"He caused the inflation," Trump said of Biden during the June 27 debate. "He decimated the economy, absolutely decimated the economy," Biden said. 'Neither Trump nor Biden is to blame'Global events beyond Trump's or Biden's control wreaked havoc on supply-and-demand dynamics in the U.S. economy, fueling higher prices, economists said. "In my view, neither Trump nor Biden is to blame for the high inflation," said Mark Zandi, chief economist at Moody's Analytics. For example, Trump imposed tariffs on imported steel, aluminum and several goods from China, which Biden largely kept intact.

Jill Biden — the president's wife of 47 years — responded to criticism of her husband's age at a Manhatten fundraiser on Friday, saying the 81-year-old is "not a young man." "When he gets knocked down, Joe gets back up, and that's what we're doing today," Jill said, according to The Washington Post. Jill Biden has always publicly supported the president. However, she added that Jill and the wider Biden camp's unwavering support could be more harmful than helpful. She said this mindset extends to the Democratic party, adding that many will automatically support Biden because of a "genuine fear" that the party doesn't stand a chance with a replacement nominee.

Several adtech companies have been in deep testing mode with Google's Privacy Sandbox for several months, since Chrome turned off third-party tracking cookies for 1% of its users. Criteo, a demand-side platform that helps advertisers place their ads, was also a Privacy Sandbox grant participant. Criteo forecast that if cookies were switched off now, publishers' Chrome ad revenue would decline by about 60% on average. AdvertisementStill, he added, the Privacy Sandbox already seems to be working better than a completely cookieless environment, "which is promising for an early-stage technology." Lucy Lawless is well aware of the "long shadow" her iconic role in "Xena: Warrior Princess" has cast over her career. A Forbes Advisor survey of 1,000 Americans who plan to travel in 2024 showed the post-pandemic "revenge travel" boom is in full force, despite rising inflation. The stats weren't surprising to Thomas, who told BI that this new trend could be partly attributed to the rise of remote work. Revenge travel and other loansIt's not just remote and hybrid working that may have contributed to a rise in travel spending. Travel experts previously told BI they had noticed an uptick in clients opting for luxury air travel experiences, from private jets to first-class and premium-class plane tickets. The microwaved potstickers came out better than I expected — but still not great. These dumplings looked awful but tasted good. AdvertisementAs the way we save for retirement has evolved, some people are now cashing in on the golden age for retirement savings — when benefits were more generous and investments in real estate and stocks boomed. While it's still possible to achieve, a fat retirement account has become rarer. AdvertisementBack in 2007, per GAO's calculations of the Survey of Consumer Finances, around 21% of low-income households had a retirement account balance. While losses weren't as profound for those in the middle-income quintile, their retirement account balances did fall slightly from 2007 to 2019. All of that comes as retirement savings become more of an individual onus.

Last summer, a record-breaking summer for airports, there were air traffic jams and near collisions amid challenges in flight coordination. Based on air traffic patterns and airport density, New York City and Florida are subject to the highest risk of backups. "There is still a shortage of air traffic controllers, but it hasn't led to the worst outcomes that we were expecting when we were talking about the shortage of air traffic control workers even a year ago." The tabletop simulation presented a hypothetical scenario in which cities like Dallas, Washington, DC, and Madrid were at risk of a large asteroid impact. "A large asteroid impact is potentially the only natural disaster humanity has the technology to predict years in advance and take action to prevent," Lindley Johnson, a NASA planetary defense officer emeritus, said in a press release. That's because they didn't think Congress would approve funding for a critical space mission to study the asteroid "unless impact became certain," NASA's summary said. Options for preventing an asteroid impact include shooting the asteroid with lasers, launching a nuclear bomb at it, or simply smacking a space probe into it to nudge it away from Earth. Participants weren't sure Congress would fund the mission unless the asteroid was a certain threat — not a 72% chance of threat.
