CNN —Sean “Diddy” Combs has spent his three weeks in jail speaking with his defense attorneys, preparing for his case and receiving visiting from his family, a source close to the music producer told CNN. In a letter to Judge Arun Subramanian, Combs’ attorneys said on Wednesday that they intend to request a trial date in April or May 2025. Following the release of the video, Combs apologized. The motion filed by Combs’ attorneys also alleges that authorities alerted the media about the searches in March of his homes in Los Angeles and Miami. Combs’ attorneys said they want the judge to order the government to immediately produce the materials seized over six months ago.

CNN —Musician and producer Sean “Diddy” Combs, who is charged with racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking and transportation to engage in prostitution, will go to trial in May 2025. The judge in Combs’ federal case set a trial date for May 5, 2025 at a court hearing in New York on Thursday. Combs’ attorney Marc Agnifilo said they will put on a defense case that would likely take one week. Combs’ court appearance on Thursday was his third since his arrest and his first in front of Judge Arun Subramanian, a Biden-nominated jurist who has been on the bench since last year. Combs’ lawyers have said they want to go to trial quickly since he was twice denied bail.

Vice President Kamala Harris revealed this week that she owns a Glock — a weapon that is restricted for purchase in California amid a court battle over the state’s gun laws. The Harris campaign did not specify where and when she bought the Glock, which model she owns or which storage devices she uses. In 2013, as attorney general, Harris cleared the way for a new provision of the handgun safety law to take effect. The political arm of Everytown for Gun Safety plans to spend $9 million to boost Democratic candidates in state legislative contests in five states, the group's first investment in such races this election cycle. “So much of the national progress we’ve made on gun safety can be traced back to pioneering laws passed at the state level,” Everytown for Gun Safety President John Feinblatt said in a statement. “Over the last few election cycles, Everytown has built a winning playbook for electing gun sense champions in key state legislative seats in order to flip chambers and pass life-saving legislation,” he added. The States Project, a Democratic-aligned group, plans to spend $70 million on state legislative races in nine states this cycle, while Forward Majority, a Democratic super PAC, plans to spend $45 million. Gen Z founders and would-be founders are stepping into a vastly different tech world from that of their predecessors — a world where launching a unicorn is far more difficult, and publicly scrutinized, than it was for the garage-band generation of Jobs and Gates. Gen Z is coming of age in an era when the same Big Tech companies are diffuse and dominant. In other words, millennial founders ran so that Gen Z founders could walk. CNN —Taylor Swift has made a significant donation toward helping those affected by Hurricanes Milton and Helene. On Wednesday, Feeding America CEO Claire Babineaux-Fontenot said in a statement posted to the organization’s Instagram page that they’re “incredibly grateful” for the superstar singer’s $5 million donation toward hurricane relief efforts. Swift joins the likes of country legend Dolly Parton in contributing to the hurricane relief effort. She also pledged a $1 million personal donation to the Mountain Ways Foundation, a registered charitable organization dedicated to providing immediate assistance to Helene flood victims. Several of Parton’s aforementioned companies are combining their resources to match her donation to Mountain Ways with an added $1 million contribution.
