It was the team's first game since the Bills' safety, Damar Hamlin, collapsed and suffered cardiac arrest in the midst of a Monday night game against the Bengals in Cincinnati — and the team said its stunning success from the very start of the game was in Hamlin's honor. After Hines' second kickoff return for a touchdown occurred in the third quarter of the game, fans and teammates went wild. Trainers surrounded Hamlin and he received CPR for several minutes as the Bills knelt to pray on the field. "Thankful for everyone who has reached out and prayed," Hamlin tweeted. The NFL said Hamlin will receive his full $825,000 for 2022 despite landing on the injured reserve list.
Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin, who is continuing to recover from cardiac arrest, thanked fans Saturday in his first public statement since he collapsed and asked them to keep their prayers coming. ... Buffalo players plan to wear jersey patches with Hamlin's number, 3, to express support for his recovery, according to the NFL. For pregame warmups, Bills players planned to wear t-shirts emblazoned with the statement, "Love for Damar 3," the league said.
A potential cause of Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin's jarring collapse and cardiac arrest — witnessed in real time by millions of viewers watching "Monday Night Football" — was immediately recognized by heart experts who also happened to be watching the game. In a statement, the Buffalo Bills has only said that Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest, when the heart stops beating properly, and is now in critical condition. While there are several potential causes for Hamlin's cardiac arrest, cardiologists suggested that a rare phenomenon called "commotio cordis" was to blame. It is in this exact moment, experts say, that a blow to the chest in the exact right place can launch an otherwise healthy person into cardiac arrest. But there are several other reasons a person may go into cardiac arrest.
Eating right could improve men's fertility. The Office / NBCA 2017 study suggest a Mediterranean diet — which includes whole grains, fruits, vegetables, beans, herbs, spices, nuts and healthy fats such as olive oil — is associated with an increased sperm count. Meanwhile, a number of studies have found that obese men tend to have fewer, more abnormal sperm.

DUBAI, Jan 1 (Reuters) - Iranian police briefly detained several unidentified top-tier football players in a raid on a party on New Year's Eve where alcohol was served in violation of an Islamic ban, Iranian media reported. Mingling between sexes outside marriage and drinking alcohol are banned under Iran's Islamic laws. The semi-official news agency Tasnim said several current players and former members of an unidentified top Tehran soccer club had been detained at the party east of the capital. "Some of the players were in an abnormal state due to alcohol consumption," Tasnim reported, without giving further details. The YJC news agency said the gathering was a birthday party, and added that all those detained had been released except one person, who is not a soccer player.
The ARK Innovation Fund has lost around 67% year to date, more than tripling the decline of the S&P 500 index (.SPX). Wood's fund ranked 3,544 among all 3552 actively-managed U.S. equity mutual funds tracked by Morningstar. The worst performing fund of the year, by comparison, was the Voya Russia fund, which is down 92% for the year to date. “Have you heard of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome?” the podiatrist asked me. There are 13 types of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS), according to research and advocacy organization The Ehlers-Danlos Society. Drag queen Yvie Oddly, who has hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, crab walks down the pink carpet at RuPaul's DragCon LA in 2019. But despite her career choice, Bluestein only received her hEDS diagnosis when she was 47 – more than 30 years later.
An AI bot took the exam radiologists in the UK have to pass before finishing training. The AI candidate passed two of 10 mock exams, while humans passed four of 10. The AI candidate was a Smarturgences tool developed by French AI company Milvue that is commercially available. The AI candidate needs more training analyzing areas that are considered 'non-interpretable' like the abdomen and axial skeleton. While the AI candidate had "relatively high" accuracy, it was only the highest scoring candidate for one of the mock exams.
Mortgage rates have run up so far and so fast this year that many would-be homebuyers can no longer afford to buy a home. By fall, mortgage rates had more than doubled, eventually topping 7% in October. When Treasury yields go up, so do mortgage rates; when they go down, mortgage rates tend to follow. “We have to remember mortgage rates come down much slower than they go up,” said Cohn. “Volatility increases the level of mortgage rates, compared to Treasury rates, because of the prepayment option,” said Chester Spatt, professor of finance at Carnegie Mellon University’s Tepper School of Business.
From spodumene ore through lithium carbonate to lithium hydroxide, prices have more than doubled again this year after an explosive rally in 2021. Even Goldman Sachs, which outraged lithium bulls with a bearish market call in May, now thinks global supply will fall 84,000 tonnes short of demand this year. New EVs rolling off the automotive production line are the end of the lithium supply chain, but the chain itself is also expanding fast. All of them need raw materials, so their collective stock-building accentuates the rising EV demand curve. Moreover, much of lithium's supply growth is coming from new sources such as China's lepidolite deposits which come with their own new disruption potential.
Ellis Hobbs began trading stocks from his mobile phone in 2016. During this time, he heard about trading stocks from a colleague he had been doing business with, he said. It prompted him to apply to Sykes' Millionaire Challenge, an online educational and training course that helps beginners learn to day trade. That same year, he started trying to trade stocks from his mobile phone. He deposited enoughcash into his brokerage account to meet the pattern-day-trader rule, which requires a minimum $25,000 deposit to day trade.
While 95.3% of those fake accounts were stopped at registration by automated defenses, according to the company, there was a nearly 28% increase in fake accounts caught compared to the previous six-month period. For these reasons it can serve the purposes of bad actors to have fake LinkedIn profiles, Khan said. "Bad actors are trying to craft fake identities and make them look real by leaving a plausible-looking digital footprint across different platforms," Khan said. The challenge for LinkedIn users is that profiles on social media platforms are easy to create and are typically not verified in any way. The model helps increase the effectiveness of LinkedIn's automated anti-abuse defenses to help detect and remove fake accounts before they can reach members.
Celine Dion revealed on Thursday that she has a rare medical condition that has forced her to postpone dates on her European tour next year. “As you know, I’ve always been an open book and I wasn’t ready to say anything before, but I’m ready now. “Recently, I’ve been diagnosed with a very rare neurological disorder called the stiff-person syndrome, which affects something like one in a million people. I love you guys so much and I really hope I can see you again real soon.”Dion had canceled North American tour dates in January and European dates in April due to health issues. Stiff-person syndrome, or SPS, is a rare neurological disorder with some features of an autoimmune disease, according to the National Institutes of Health.
Following the news that actor Kirstie Alley died of colon cancer at age 71, several doctors and cancer specialists urged people to get the recommended screenings for the disease. Alley's manager confirmed to NBC News on Tuesday that the actor died of colon cancer. Colorectal cancer is the fourth-most common form of cancer in the U.S. and the second-most deadly behind lung cancer. The National Cancer Institute estimates that around 151,000 cases of colorectal cancer will be diagnosed this year. Colon cancer can be difficult to diagnose, however, since symptoms can resemble those of other conditions like hemorrhoids or irritable bowel syndrome.
KYIV, Dec 1 (Reuters) - Ukraine's military said on Thursday it had found fragments of Russian-fired nuclear-capable missiles with dud warheads in west Ukraine, and that their apparent purpose was to distract air defences. It is primarily intended to carry nuclear warheads and to be launched from bomber aircraft. Danyliuk said the missiles were fitted with non-explosive warheads, one of which was exhibited on the stage of the briefing centre in Kyiv where he was speaking. "This is evidenced by... the impact of a Kh-55 missile into a residential building," he said. Danyliuk also said that all the Kh-55 missiles that had been discovered had their serial numbers scratched out.

VATICAN CITY, Nov 30 (Reuters) - The official Vatican website was taken offline on Wednesday following an apparent hacking attack, the Holy See said. "Technical investigations are ongoing due to abnormal attempts to access the site," Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni said, without giving any further information. The suspected hack came a day after Moscow criticised Pope Francis's latest condemnation of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. In an interview with a Jesuit magazine, the pope had singled out troops from Chechnya and other ethnic minorities in Russia for their particular "cruelty" during the war. Siegler is a cognitive “SuperAger,” possessing a brain as sharp as people 20 to 30 years younger. She is part of an elite group enrolled in the Northwestern SuperAging Research Program, which has been studying the elderly with superior memories for 14 years. Once accepted, colorful 3D scans are taken of the brain and cognitive testing and brain scans are repeated every year or so. A SuperAger’s brain, usually donated to the research program by participants after death, also has bigger, healthier cells in the entorhinal cortex. SuperAger brains had three times fewer tau tangles, or abnormal formations of protein within nerve cells, than the brains of cognitively healthy controls, the study also found.
Crypto lender Genesis subject of probe by regulators - Barron's

Nov 25 (Reuters) - State securities regulators are investigating Genesis Global Capital as part of a wide-ranging inquiry into the interconnectedness of crypto firms, Barron's reported on Friday citing a comment from the Alabama Securities Commission Director. While it does not directly serve individual investors, Genesis backs products offered by crypto companies such as Circle Internet Financial, the principal operator of one of the largest stablecoins, USD Coin, and by Gemini. Genesis and Alabama Securities Commission did not immediately respond to Reuters' requests for comment on the report. In the aftermath of the collapse of crypto exchange FTX, Genesis suspended customer redemptions in a spillover effect citing "abnormal withdrawal requests" that exceeded its liquidity. Several crypto firms have been plagued by contagion concern from the fallout of the FTX collapse, with many counting their exposure in millions to the beleaguered exchange.
New York CNN Business —The full extent of FTX’s financial disarray is becoming clearer as the failed crypto exchange’s new management combs for cash as part of the bankruptcy process. FTX, formerly one of the most trusted brands in crypto, filed for bankruptcy earlier this month. The updated figure underscores what FTX’s new chief executive described last week as a total lack of centralized cash controls under the management of Bankman-Fried. The report cited unnamed sources; Genesis didn’t immediately respond to CNN Business’ request for comment. When asked for comment, a BlockFi representative referred CNN Business to the company’s previous statement on its blog, reiterating that there were “a number of scenarios” under consideration.
And some members of the general public, too, are squeamish about cell-cultured meat. Caution isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but these critiques of cell-cultured meat are just thinly disguised neophobia — people just feel it is “unnatural.” Cell-cultured meat indeed comes from labs, not farms. To no one’s surprise, cell-cultured meat also faces criticism from some animal rights activists, albeit for a very different reason: because cell cultivation requires starter cells taken from actual animals, cell-cultured meat isn’t completely cruelty-free. And with time, cell-cultured meat may become nutritionally superior to meat from slaughtered animals anyway. No, cell-cultured meat, as we currently know it, isn’t perfect.
The Food and Drug Administration on Thursday approved the first drug to delay the onset of Type 1 diabetes. It’s been approved for people ages 8 and older who have early signs of Type 1 diabetes. Nearly 2 million people in the United States have Type 1 diabetes, according to the American Diabetes Association. People with Type 1 diabetes usually need multiple injections of insulin every day for the rest of their lives, often a great financial burden. The most common side effects of the medication include decreased levels of certain white blood cells, rash and headache, according to the FDA.
Alibaba broke tradition by not releasing total sales for its Singles' Day shopping festival this year. BEIJING — China's Covid controls disrupted Alibaba 's ability to deliver packages, the company said, dragging down the e-commerce giant's sales in a competitive market. Disruptions affected nearly 15% of delivery areas in China starting in October and through the 11.11 shopping festival campaign period, he said. This year, Alibaba declined for the first time to share total gross merchandise value — an industry measure of sales over time — for its flagship Singles Day shopping festival that ended Nov. 11. Rival JD.com did not share GMV for its Singles Day promotional period this year, which ran from the evening of Oct. 31 to the end of day on Nov. 11.
CNN —Over the past 50 years, human sperm counts appear to have fallen by more than 50% around the globe, according to an updated review of medical literature. The review, and its conclusions, have sparked a debate among experts in male fertility. Overall, the researchers determined that sperm counts fell by sightly more than 1% per year between 1973 and 2018. Normal sperm counts are considered to be over 40 million per milliliter. In other research, Levine says, he and others have teased out some factors that are associated with lower sperm counts.
