The sewage is exposed to the air and causes a lot of nausea and headaches,” said Veronica Isabel Dahlberg, executive director of HOLA Ohio, a nonprofit group assisting Latino state residents, which has advised mobile home park residents who sued. It is very expensive,” said Yvonne Maldonado, a co-director of Manufactured Housing Action, a nonprofit group that focuses on such communities. “We have recently seen private equity enter the manufactured housing market," PESP housing research coordinator Madeline Bankson said. During hurricanes, the National Weather Service has said, 72% of deaths occur in homes, and of those, 54% occur in mobile homes. She also urged mobile home park residents to organize their communities and if there are complaints, to do it as a group, which is more effective.

Anna Moneymaker/Getty ImagesTop Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee are being careful to keep their options open regarding President-elect Donald Trump’s selection for attorney general, former GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz. Asked if the Senate should receive the House Ethic Committee report on Gaetz, incoming Senate Majority Leader John Thune, of South Dakota, said: “I haven’t given that any thought yet. South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham and North Carolina Sen. Thom Tillis were less insistent on seeing the House committee’s report. Elections have consequences; (Trump) chose Matt Gaetz. “President Trump is going to hit the Justice Department with a blowtorch, and Matt Gaetz is that torch,” Steve Bannon, Trump’s former White House strategist, told NBC News. Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, said she didn't think Gaetz was "a serious nomination for the attorney general." From bitter experience, Trump knows that he needs an attorney general he can trust implicitly, and it might be worth the political capital to battle for Gaetz's confirmation. Little happened in Trump’s first term that angered him as much as Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ decision to recuse himself and appoint a special counsel to investigate whether there were links between his 2016 campaign and Russia. In Gaetz, Trump would get an attorney general who has said Trump won the election that year, as well as an iconoclast who shares his willingness to upset the status quo.

If Kamala Harris' campaign was known for anything, it was its blockbuster fundraising. The overarching challenge at this point for what is left of Harris' campaign is that the financial picture is shrouded in mystery — even for those within the organization. What is even more unusual are the explosive clashes taking place in and around the Harris campaign universe. The requests have all been shut down and two Harris campaign officials told NBC News that the email list is not for sale. “We had some emails pre-scripted for a long fight,” a senior campaign official close to the strategy said.

At TikTok, meanwhile, Chew has remained quiet since Trump’s victory, just as he had been in the lead-up to Election Day. During Thursday’s UN General Assembly session, the South American nation argued that the resolution contained ambiguous terms such as “hate speech,” “misinformation,” and “disinformation” that could be used “abusively” to restrict freedom of expression. A total of 170 nations voted in favor, while 13 others abstained, including Iran, Russia, Nicaragua, and North Korea. Milei, who ran on a libertarian platform, has rolled out drastic social and economic measures in Argentina since taking office. Sen. John Cornyn, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said he “absolutely” wants to see the House Ethics Committee’s findings on Gaetz. “I think there should not be any limitations on the Senate Judiciary Committee’s investigation, including whatever the House Ethics Committee has generated,” he said. Trump has pushed to keep all options on the table to greenlight his nominees, including recess appointments, which would bypass the typical Senate confirmation process. However, Sen. Rick Scott told CNN, “I believe in recess appointments.” Scott had supported recess appointments during his bid for GOP leader, which he lost to Thune. The Supreme Court has ruled on questions about recess appointments, which makes the outcome of taking these questions to court uncertain.

The car parts retailer, which has about 5,000 stores, said Thursday that the closures are part of its “strategic plan to improve business performance.” Advance Auto Parts (AAP) shares slid nearly 5% in premarket trading after it reported earnings that missed analysts’ expectations. The reduction will result in closing roughly 500 corporate-owned stores plus about 200 independently operated locations. The company did not immediately provide a full list of locations set to close. It recently sold Worldpac, an automotive parts wholesaler, for $1.5 billion as part of “simplification” of its business model.

Then, less than six hours after giving birth, O’Neil was wheeled through the labor and delivery unit to go home. Racial disparities persist, she added; for Black people, the preterm birth rate is 1.5 times higher than the rate among all other babies. Many of the regions with high preterm birth rates are maternity care deserts, Williams said. The US cities with high preterm birth rates also are “areas where there are many chronic conditions and patients living with a greater number of things like hypertension, diabetes, obesity – those are all drivers of preterm birth as well,” Williams said. “Every pregnant woman who lives in a maternal health care desert should be provided with access to a health care app that is monitored by remote providers.

The Pentagon, working with the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) and other government agencies, has received a total of 1,652 reports to date, according to the newly released annual report, including 757 new reports between May 2023 and June 2024. The topic of UAPs has garnered tremendous public attention, fueled in part by its inextricable link to UFO sightings and conspiracy theories about the US government hiding evidence of aliens. “It is also important to underscore that, to date, AARO has discovered no verifiable evidence of extraterrestrial beings, activity, or technology,” said Kosloski. The Onion’s bid was backed by the families of eight victims of school shooting and one first responder. Jones was previously ordered to pay $1.5 billion to families of the Sandy Hook shooting victims. Jones had used Infowars to spread some of the most disturbing and disgusting lies and conspiracy theories into the public discourse. Rather than face the humiliation of a rejection vote in the Senate, Cabinet nominees are more frequently withdrawn when it becomes clear they cannot be confirmed. Here’s a look at the Cabinet confirmation process, why it exists, where it’s gone wrong and how Trump wants to find a way around it. Presidents like Ronald Reagan, Clinton and both Bushes did use recess appointments, although usually for positions below the Cabinet level. While Democrats can no longer filibuster Cabinet nominees, they can slow the process down. Then, the Senate rejected Taney when Jackson put him forward for a Supreme Court nomination.
