The fund last reported a quarterly loss one year ago. "The stock market saw a weaker quarter compared to the two previous quarters," Trond Grande, deputy chief executive of Norges Bank Investment Management, said in a statement. Norway's gigantic sovereign wealth fund was established in the 1990s to invest the surplus revenues of the country's oil and gas sector. The fund reported a quarterly loss of 3.3% on its investments in unlisted real estate, while the third-quarter loss on its renewable energy infrastructure investments came in at 2.4%.

SYDNEY (Reuters) - Thousands of people attended pro-Palestinian rallies in Australian state capitals on Sunday despite police threats to curb them, amid tensions after the bloody Hamas incursion into Israel eight days ago. Pro-Palestine rallies were also being held on Sunday in state capitals Adelaide and Melbourne, where thousands protested, according to The Guardian Australia. Countries across the developed world are curbing pro-Palestinian protests out of concern the Israel-Hamas conflict could trigger violence at home. France banned pro-Palestinian protests on Thursday saying they were likely to "generate disturbances to public order". In Sydney, police arrested three men on Friday outside the Jewish Museum of Australia in Sydney for making Nazi salutes, media reported.

Oil prices on Friday rose more than 4% after the U.S. tightened sanctions against Russian crude exports, exacerbating supply concerns in an already tightly balanced energy market. International benchmark Brent crude futures with December expiry traded 4.2% higher at $89.55 per barrel at around 8:15 a.m. ET, while front-month November U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures rose 4.2% to trade at $86.38 per barrel. The G7, Australia and the EU implemented a $60-per-barrel price cap on Russian oil on Dec. 5 last year. It came alongside a move by the EU and U.K. to impose a ban on the seaborne imports of Russian crude oil.

MARSEILLE, France, Oct 12 (Reuters) - Fiji expect hooker Sam Matavesi to play in Sunday's World Cup quarter-final against England after he travelled back to England, where he lives and plays in the Premiership, after the death of his father, Sireli, earlier this week. Sireli Matavesi moved to Cornwall after touring there in 1987. "It is with heavy hearts that The Fiji Rugby Union, The Flying Fijians Team and Head Coach Simon Raiwalui share the news of our hooker Sam Matavesi and former Flying Fijian Josh Matavesi, who have lost their beloved father, the late Sireli Matavesi," the union said in a statement on Wednesday. "Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to the Matavesi family during this incredibly difficult time. Sam Matavesi travelled to Cornwall to spend time with his family but the Fiji camp say he is expected to be able to play in Marseille on Sunday.
