The film won nominations for best picture, best director and its stars Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan won nods for best performance by an actress and actor in a leading role. The nominations were announced by Allison Williams and Riz Ahmed on Tuesday morning at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater. Voting for the nominations concluded Jan. 17, and 9,579 members of the academy were eligible to vote, according to Variety. Neither women of color made it to the list for best leading actress. The Oscar nominations come just weeks after the Golden Globes returned to the airwaves.
"Everything Everywhere," a science-fiction flick about an exasperated Chinese immigrant struggling to finish her taxes, landed 11 nominations, including best picture and four acting nods. Other films in the hunt for the top trophy at the Academy Awards included sequel "Avatar: The Way of Water," James Cameron's visual spectacle that currently ranks as the sixth-highest grossing movie of all time. Last year's Academy Awards ceremony, when Will Smith slapped presenter Chris Rock before winning best actor, drew about 15.4 million TV viewers, the second-smallest audience ever. Apple TV+ (AAPL.O) nabbed best picture last year for heartwarming drama "CODA." This time, Disney received the most nominations, a total of 22, for movies including "Avatar," "Banshees" and animated "Turning Red."

This year's ceremony is sure to draw extra attention after Will Smith smacked Chris Rock during last year's show.

Cameron was joined - in omission - by another box-office standout, actor Tom Cruise, whose starring role in “Top Gun: Maverick” wowed audiences but was overlooked in the best actor category. Another notable snub from the best picture list was "Babylon," "La La Land" director Damien Chazelle's ambitious ode to old Hollywood. This year none of the nominees for best director are women. One of the most successful recording artists of the era, Taylor Swift, also was snubbed by the Academy.
REUTERS/Mario AnzuoniLOS ANGELES, Jan 24 (Reuters) - Hollywood's film academy will announce this year's Oscar nominees early on Tuesday, a field expected to range from biopic "Elvis" to dark comedy "The Banshees of Inisherin" and multiverse adventure "Everything Everywhere All at Once." The Oscars and other entertainment awards shows have been struggling to attract TV viewers, particularly younger ones who spend time on TikTok and YouTube. Last year's Academy Awards show, when Will Smith slapped presenter Chris Rock before winning best actor, drew about 15.4 million TV viewers, the second-smallest audience ever. The Gold Derby website, which monitors Hollywood's awards races, gives "Everything Everywhere" the best odds at the moment to ultimately win best picture. The movie stars Michelle Yeoh in a dimension-hopping action film about an exhausted woman trying to finish her taxes.
Some mourners held flowers as they waited for the service to begin under the tall trees on the lawn of Graceland, the home in Memphis where Lisa Marie lived as a child with her father. She was delicate, but was filled with life,” Priscilla Presley read. She then grew a family of her own.”After reading the poem, Priscilla Presley said: “Our heart is broken. After her father died, she became the sole heir of the Elvis Presley Trust, which — along with Elvis Presley Enterprises — managed Graceland and other assets until she sold her majority interest in 2005. A representative from Elvis Presley Enterprises has told The Associated Press that the mansion is in a trust that will go to the benefit of her children.

REUTERS/Maja SmiejkowskaLOS ANGELES, Jan 23 (Reuters) - “Blonde,” a biographical film that explores the exploitation of Marilyn Monroe, led this year's Razzie nominations with eight nods, including one for worst picture, while multiple Oscar winner Tom Hanks landed in the worst actor and worst supporting actor race. In their 43rd year, the Razzies deliver some tough love to movies, screenplays, directors and more with critical jabs meant to offer a humorous counterpoint to the Oscars. "Blonde" received a Razzie nomination for worst picture, two nominations for worst supporting actors, two for worst screen couples, as well as nods for worst remake, worst director and worst screenplay. Director Andrew Dominik and Netflix already have faced harsh judgment for what critics called a sexist and cruel depiction of Monroe, who was portrayed by Ana De Armas.

REUTERS/Andrew KellyLONDON, Jan 19 (Reuters) - A German remake of the anti-war classic "All Quiet On The Western Front" led nominations for the British Academy Film Awards on Thursday, overtaking other award season favourites with 14 nods. That film and Steven Spielberg's coming-of-age story "The Fabelmans" were the two big winners at the Golden Globes earlier this month, but the latter received just one BAFTA nod, for original screenplay. Baz Luhrmann's Elvis Presley biopic "Elvis" came in third with nine nominations, including best film and a leading actor recognition for Austin Butler. Drama "Tar", in which Cate Blanchett plays a gay conductor of a Berlin orchestra whose career comes tumbling down due to an abuse scandal, had five nods, including best film, director, original screenplay and leading actress.
Dustin Bingham loves to play music when he cooks. Recently, he asked one of his eight Amazon Echo smart speakers to play Michael Bublé while he prepared some pasta. Sure enough, sounds of the Canadian crooner filled the kitchen, courtesy of his Amazon Prime music account. But what was that next tune? Not Mr. Bublé, and not anything Mr. Bingham had ever heard before.
A screenshot of a social media post discussing COVID-19 vaccination is circulating alongside false suggestions it was authored by Lisa Marie Presley, daughter of the late Elvis, who died on Thursday. Lisa Marie Presley’s death prompted baseless assertions on social media that the event was linked to COVID-19 vaccination (here). The COVID-19 vaccines are free, even if you don’t have health insurance or aren’t a U.S. citizen,” the post says. These words were not published by Lisa Marie Presley, however, but by a blogger’s page named “Lisa Marie” (ibb.co/TkQBzF2). The screenshot circulating does not show a post from Lisa Marie Presley.

Lisa Marie Presley’s final resting place will be at Graceland, the Memphis, Tennessee, estate that her late father, Elvis Presley, called home. A rep for Lisa Marie Presley’s daughter, actor Riley Keough, confirmed to NBC News on Friday, that Presley will be buried next to her late son, Benjamin Keough, who died by apparent suicide in 2020. Lisa Marie Presley, who was the only child of Elvis Presley and Priscilla Presley, died Thursday at 54, after being hospitalized for a medical emergency. A singer-songwriter, Lisa Marie Presley was the mother of four children, from two of her four marriages: daughter Riley Keough and son Benjamin Keough, with ex-husband Danny Keough, and twin daughters Harper and Finley Lockwood with ex-husband Michael Lockwood. Following Keough’s death in 2020, Presley posted multiple tributes to her only son on social media.
