A Yale economist says, for some Americans, renting might be the better financial decision anyway. That's according to Yale economist James Choi, who said on a recent Freakonomics Radio podcast that he's a "renter for life." It comes as rent prices are also beginning to fall across the US. This makes it difficult to assess a home's "financial risks," Choi says. While Choi is a "renter for life," he acknowledges that for many Americans, owning a home is about more than just the investment itself.
WASHINGTON — “Here Comes the Bride” will be heard at the White House very soon. Stewart McLaurin, president of the historical association, said special occasions at the White House aren’t soon forgotten. “It’s like being part of the American fabric.”A White House wedding is no guarantee of a lasting marriage. Lynda Johnson Robb said she never thought about a White House wedding, but circumstances practically dictated that she and Marine Capt. Red is her signature color and December nuptials meant the White House was already decorated for Christmas.
But sometimes, the occasion can elevate the final into a historic match, as was the case at the women’s rugby World Cup as New Zealand defeated England 34-31 in Auckland to become the first ever host nation to win the tournament. It had everything: countless tries, a red card, a brilliant comeback, a hat-trick, and a world-record crowd for a women’s rugby game packed into Eden Park. Five minutes later, Cokayne completed her hattrick and set up a grandstand finale with the scoreline poised at 29-31 to England. “You could not have asked for more from the girls, it’s a very special group and we can be immensely proud of what we’ve done for the women’s game. “It will hurt, we don’t want to be losing World Cup finals especially in the manner that we’ve done, but I’m so, so proud of what we’ve done.”
Dan McCafferty, the longtime lead singer of the Scottish rock band Nazareth whose searing vocals propelled a cover of the ballad "Love Hurts" into a 1970s hit, has died, his longtime bandmate announced. McCafferty was 76, Nazareth bassist Pete Agnew said on the band's official Facebook page. "If it wasn’t for Dan McCafferty and Nazareth I wouldn’t be singing," Rose said in a 1988 interview. "Love Hurts," a ballad first made famous by The Everly Brothers and Roy Orbison as well, became an international hit for Nazareth in 1974. The band also scored several hits of their own, including "Hair of the Dog" which is a rock radio staple that continues to get airplay.

Barnhart was one of several Rivian owners who said they were pleased with how accurately Rivian estimates its vehicles range. Feehley and other Rivian owners say it’s common to get questions from curious onlookers in parking lots, or to have people in cars driving alongside them taking pictures. Rivian owners describe being unwilling to ever sell their trucks.
CNN —Matthew Perry opens up in his new book about his attention-getting relationship with Julia Roberts in the mid-1990s and the reason it came to an end. “When I opened it, there she was, there was a smiling Julia Roberts on the other side. I believe I said something like, ‘Oh, that Julia Roberts,’” Perry says in the memoir, recalling his Chandler-style reaction. In his memoir, Perry also discusses his struggles with alcohol and addiction and what ultimately led him to sobriety. And the main thing was, I was pretty certain that it would help people.”“Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing,” by Matthew Perry, will be published by Headline on November 1.
Suddenly, in the midst of discussing what Cohen should wear to the next LoveShackFancy store opening, there was the sound of glass clanging. (Another person confirmed hearing this exchange, though the person close to the company said multiple Zoom attendees did not recall it.) The person close to the company said, "It is not uncommon for trips to have dual purposes — they always generate content." Another time, during a visit to the Palm Beach store, Cohen freaked out after seeing staffers in sweatshirts and sneakers. "As with most contemporary fashion brands, we currently do not operate in the plus-size business," the person close to LoveShackFancy said.
Oct 20 (Reuters) - Tesla Inc (TSLA.O) said on Wednesday it expected to miss its vehicle delivery target this year, but downplayed concerns about softening demand after its revenue missed Wall Street estimates. But Tesla said some logistics challenges would persist, with fourth-quarter deliveries growing by less than 50% while production rose 50%. Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com Register"I wouldn't say we're recession proof, but it's certainly recession resilient," Musk said. Previously, Tesla had repeatedly said it was aiming for 50% growth this year from the 936,172 cars it delivered in 2021. Tesla is expanding fast despite global economic jitters, and investors are closely watching for signs that consumer demand is cooling as inflation surges and interest rates climb.
The report generated mixed reactions from Wall Street, with JPMorgan cutting their price target to $150. "We continue to see risk to guidance for +50% annual unit volume growth over time," JPMorgan said. Tesla's third-quarter report beat profit estimates, but missed revenue estimates, which added to concerns that the company will be unable to reach its long-running target of 50% unit growth this year. According to Wedbush, it's more likely the company sees 45% growth in unit deliveries this year instead of 50%. Here's how Wall Street is reacting to Tesla's third-quarter numbers.
A version of this story first appeared in CNN Business’ Before the Bell newsletter. London CNN Business —Twelve days from now, the Federal Reserve will meet again, and expectations for the central bank’s next moves are firming up. The consensus among investors: Persistently hot inflation means the Fed will need to continue with its string of aggressive interest rate hikes, which is unprecedented in the modern era. In an interview with Reuters on Friday, St. Louis Fed President James Bullard said inflation had become “pernicious,” which means that “frontloading” larger rate hikes is logical. But with two quarters of disappointing deliveries caused by supply chain issues and Covid-related shutdowns in China, that goal has looked increasingly out of reach, my CNN Business colleague Chris Isidore reports.
Some may want to see the explosive, racist diatribes of a handful of prominent Los Angeles City Council members as an unfortunate incident that will eventually fade away. But the reality is that such prejudice from Latino to Latino and Latino to other racial groups is not so uncommon. That was on stark display in the conversation among former Los Angeles City Council President Nury Martinez, council members Kevin De León and Gil Cedillo and Los Angeles County Federation of Labor President Ron Herrera, who resigned Monday. "If you’re going to talk about Latino districts, what kind of districts are you trying to create?” she asks her colleagues in frustration. Zapotecs, or Indigenous people of Oaxacan descent, number about 200,000 in Los Angeles County, one of the largest Oaxacan communities outside Mexico.
A view of Chinese national flags in a street of an old neighbourhood as the city prepares for the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, in Beijing, China October 11, 2022. Smoke could be seen emanating from the roadway above where the banners were hung in Beijing's northwestern Haidian district, according to the images. China's zero-COVID policy, which has led to frequent lockdowns and caused heavy economic damage, has fuelled widespread frustration in Chinese cities. "There was a brave person in Beijing today," one Chinese social media user wrote, adding several thumbs up and roses of support. In Beijing there is no public dissatisfaction caused by epidemic control as in some other remote places in China."

France has delivered Caesar howitzers, portable air defence systems and heavy armoured vehicles primarily. Wednesday's clip made clear to France that it wanted more than just words and promises. France does have the SAMP/T (Mamba) surface-to-air defence system, although quite how many it could provide is unclear. "We have not had any answers from France to our requests on this," Vadym Omelchenko, Ukraine's ambassador to France, told reporters on Monday. Princess EtchBefore the pandemic, Labowitch made a chunk of her income teaching in-person classes and workshops. "I immediately lost a number of jobs, and the number of email correspondents I had about promising projects just disappeared. Labowitch initially started showcasing her art on Myspace in 2007, but most recently, she amped up her TikTok presence by doing live streams of her drawing process. And I developed this whole new, really passionate fan base of people who just really wanted to support me and my business." "If there's anything that I would recommend any entrepreneur indulge in and splurge on, it's an accountant," Labowitch says.

A female "vampire" skeleton was found in a 17th-century Polish graveyard. It was found restrained to prevent the dead woman from returning from the grave. The skeleton had a sickle laying across the throat and a padlock on its big toe. Professor Dariusz Poliński from Nicolaus Copernicus University headed up the archaeological dig that led to the discovery of the skeleton, the Daily Mail reported Friday. Later on, as the lore evolved, people believed that vampires were rising from the dead and strangling people the night.

Sinead O’Connor is alone, which is how she prefers to be. She has been riding out the pandemic in a tiny village on an Irish mountaintop, watching murder shows, buying fairy-garden trinkets online and mainlining American news on CNN. Bubble-gum roses lined the windows, and the Hindu goddess Durga stretched her eight arms across a blanket on a cozy cherry couch. “Deliberately, I bought uncomfortable chairs, because I don’t like people staying long,” she said. “I like being on my own.” But she disclosed this with such an impish giggle that it sounded almost like an invitation.
