conservative government insists no final decision has been made about the embattled High Speed 2 project. HS2 is the U.K.’s second high-speed rail line, after the HS1 route that links London and the Channel Tunnel connecting England to France. The government hailed it as a key plank in its plan to “level up” prosperity across the country. The government has also delayed work on bringing the line all the way to Euston station in central London.

LONDON (AP) — Before he hit America, Rupert Murdoch ripped through Britain’s media like a tornado. But politicians from both right and left courted and feared Murdoch, who added The Times and Sunday Times to his stable in 1981. Like other politicians, Blair denied giving Murdoch anything in return for his support — though plenty of skeptics doubted that. For now, Rupert Murdoch remains a magnet for the powerful, and those who seek power, in Britain. The guest list for his summer party in June included Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, many members of his Cabinet and opposition Labour Party leader Keir Starmer.

LONDON (AP) — Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced Wednesday that he’s delaying by five years a ban on new gas and diesel cars that had been due to take effect in 2030, watering down climate goals that he said imposed “unacceptable costs” on ordinary people. U.K. greenhouse gas emissions have fallen by 46% from 1990 levels, mainly because of the almost complete removal of coal from electricity generation. The government had pledged to reduce emissions by 68% of 1990 levels by 2030 and to reach net zero by 2050. Automakers, who have invested heavily in the switch to electric vehicles, expressed frustration at the government’s change of plan. Ford U.K. head Lisa Brankin said the company had invested 430 million pounds ($530 million) to build electric cars in Britain.

Ukraine refused to take 10 German Leopard tanks because they were in bad shape, per German media. Germany has committed 110 tanks to Ukraine as part of a $2.9 billion package. Authorities in Kyiv refused to import the group of Leopard 1A tanks on the grounds that they needed significant repairs, German newspaper der Speigel reported on Tuesday. Germany has committed to sending 110 tanks to Ukraine as part of a $2.9 billion military aid package announced in the spring. In an attack on his own Conservative predecessors as prime minister, Sunak said: “You don’t reach net zero simply by wishing it. The Climate Change Committee, the government’s independent adviser on climate change, published a report in June that criticized the UK’s net zero plans and said there was not enough urgency to reach the country’s goals. Britain is legally required to have reached net zero – meaning the country would remove from the atmosphere at least as much planet-warming pollution as it emits – by 2050. Johnson’s comments led a chorus of concerns from within Sunak’s Conservative party at the plans, which were apparently hurriedly brought forward after Tuesday’s leaks to the media. British businesses also criticized Sunak’s plans on Wednesday.

[1/2] Britain's Prime Minister Rishi Sunak speaks at a press conference on public sector pay at Downing Street in London, Britain on July 13, 2023. In a highly unusual late-night statement after reports that he was planning to row back on some of the government’s key green policies, Sunak said he would set out an "important long-term decision" about the country's plans to reach net zero. With a general election looming next year, Sunak sees scaling back some green policies as a way to win over swing voters "ahead of a general election expected next year." It would be a striking reversal for Britain which until recently was a self-proclaimed leader in climate policy. Sunak said successive governments "have not been honest about costs and trade offs" of going green policies.

A spokesperson for Putin said the Russian president hasn't decided if he will run again in 2024. But Putin's feigned indecision is his standard schtick, a Russia expert told Insider. Putin's spokesman said there are no candidates who would pose a real threat to Putin's power. PODGORICA, Montenegro (AP) — Police in Montenegro said Tuesday they have launched an investigation after an underground tunnel was discovered linking an apartment building with a nearby court depot holding seized drugs and other crime evidence, officials said Tuesday. It remains unclear why the tunnel was dug, officials said, adding that nothing appeared to have been taken away. The court depot contains evidence in current cases but also large amounts of confiscated drugs, officials said. “This was a well-planned and organized action, which has been prepared for months and which resembles action movies,” said Adzic, adding that the apartment from where the underground tunnel started was leased a few months ago. The tunnel hole in the Montenegrin court building was found in a “well-hidden” place inside the depot, said the court President Boris Savic.

Opinion: Why Lindsey Graham wasn’t indicted

(It shouldn’t be confused with the regular grand jury, whose duty it was to decide whether to indict those under criminal investigation.) The special grand jury completed its duties in December. Using the extra layer of a special grand jury is often reserved for complex corruption cases. There are multiple explanations for why some people may not have been indicted despite the special grand jury’s recommendations. Willis may simply have not presented to the regular grand jury some individuals she considered less than provably guilty.

NEW YORK (AP) — Former British Prime Minister Liz Truss has a book coming out next spring in which she will reflect on her years in government, offer advice for future leaders and recall lessons she learned while often being “the only conservative in the room.”Truss, whose 45 days as Prime Minister was the shortest term in British history, is calling her book “Ten Years to Save the West.” The conservative Regnery Publishing announced Sunday that the release date will be April 16. According to Regnery, Truss will recall being asked by Queen Elizabeth II to form a government just two days before the monarch's death a year ago. She also will describe encounters with such foreign officials as Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping. “After more than 10 years as a British government minister, I’ve seen up close the threats posed to global democracy,” she said in a statement. Truss, who had replaced fellow Conservative Party member Boris Johnson as prime minister early in September 2022, resigned Oct. 20.

CNN —The Fulton County special purpose grand jury investigating former President Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn his 2020 election loss in Georgia recommended charges against 39 people, the unredacted grand jury report made public Friday shows. The lengthy list of recommended charges underscores how widespread the special grand jury’s investigation was into efforts to overturn the 2020 election. The indictment also included 30 unindicted co-conspirators alleged to have taken part in the conspiracy, including some people the special grand jury recommended charges against. The special grand jury report was only a recommendation, and the district attorney decided which charges to bring to a grand jury last month before the indictment was returned. The charges against the fake electors were among the most contested in the special grand jury report.

The full 25-page report of the special grand jury, which finished its investigative work last winter, was released Friday morning. However, in addition to the three senators, the special grand jury also had recommended indictments be issued against 18 other people who were ultimately not charged by the regular grand jury last month, in addition to the people who did end up being indicted. Both Perdue and Loeffler, who were sitting senators at the time of the 2020 election, were defeated in early 2021 runoff elections by Democrats, Sens. Graham, a staunch Trump ally, is known to have called Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger after the November 2020 election to ask about absentee ballots in that contest. A special grand jury in Georgia recommended criminal charges against three U.S. senators and more than a dozen additional allies of former President Donald Trump as part of its investigation into efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election – individuals who were not ultimately indicted in the sweeping racketeering case. The special grand jury report, which has been sealed for nine months and was made public Friday, sheds light on the scope of Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis’ two-year investigation into Republican efforts to subvert the 2020 election results in Georgia. Trump blasted the breadth of the special grand jury report on Friday. In addition to the three GOP senators, the special grand jury also recommended charges against 21 additional individuals, including former national security adviser Mike Flynn, Trump lawyers Cleta Mitchell, Boris Epshteyn and Lin Wood, a slew of Georgia lawyers and state Republicans and others. To be sure, Willis may have several reasons for not indicting an individual against whom the grand jury recommended charges, including that they are helping the district attorney's office or that the individual has a strong defense.

MUMBAI, Sept 6 (Reuters) - Policymakers expect persistently slower growth in China, perhaps even more sluggish than current consensus estimates, seeing its transition from an infrastructure- and investment-led economy to becoming consumption-driven as "difficult". "The inflation rate in China is around 0% - that means distortion of domestic demand and domestic supply," he said. This follows economic growth in 2022 recorded at one of its worst levels in nearly half a century. The Croatian central bank chief sees narrowing room for expansionary policies in China, adding, "We have to be careful."
