In the latest sign he's ignoring US warnings, The Wall Street Journal reported that Israeli special-operations forces were carrying out raids into southern Lebanon as the possibility of a ground incursion this week loomed. Getty Images"We are shocked," one US official told CNN after Netanyahu rejected the cease-fire proposal before Israel launched its attacks. It's the latest instance of the Israeli leader ignoring or rejecting Biden's attempts to restrain Israeli military action in Gaza and, more recently, Lebanon.

The second moon that Earth has captured in its orbit this month is an asteroid called 2024 PT5. Mini-moons like this could be ideal targets for asteroid mining to send humans deeper into space. Space mining could be huge, since some asteroids are worth more than our entire global economy. Some startups are trying to figure out how to start mining space rocks, and do it in a cost-effective way. "Either if you are thinking about collecting mineral samples for research or starting a space mining venture, mini-moons are your best bet to get your business off the ground," he said.

Ukraine narrowly won the battle of Irpin in the war's earliest days. That's the conclusion of American and British experts who examined the fighting along the Irpin River northwest of Kyiv. "The Battle of Irpin River was a close-run thing," wrote Richard Sladden, Liam Collins and Alfred Connable in an article in British Army Review, a British military magazine. An attack in the east and south of Ukraine was the most likely course of action, therefore Ukrainian forces were primarily arrayed against this." Russian forces weren't prepared to rapidly deploy pontoon bridges to replace those across the Irpin River that Ukrainian troops had blown up.

“The Supreme Court has a limited role to play death penalty cases,” said Paul Cassell, a University of Utah law professor who is representing a victim’s family in another death penalty case before the high court this year. Another involves an Alabama man who claims he is intellectually disabled and therefore ineligible for execution under Supreme Court precedent. The Supreme Court’s approach to death penalty appeals is “to correct severe misapplications of constitutional law by America’s state court systems,” said Seth Kretzer, a Texas attorney who has represented death row inmates at the Supreme Court. Alabama is appealing that decision to the Supreme Court and has been waiting more than year for an answer. Netflix is producing a docuseries from Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson about charges of sex trafficking and racketeering as well as sexual assault and violent abuse allegations against Sean “Diddy” Combs. It is a complex narrative spanning decades, not just the headlines or clips seen so far,” 50 Cent and Stapleton said in an exclusive statement to Variety. While the allegations are disturbing, we urge all to remember that Sean Combs’ story is not the full story of hip-hop and its culture. At the time, 50 Cent shared a clip on X that showed Bad Boy Records rapper Mark Curry alleging that Combs would spike bottles of champagne at his parties before women drank from them. A new Senate report details what went wrong before the assassination attempt against Donald Trump in July. More adults than thought may have an iron deficiency. → After a sniper with local law enforcement texted a Secret Service leader about the man who would soon fire shots at Trump, it took seven minutes for the Secret Service leader to send an email relaying the information and photos. It’s unclear how long it then took other members of the Secret Service to read the email. More coverage of Donald Trump:The Senate unanimously passed legislation to boost Secret Service protection for presidential candidates.

The Secret Service released its own internal report last week. Sen. CNN —Andrew Holmes’ images of trucks on Californian highways are sun-drenched, saturated and sharp. Now, Holmes’ works have been brought together in a book — “Gas Tank City” (Circa Press) — alongside a show of the same name at London’s Architectural Association (AA). The drawings that make up the "Gas Tank City" book and exhibition celebrate every inch of the classic American truck, particularly the iconic Kenworth model. While the words “hyperreal” and “photorealistic” are used to describe his work, Holmes points out that the drawings are “completely unlike” photographic images. Less than two months into his tenure as CEO, Ortberg has largely understood the assignment. See here: We’re nearly two weeks into a strike by Boeing’s largest labor union. Initially, Ortberg seemed to have buy-in from labor leaders, who publicly acknowledged that the new boss was walking into a conflict that predated him by 16 years. All of that gave the new boss, who spent his first day at work touring a factory floor, a kind of pro-labor halo. “This tactic is a blatant show of disrespect” to union members and the bargaining process, the International Association of Machinists wrote Monday.
