Female athletes of color have historically faced disproportionate scrutiny and discrimination when it comes to sex testing and false accusations that they are male or transgender. Since the Tokyo Games in 2021, track’s World Athletics tightened the eligibility rules for female athletes with DSD conditions. Male athletes are not required to regulate their natural levels of testosterone, and female athletes who do not have DSD conditions also can benefit. In this dysfunction, boxing eligibility rules have not kept pace with other sports, and the issues weren’t addressed ahead of the Paris Games. Read previewOn Tuesday, Elon Musk's X fulfilled his promise to sue advertisers over their boycotting of the platform. GARM creates frameworks to provide common definitions around areas like hate speech and misinformation; it's voluntary whether advertisers use them. It doesn't rank platforms on these issues, and its role isn't to advise advertisers on where to spend their dollars. US advertisers are also protected by the First Amendment to spend or not spend on whichever media platforms they please. If the X suit moves into the discovery phase, there could be a whole lot more.

Financial-services firms risk the wrath of the Securities and Exchange Commission if their employees make campaign contributions to state or local officials such as Walz. Donating to the campaign would violate the regulator's "pay-to-play" rule, which keeps firms from trying to sway politicians for favors such as managing their state's pension fund. Those employees are also required to get permission to donate to the Harris-Walz campaign. It is possible to sidestep the pay-to-play rule by donating to PACs or Super PACs that aren't directly tied to the relevant candidate. "The Pay-to-Play Rule, although well-intentioned, imposes unique, unquantifiable costs on individuals by impeding their ability to participate in the political process."

But if you’re investing in a 401(k), daily market dramas are no reason to take dramatic actions with your portfolio. There will be days when the market is up and days when it’s down. What’s more, Ornstein said, “Typically, the best days in the market follow the worst days.” Over the past 20 years, he added, if you had stayed fully invested in the market throughout, your average annual returns would be nearly twice what they would have been had you missed the 10 best days. Say you set up a portfolio of 70% stocks and 30% bonds but now it’s morphed into a 60/40 portfolio. And since 1960 there have been far more positive annual returns on the S&P 500 than negative ones, Smith said.

Hong Kong/London CNN —Japanese shares soared Tuesday, clawing back some of their record losses from the previous day and underpinning a tentative recovery on global markets. Markets around the world plunged during Monday’s session when a combination of fears about a slowing US economy, rising Japanese interest rates and crumbling tech stocks combined to trigger a meltdown. The bounce in Japan is “typical after a market crash,” Neil Newman, head of strategy at Astris Advisory in Tokyo, told CNN. “It is too early to conclude that the Japanese stock market has hit a bottom,” they said, adding that any recovery would likely only occur after Japanese companies report first-half earnings in October, or even after the US presidential election in November. The campaign is tapping state political directors to lead outreach to Republicans in their regions, the source told NBC News. However, the source said the campaign is having a difficult time locking in support from certain state leadership teams to head GOP outreach. As part of Sunday’s announcement, the Harris campaign said it will unveil a digital campaign where Republican Harris supporters make “their case online to fellow Republicans.”During the 2020 election, the Biden-Harris campaign relied on independent, never-Trump groups to court GOP voters. That source believes former Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., will eventually endorse Vice President Kamala Harris, though she was not included in Sunday’s rollout of campaign endorsements. The source also said they suggested that the Harris campaign court the endorsement of former Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., who endorsed President Joe Biden in 2020.

Tracking Hurricane Debby Leer en españolDebby was a Category 1 hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico late Sunday Eastern time, the National Hurricane Center said in its latest advisory. The hurricane had sustained wind speeds of 75 miles per hour. Debby is the fourth named storm to form in the Atlantic in 2024. In late May, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration predicted that there would be 17 to 25 named storms this year, an above-normal amount. Without El Niño this year, clouds are more likely to tower to the tall heights needed to sustain a powerful cyclone.

The Summary Many young climate advocates see Kamala Harris as stronger on environmental issues than Joe Biden. President Joe Biden may have passed the United States’ most significant climate legislation ever, but many young environmental activists say they see Kamala Harris as stronger on the issue. But several young climate activists ages 16 to 29 said for them, the expansion of the fossil fuel industry during Biden’s presidency has clouded those successes. Harris’ young supporters have highlighted the settlements she secured as California attorney general with Chevron, BP and ConocoPhillips over their handling of hazardous materials. Sunrise Movement protesters gather near Vice President Harris' Brentwood home on April 14, calling on her to urge President Biden to declare a climate emergency.
