CNN —The US Secret Service on Friday laid out the security measures for the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee next month, including a perimeter that will prevent protesters from gathering at a large park near the venue. The RNC convention will take place at the Fiserv Forum, upper right, just a few blocks northwest of Pere Marquette Park in Milwaukee, as seen on May 14, 2024. Mike De Sisti/The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel/USA Today NetworkFriday’s announcement comes after a monthslong dispute between the Secret Service and the GOP over security measures around the convention, which will take place from July 15 to 18. The party had accused the agency of ignoring its concerns, while the Secret Service said Republicans were undermining efforts to keep the event safe. In April, Republican National Committee counsel Todd Steggerda sent a letter asking the Secret Service to keep protesters farther back from the convention than what had been planned at the time.

O’Brien has requested the opportunity to also speak at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago in August. “Our GREAT convention will unify Americans and demonstrate to the nation’s working families they come first,” Trump wrote. “This is truly unprecedented since it will be the very first time a Teamsters General President has addressed the RNC,” she said in an email.

Former Vice President Mike Pence at the US Capitol on May 16, 2024. This despite history suggesting that, at some point in their potential mandate, a possible President Trump might ask them to so something that tests their consciences, the law or the Constitution. The attractiveness of the vice presidential nomination may reflect Trump’s magnetism and the heady euphoria of being a key player in the “Make America Great Again” movement. He has also made clear to Trump that he wouldn’t have adopted Pence’s interpretation of the constitutional limits on vice presidential powers. Trump said it was his choice to have Milwaukee host the Republican National Convention this summer. They say, ‘Oh, he doesn’t like Milwaukee.’ I love Milwaukee. Lawyers for former President Donald J. Trump pushed back on Friday night in an aggressive — and at times misleading — way against an effort to curb his public attacks on the F.B.I. In a 20-page court filing, the lawyers assailed prosecutors in the office of the special counsel, Jack Smith, for seeking to limit Mr. Trump’s remarks about the F.B.I. on the eve of two consequential political events: the first presidential debate, scheduled for June 27, and the Republican National Convention, set to start on July 15. “The motion is a naked effort to impose totalitarian censorship of core political speech, under threat of incarceration, in a clear attempt to silence President Trump’s arguments to the American people about the outrageous nature of this investigation and prosecution,” the lawyers wrote. The dispute began last month when Mr. Smith’s team asked Judge Aileen M. Cannon, who is overseeing the case, to revise Mr. Trump’s conditions of release to bar him from making any public remarks that might endanger agents involved in the proceeding.

Read previewFormer President Donald Trump on Thursday reportedly insulted Milwaukee, the site of the Republican National Convention in just a few weeks. "Milwaukee, where we are having our convention, is a horrible city," Trump told House Republicans during their closed-door meeting, according to PunchBowl News. President Trump did not say this," Rep. Bryan Steil of Wisconsin, wrote on X, quoting PunchBowl reporter Jake Sherman's initial tweet. AdvertisementSteil later told a local TV station that Trump "wasn't talking about the city, he was talking about specific issues in the city." "We were having broad conversation about the challenges we face in as a country, in particular the challenges we've seen in Milwaukee," Steil said mentioning issues with elections, crime, and public schools.

In a meeting with House Republicans on Thursday, former President Donald Trump called Milwaukee — the host of the 2024 Republican National Convention — a "horrible" city and said it is overrun by crime. The Trump campaign denied that he called the city "horrible," writing in a press release that the reports are a "total lie." "President Trump was explicitly referring to the problems in Milwaukee, specifically violent crime and voter fraud," the campaign said in its statement. Republican Rep. Bryan Steil, of Wisconsin, replied to a post on X that reported Trump's comment that Milwaukee is a "horrible" city. "We'll see that at the RNC — and then again in November, when Wisconsinites send Donald Trump packing."

Former U.S. President Trump found guilty on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records during his trial at Manhattan Criminal Court May 30th 2024 in New York City. Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, was convicted last month on all 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in the historic case. The probation interview is required by the court as part of the former president's pre-sentencing report. Judge Juan Merchan, who is presiding over the hush money case, permitted Blanche to be present for the probation interview over a video call after prosecutors did not object. Some legal experts noted that holding a probation interview over a video conference call is unusual but having the former president in a New York probation would also be unprecedented.

Tickets sold for $50,000 a head, with a $300,000 tier that includes perks like a photo with Trump. The fundraiser in the heart of the tech capital represents a growing shift in sentiment toward Trump, especially in what's been historically a liberal stronghold. "I know there's going to be a lot of people who support Trump, but they don't want to admit it," Sacks said on the podcast last week. Milwaukee based department store giant Kohl's says it will not sponsor any events related to the Republican National Convention in that city this summer, where Donald Trump will be crowned the party's nominee for president. Northwestern Mutual is on the host committee and its CEO John Schlifske is reportedly helping to raise money for the group. The absence of Kohl's from the list of Republican convention sponsors notable, given that convention organizers have publicly touted the importance of Wisconsin-based companies helping to fund and organize the event. The Republican convention is aiming to raise roughly $70 million. Representatives for the Republican National Committee and the Milwaukee host committee did not return requests for comment.

CNN —Vetting materials have been sent to several candidates under consideration to be former President Donald Trump’s running mate, according to a person familiar with the process, as the quest to round out the 2024 Republican ticket heats up ahead of next month’s national party convention. It is unclear which potential candidates have received the vetting materials, and people familiar with the process caution that the search for Trump’s running mate is in flux. Doug Burgum, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and Ohio Sen. JD Vance are all top contenders. NBC News was first to report that the vetting materials had been sent out. In an interview with Newsmax on Tuesday, Trump mentioned Scott, Burgum, Rubio, Vance and Ben Carson, his former Housing and Urban Development secretary, when asked about his search for a potential running mate.

Four days after presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump was convicted on 34 counts in his hush money trial in New York, President Joe Biden’s son Hunter will be called to answer for federal gun charges in Wilmington, Delaware. But a CBS/YouGov poll released Sunday showed that Americans believe 57% to 43% that the Manhattan jury reached the right verdict. His inflammatory remarks did not reflect the fact that his refusal to accept his 2020 election loss and his demagoguery are far more reflective of developing-world banana republics than a fair jury trial. Hunter Biden is entitled to the same presumption of innocence and a trial by a jury of his peers that Trump was. “I’d rather be on President Biden’s side of that contrast than on the extreme MAGA Republican side,” he said.

Convicted felon or not, Trump will be the Republican nominee for president,” Tyler said. Supporters hold placards and flags following the announcement of the verdict in Trump's criminal trial. Or, the guilty verdict could play into Biden’s campaign theme that his predecessor is too corrupt and extreme to serve as president again. In New York, where Trump was convicted, there are “collateral consequences” of being convicted of a felony. In Florida, felons lose civil rights, including the ability to hold public office and serve on a jury. Trump is a Florida resident, and Florida defers to New York law on the question of felons voting. In New York, convicted felons cannot obtain a permit to possess a firearm. That’s not at issue in this New York case, and it’s not going to happen when Republicans control the House as they currently do.

But while Trump's small-dollar donors mobilize amid new Trump campaign ads labeling the former president a "political prisoner," Trump himself is gearing up to raise big money from wealthy Republicans. Trump campaign aides said late Thursday that it was unclear exactly how much the campaign had raised that day from small-dollar donors, but it was enough that the campaign's donation website crashed intermittently.
