RWE is among the world's largest offshore wind developers, with an extensive portfolio in Europe, and has also secured leases off the coasts of California and New York. The Southeast also has low power prices that could make it harder for higher-cost offshore wind generation to compete for electricity contracts. Texas does not have an offshore wind target. "Today's auction results show the important role state public policy plays in offshore wind market development," Liz Burdock, CEO of the Business Network for Offshore Wind, said in a statement. They included offshore wind development arms of European energy companies Equinor (EQNR.OL) and Shell (SHEL.L), who also have oil and gas operations in the Gulf.

Walmart cuts pharmacist pay, hours while workload piles up
  + stars: | 2023-08-29 | by ( ) www.cnbc.com   time to read: +2 min
Walmart is asking some of its 16,000 pharmacists across the U.S. to voluntarily take pay cuts and reduce their working hours in a bid to reduce costs, a person familiar with the matter told Reuters. Walmart also agreed in late 2022 to pay $3.1 billion as its share of an opioid-related legal settlement, which is adding to its legal costs this year. For example, a pharmacist could go from an 80-hour, two-week pay period to one lasting 64 or 72 hours, the source said. On average, the Bentonville, Arkansas-based retail chain pays its pharmacists more than $140,000 a year, excluding bonuses and incentives, according to Walmart. Earlier this year, Walmart scaled back the hours it operates its pharmacies by two hours at more than 4,500 U.S. stores, amid a shortage of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians that began during the pandemic.

Martin Luther King III, along with his wife, Arndrea Waters King, and their 15-year-old daughter, Yolanda, have developed a set of traditions for this time of the year. The original march, which featured their father as a centerpiece, helped till the ground for passage of federal civil rights and voting rights legislation in the 1960s. "What we know is when people stand up, the difference can be made," Martin Luther King III told The Associated Press in an interview ahead of Saturday. Twenty three years ago, she introduced Sharpton and Martin Luther King III at a 37th anniversary march and urged them to carry on the legacy. And the voting rights marches from Montgomery to Selma, Alabama, in which marchers were brutally beaten while crossing the Edmund Pettus Bridge in what became known as "Bloody Sunday," forced Congress to adopt the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

Rising mortgage rates are hitting potential homebuyers hard, and that is taking steam out of the homebuilding market. That is the first decline in seven months and the lowest level since May, when sentiment first rose out of negative territory. Mortgage rates are now holding solidly over 7%, hitting 7.24% Monday, according to Mortgage News Daily. Higher mortgage rates and the decline in buyer activity has more builders using sales incentives once again. The share of builders using all types of incentives, including buying down interest rates, rose to 55% in August from 52% in July.

In October 2022, the Biden Administration announced its plans to fight against hidden "junk fees." House Democrats now see it as a winning issue and are planning more than a dozen events addressing it. According to a recent report from the Associated Press, with assistance from the Progressive Change Institute, some House Democrats have already held events addressing junk fees and there are at least a dozen or more planned across the country. Speaking to the AP, House Speaker Hakeem Jeffries said that "House Democrats will continue to work with President Biden to fight these excessive fees, hold corporations accountable and lower costs for families across the country." Trump, 77, filed his counterclaim in a second defamation lawsuit by Carroll, 79, who is seeking at least $10 million. The verdict reflected that "Mr. Trump 'raped' her, albeit digitally rather than with his penis," Kaplan wrote on Monday. REUTERS/Cheney OrrAug 4 (Reuters) - U.S. prosecutors flagged a threatening social media post from Donald Trump in a late-night court filing on Friday, arguing that it suggests he might intimidate witnesses by improperly disclosing confidential evidence received from the government. On his Truth Social site, the former president wrote, "IF YOU GO AFTER ME, I'M COMING AFTER YOU!" The prosecutors' filing asked U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan to issue a protective order prohibiting Trump and his lawyers from sharing any discovery materials with unauthorized people. Protective orders are routine in cases involving confidential documents, but prosecutors said it was particularly important to restrict public dissemination given Trump's social media statements. He faces a possible fourth indictment in Georgia, where Atlanta prosecutors have been investigating his efforts to overturn the election results there.
