The United States is among over 100 countries that have pledged to cut their methane emissions 30% by 2030 from 2020 levels. They also say smaller wells often produce only insignificant methane emissions that don't warrant the cost and effort of a monitoring program. The problem, environmentalists say, is that collectively, the smaller wells produce a massive amount of climate-damaging methane. Exempting wells that produce less than 6 barrels per day would effectively exclude more than 80% of those marginal wells from the EPA rule, according to KIOGA. The supplemental ruling could also address the industry's use of flaring, or the deliberate burning of excess natural gas from well sites, which can also lead to methane emissions.

David Kostin, Goldman Sachs' chief U.S. equity strategist, said that Wall Street is still expecting too-high profits next year. Kostin recommended investors continue to look at energy, dismissing some arguments that the majority of gains have already materialized. That contrasts other areas of the market, like Big Technology, that have not performed as strongly so far in third quarter earnings season. Kostin also emphasized energy's commitment to returning cash to shareholders as the companies see these stronger profits through dividends and buybacks. When looking at specific companies, he said to still focus on which are returning cash to shareholders.

DOHA, Oct 30 (Reuters) - QatarEnergy's chief executive on Sunday named ConocoPhillips (COP.N) as the third and final partner on the Gulf Arab state's North Field South expansion, part of the world's largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) project. State-owned QatarEnergy had already announced Shell and TotalEnergies as partners in the North Field South expansion and Kaabi said each would hold a 9.375% stake. The North Field is part of the world's biggest gas field that Qatar shares with Iran, which calls its share South Pars. Kaabi said discussions continued with several Asian buyers as "value-added partners" on the North Field expansion, but that the Western international partners were all announced. Several supply agreements were being discussed in relation to the North Field expansion, he said, adding that there would be announcements in due course.

Oct 28 (Reuters) - U.S. natural gas futures fell about 3% on Friday on record output and forecasts for mild weather and low heating demand through mid November, which should allow utilities to inject more gas into storage than usual for at least a few more weeks. The market was still waiting for the return of Freeport LNG's export plant in Texas. On its first day as the front-month, gas futures for December delivery fell 19.1 cents, or 3.3%, to settle at $5.684 per million British thermal units (mmBtu). During the first nine months of 2022, roughly 60%, or 6.3 bcfd, of U.S. LNG exports went to Europe, as shippers diverted cargoes from Asia to fetch higher prices. Last year, just 29%, or about 2.8 bcfd, of U.S. LNG exports went to Europe.

Oct 24 (Reuters) - U.S. natural gas futures jumped about 5% after sliding to a fresh seven-month low earlier in the session on a technical rebound and expectations demand would rise as liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports increase once export plants exit maintenance outages in coming weeks. Some traders expect Freeport will return to service in November while others believe the return will be delayed. Front-month gas futures rose 24.0 cents, or 4.8%, to settle at $5.199 per million British thermal units (mmBtu). During the first nine months of 2022, roughly 60%, or 6.3 bcfd, of U.S. LNG exports went to Europe, as shippers diverted cargoes from Asia to fetch higher prices. A contractor works on a crude oil pipeline at the U.S. Department of Energy's Bryan Mound Strategic Petroleum Reserve in Freeport, Texas, in 2016. There are now about 400 million barrels of crude oil left in the SPR. Since its establishment, only three presidents other than Biden have directed the sale of oil from the petroleum reserve, while exchanges have been more common. Barack Obama directed the release of 30 million barrels in 2011 to offset supply disruptions caused by Libya’s civil war; in 2005, George W. Bush released 11 million barrels to help refiners hurt by Hurricane Katrina; and in 1991, George H.W. Bush released 17 million barrels in response to the Gulf War.
Oct 18 (Reuters) - U.S. natural gas futures fell about 4% on Tuesday to a three-month low as oil and European gas prices dropped and forecasters called for milder U.S. weather over the next two weeks. U.S. gas prices have been declining for eight weeks as record domestic output and reduced liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports have allowed utilities to inject much more gas than usual into storage. Last year, just 29%, or about 2.8 bcfd, of U.S. LNG exports went to Europe. With milder weather coming, Refinitiv projected average U.S. gas demand, including exports, would fall from 101.0 bcfd this week to 95.9 bcfd next week. U.S. LNG exports, however, could start to rise this week if Cove Point returns to service as some traders expect.

In a statement, the Aarhus-headquartered company described it as "currently the world's tallest onshore tower for wind turbines." SPAC mergers announced last year have yet to close and are up against the clock. In 2021 alone, they raised nearly $163 billion, and 275 merger deals were announced, according to data from Dealogic. Several SPAC mergers are now in limbo, among them embattled mortgage startup Better.com, fintech company Aspiration, and crypto startup Bullish, which all announced their SPAC mergers more than a year ago. Those price tags are no longer reliable as they've become outdated, adding an extra challenge to securing financing to close deals during a downturn, experts said. Deadlines to close SPAC mergers can vary depending on the lifespan of the blank-check company in question, but typically range from a year to two years.

The solution: The best investors do both — maintain a long view while also focusing on the shorter term. For the sake of this exercise, let's consider one end of the barbell to be the "long-term view," and on the other the "short-term focus." Long-term view stocks First the long-term view: These stocks will be the more passively managed names and identifying them is what will free us up to focus on those that require more active management. As a result, the long-term view beats the near-term dynamics. With the earnings serving to confirm our long-term view, we took a shot at around the $2,600 level — $2,628.56 to be exact.
