related investing news Here's what analysts are saying about Apple's new Vision Pro headset The promise of Apple's new mixed-reality headset isn't really about the headset I got to take one for a test drive. The Vision Pro isn't large enough to fit glasses if you wear them. Even though most of the focus with Apple Vision is on the visuals, I was equally impressed by the audio. The Vision Pro has a pair of speakers that sit near your temples and provide a surround sound effect. But as someone who has tried just about every mainstream headset to date so far, I can tell you that Vision Pro feels like a $3,500 machine.

Isaacson, who had special access to Jobs, thinks Jobs would have loved Apple's Vision Pro headset. Isaacson said Apple's mixed-reality headset is a "big leap" for human-computer interfaces. The late Apple CEO and cofounder Steve Jobs would love Apple's new Vision Pro headset if he were alive, Walter Isaacson, who wrote Jobs' biography, said Tuesday during an interview on CNBC. Apple unveiled its new mixed-reality headset on Monday at the company's World Wide Developer's Conference. Apple Vision Pro is a "big leap" for human-computer interfaces, Isaacson said.

Apple execs didn't mention AI once during the company's WWDC keynote. It was a deliberate choice and a stark contrast to other Big Tech companies that have embraced the term. During Microsoft, Meta, Alphabet, and Amazon's first quarter earnings calls in April, AI was cumulatively mentioned 168 times, for example. Most other Big Tech companies would likely tout these as "AI innovations" to appeal to the current enthusiasm around the term. The word wasn't mentioned one time during the entire keynote, even though many rivals would likely use the word to describe the Vision Pro headset.

A TikToker said she spotted "five, six mice" in the dining room of a restaurant in Baltimore. The city's health department then temporarily closed the restaurant because of a "rodent infestation." The caption on the video reads: "'hey siri: call the health department it's giving infestation." Baltimore City Health Department said that the restaurant had been shut down on Thursday – two days after Lynn's visit – because of a "rodent infestation" and needed to correct the violations and pass a reinspection to reopen. According to a page on the department's website, the restaurant was approved to reopen the next day.

Apple announced a new iPhone feature Monday called StandBy that will roll out with iOS17 this fall. StandBy basically transforms your iPhone into a horizontal smart display when your phone is charging. You will also be able to play music and use Siri when your phone is in StandBy mode. The biggest iPhone is the iPhone 14 Pro Max, which has a display size of 6.7 inches. While it's too soon to know whether the new iPhone feature will have an impact on sales of Amazon's Echo Show, it's clear the device certainly has some new competition.

Today, Apple is launching itself into a whole new area of gadgets. No one seems to care, with Apple reportedly projecting low sales the first year. Just about 16 years ago — on June 29, 2007 — the Internet was introduced to a new micro-celebrity. The fact remains that behind him on that day 192 months ago, a line curled around the block. Did you even know, before you opened this post, that today, Apple is launching another massive new product?

Apple is on the cusp of revealing its future post-iPhone with a big bet on the metaverse. Tim Cook is expected to unveil a new mixed reality headset at WWDC in his riskiest move yet. Apple has the tough task of convincing the world the metaverse is still the future as interest dips. But emerging signs suggest Apple would have a seriously tough time shipping units for its metaverse bet. "If you believe there's something beyond a smartphone then it's probably the metaverse," Munster said.

CNN —Next week, Apple may unveil its most ambitious new hardware product in years, but it’s in a product category that is anything but a proven winner. The highly-anticipated release of an AR/VR headset would be Apple’s biggest hardware product launch since the debut of the Apple Watch in 2015. “So it is great timing for that market.”An uncertain marketFor now, the overall headset market remains small. There were 8.8 million AR/VR headsets shipped globally last year, according to data from market research firm IDC. Unlike almost any other company, however, Apple can create demand for an experimental new product or category.

But it's also had its detractors , and some analysts have warned of the risks of investing in AI. One example is Meta, which has jumped over 100% this year partly as a result of its pivot from the metaverse to AI, Dietze said. How to invest Dietze and Ware agree on one thing: Avoid investing in pure-play AI companies. For such larger tech companies, AI is only going to be a small part of total revenues and profits — so it's safer, although returns will be more muted, he said. Ware added, "Forget making bets on 'pure play' AI companies with no earnings, no moat, and now [higher] costs of capital.

Apple must do what no other tech company has done: make the metaverse cool. The iPhone maker is widely expected to debut its mixed-reality headset next month. The company's making a risky move as the tech world retreats from the metaverse and fixates on AI. In other words, Apple has more to lose by not making a wager on a mixed-reality headset than if it did. "If you believe there's something beyond a smartphone then it's probably the metaverse," Munster said.

But when it comes to artificial intelligence, particularly Siri, Apple has gone from leader to laggard. Siri was introduced to the world in 2011 – 12 years ago – and was lauded at the time as a breakthrough in AI technology. Open-source technology allows developers to collaborate and contribute to a project, leading to faster and more efficient development cycles. Still, Google, which has a long history of open-source involvement, publishes hundreds of AI research papers yearly. While that's helpful (especially for selling Macs to AI developers), it's not the kind of kumbaya sharing that the open-source community relies on.
