But the balance of the evidence from the NBC News Exit Poll suggests that Trump owes his victory to more common, less polarizing factors that drive many elections year in and year out. That included a striking shift of Latino voters into the GOP column compared with 2020 — they backed Trump by 13 points more. Women broke for Harris, 54%-44%, while men favored Trump, 54%-44% — a gap in support amounting to 22 percentage points. But in 2020, Trump performed even worse among women, losing them to Biden 57%-42%. A final factor favoring Trump: his appeal among Americans who are less attached to politics and elections:

Arizona voters on Tuesday approved an amendment enshrining abortion rights in the state constitution, NBC News projects. A fundamental right to abortion is part of the Arizona Constitution once and for all. In April, the conservative-leaning Arizona Supreme Court ruled to reinstate a near-total ban on abortion from 1864. Arizona for Abortion Access, the coalition of reproductive rights organizations behind the ballot effort, had shattered the record for the number of valid signatures gathered for a ballot initiative in the state. Constitutional amendments to enshrine abortion rights were on the general election ballots in nine other states Tuesday: Colorado, Florida, Maryland, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New York and South Dakota.

McBride, a Democrat, defeated Republican John Whalen III, taking 57.8% of the vote with 95% of the vote in. She thanked her friends and family and her late husband, Andy Cray, who died of cancer in 2014, just days after their wedding. He said he persuaded six Republicans to vote for McBride. In 2020, she was elected to represent Delaware’s 1st Senate District, which includes Claymont, Bellefonte and parts of Edgemoor and Wilmington, becoming the country’s first openly trans state senator.

"The expectation among bond traders coming into the election was that rates would move higher in the event of a Trump victory and especially a red sweep. "The builder stocks are highly sensitive to mortgage rates and mortgage rate expectations. Big builders have been buying down mortgage rates for their customers, but that has been cutting into their margins. Mortgage rates don't follow the Fed, but do react to the central bank's thinking on the economy. Stronger-than-expected economic reports in September and October caused bond yields, and consequently mortgage rates, to move higher.

How to cope with post-Election Day stress

Just as in 2020, now is a good time to pause and analyze your physical and emotional stress. “How we view our stress actually matters to our health,” said Dr. Cynthia Ackrill, a stress management expert and former editor for Contentment magazine, produced by the American Institute of Stress. Deep, slow belly breathing activates the parasympathetic nervous system to counteract stress signs such as an elevated heart rate and a burst of adrenaline. “Everyone needs regular practices to notice when stress is taking hold and a (tool belt) of ways to deal with it. “Because the election hype has been so divisive, it can strain our relationships, especially with those who don’t share our viewpoints,” she said.

In her closing rally on the Ellipse last week, Kamala Harris scorned Donald J. Trump as an outlier who did not represent America. In fact, it turns out, that may be exactly who we are. With his comeback victory to reclaim the presidency, Mr. Trump has now established himself as a transformational force reshaping the United States in his own image. Populist disenchantment with the nation’s direction and resentment against elites proved to be deeper and more profound than many in both parties had recognized. Mr. Trump’s testosterone-driven campaign capitalized on resistance to electing the first woman president.

Dismissing Smith would allow the Department of Justice and Trump’s attorney general to move to drop the charges against him and end the court cases. In the DC case, Smith charged Trump over his efforts to overturn his election loss in 2020. In September, state and federal appeals courts in New York heard arguments for two of Trump’s civil appeals.

Tecoluca, El Salvador CNN —Sunlight pours into the cavernous building. Opened less than two years ago, it is already an iconic feature of the “new El Salvador” of President Nayib Bukele. The cells are meticulously clean — an intentional and stark contrast to the dingy and squalid prisons of El Salvador’s past. He even created his own clique, “Crazy Criminals,” now tattooed across his back, after he returned to El Salvador. Critics inside and outside El Salvador question the veracity of the government’s crime data and claimed success over the gangs.
