The ruling is a pre-trial win for the state Attorney General, who wants him banned from doing business in NY. AdvertisementAdvertisementIn a stunning, pre-trial win in New York attorney general's all-out war on the Trump Organization, a Manhattan judge has found that Donald Trump committed fraud for years by inflating his worth to banks and insurers by as much as $3.6 billion a year. Instead, the judge gave a major victory to Attorney General Letitia James, finding in her favor that Trump is liable for fraud. "The New York Attorney General is none of the above." New York Attorney General Letitia James wants Trump's business banned from New York.

And a new report sheds light on how those efforts are resonating with younger fans. Compared to NFL fans aged 30 and older, fans in their 20s were three times more likely to place a bet every week. And only 11% of fans in their 30s spent more than $1,000 annually on sports betting, versus 28% of younger fans. That number was just 33% among fans aged 30 and up. Most of these fans said they played in a fantasy league during the 2022 football season, but most older fans didn't.

Trump Tower uses millions of gallons of Chicago River water a day to heat and cool its 98 floors. Illinois Attorney General's Office/InsiderThe Illinois EPA responded to the apparent discrepancy by issuing Trump Tower a violation notice on August 31. The two groups are parties to the state's ongoing, 2018 environmental lawsuit against the tower, Trump's tallest building worldwide. Trump Organization lawyers have resisted changing how Trump's Chicago tower heats and cools. Trump International Hotel & Tower in Chicago has used "gobbledygook" math to lowball its impact on the Chicago River, state officials and environmentalists say in court papers.

The field for the second Republican presidential debate will be smaller than the first. Pecans were a cash crop for my grandparents, who supplemented their unreliable farm income in any way they could. Unlike peanuts, the farm’s primary crop, pecans required no planting and almost no care, and they paid out every year so long as someone picked them up before the squirrels got there first. I was astonishingly old before I learned that pumpkins are food. The first year I was in graduate school there, a vine with large, squash-like leaves popped up in my raised beds. They were small, dense, pie pumpkins, apparently planted by the neighborhood squirrels.

The Ukrainian election is complicated by the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia. While being interviewed on "Face the Nation," Zelenska said the political aspirations of her husband, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, have not consistently garnered her personal support. "Even when he ran for the first time, I didn't fully endorse it," Zelenska told CBS correspondent Margaret Brennan. Kremlin predicts Putin's continued political successRussia's next presidential election is also set for 2024, though it remains unclear whether the country will hold formal voting proceedings. Peskov, in early August, said Russia "theoretically" doesn't need to hold presidential elections because it's "obvious" that Vladimir Putin will win "with more than 90 percent of the vote."

LONDON (AP) — Before he hit America, Rupert Murdoch ripped through Britain’s media like a tornado. But politicians from both right and left courted and feared Murdoch, who added The Times and Sunday Times to his stable in 1981. Like other politicians, Blair denied giving Murdoch anything in return for his support — though plenty of skeptics doubted that. For now, Rupert Murdoch remains a magnet for the powerful, and those who seek power, in Britain. The guest list for his summer party in June included Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, many members of his Cabinet and opposition Labour Party leader Keir Starmer.

New York CNN —A group of famous fiction writers joined the Authors Guild in filing a class action suit against OpenAI on Wednesday, alleging the company’s technology is illegally using their copyrighted work. Martin, Jodi Picoult, John Grisham and Jonathan Franzen are among the 17 prominent authors who joined the suit led by the Authors Guild, a professional organization that protects writers’ rights. “Generative AI threatens to decimate the author profession,” the Authors Guild wrote in a press release Wednesday. Two other authors sued OpenAI in June over the company’s alleged misuse of their works to train ChatGPT. Authors should have the right to decide when their works are used to ‘train’ AI,” author Jonathan Franzen said in the release on Wednesday.

Unsurprisingly, then, it wasn’t long before the moral clarity offered by photographs became considerably less clear as politicians discovered the manipulative power of the medium when its goal is manipulation. The beauty of the resulting images by Theodore Lilienthal obscures the dark reality of postwar life for Black Southerners. And yet the most affecting photographs in “A Long Arc” are not — or at least are not merely — visual records of exploitation. The most powerful images capture the beauty and the tenderness and the self-possession of people who are living out their lives mostly invisible to the rest of the world. Or of the ramifications of an unresolved history still unspooling in this history-haunted part of the country.

It’s a grail of contemporary horticulture, a subject of inquiry for scientists and landscape designers alike: how to reinvent the estimated 40 million acres of lawn in the United States, shifting the emphasis toward native plants. Because traditional lawn care is, at its essence, a perpetual fight against biodiversity, a war conducted with mower blades and chemicals. All of the numbers — the gallons of water wasted, the tons of pollution generated — tell us to stop. But what should replace all of that mowed grass? The answer is not easy.

It doesn't look like that's close to happening," Murray told the BBC on Monday. He's played at this level for such a long time now," said Britain's Murray, who won three Grand Slams. In July, 20-year-old Carlos Alcaraz ended Djokovic's Wimbledon reign after the Serbian had won four titles in a row at the All England Club. "Physically, motivation, whether someone like Alcaraz improves - he's an amazing player Alcaraz, he's brilliant, but to do what Novak is doing on a consistent basis is different."

Djokovic’s coach, grand slam champion Goran Ivanišević, has been a member of the 36-year-old’s inner circle since 2019 and he heaped praise on Djokovic’s record-equalling achievement. “This is one of the biggest achievements in sports history, not just tennis.”‘A winner’If Djokovic winning in New York felt inevitable, so too does the possibility of him winning another grand slam before he retires. He admitted himself that Medvedev probably played better in the second set and arguably deserved to win it. But, when it really mattered in the second set tie-break, Djokovic found those extra inches which make him such a dangerous man in those clutch moments. Once the second set was tied up, Djokovic looked reenergised and battled through to yet another memorable win.
