There was Chase Elliott, one of his best friends, who won the 2020 Cup title and is NASCAR’s five-time reigning most popular driver. And what of William Byron, who only needed half the time to pass Blaney in career wins? Then he scored his second win of the season in the round of 12 of the playoffs at Talladega Superspeedway to earn an automatic berth into the round of eight. I think that’s the biggest thing that’s helped me out this year,” Blaney said. Rushbrook loves Blaney's chances come Sunday to give Ford a second consecutive Cup title.

That’s when police say Card was committed to a mental health facility for two weeks after acting erratically and “hearing voices and threats to shoot up” a military base. State Police troopers took Card, a sergeant 1st class, to the Keller Army Community Hospital at West Point for what would be two weeks of mental health evaluation. What New York State Police did about Card’s threats is unclear. “Just because there appears to be a mental health nexus to this scenario, the vast majority of people with mental health diagnosis will never hurt anybody,” Sauschuck said. She said someone dropped the ball because Card’s threats and medical evaluation should have triggered a yellow flag seizure of his guns when he returned home.

Ukraine has received all 31 of the formidable M1A1 Abrams tanks promised by the US. Ukraine will have to be careful with how it employs the Abrams, especially as the counteroffensive likely slows in coming months. But don't expect to see many showdowns with Russian tanks. All three are undefeated to start the NHL season, making some history in the process. It's the first time the league has had three teams open a season with at least six wins in a row. The Golden Knights scored twice in the final eight minutes of regulation Tuesday, rallying from down 2-1 to beat Philadelphia. “We’ve got talent, for one,” coach Bruce Cassidy said, when asked about the undefeated start. Colorado went into the season as the favorite to win the Stanley Cup, and Georgiev's play is a good early indicator of those chances.

NEW YORK (AP) — The yield on the 10-year Treasury has reached 5% for the first time since 2007. Monday morning, the yield on the 10-year Treasury was at 4.96% after hitting 5.02% earlier. Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said Thursday that many other factors could be contributing to the swift rise in the 10-year Treasury yield. The rise in the 10-year Treasury yield most directly means the U.S. government has to pay more to borrow money for 10 years. But because the 10-year yield is the reference point for financial markets, it also quickly filters out into all kinds of loans.

Before the court action, Alabama – which is 27% Black – had only one Black-majority congressional district out of seven seats. The case is expected to land before the all-Republican state Supreme Court, where DeSantis appointees hold most seats. A separate federal case in Georgia challenges the congressional map on constitutional grounds and is slated to go to trial next month. UtahThe state Supreme Court, in a case it heard in July, is considering whether it even has the authority to weigh in on map-drawing decisions by the GOP-controlled state legislature. Advocacy groups and a handful of voters are challenging a congressional map that further carved up Democratic-leaning Salt Lake County between four decidedly Republican districts.

For the first time in a long time, tech workers are in a funk. This rare combination of generous compensation and a reasonable work-life balance kept tech workers happier than employees in other industries. Economy wide, there were on average 6.6 front-line workers per manager in 2018 and 2019, but post-pandemic, the ratio dropped to 6 to 1. It's possible that as tech companies have grown into more complex organizations, more management layers are necessary. Fundamentally, it's about listening to and elevating the voices of front-line employees.

The United States Supreme Court building is seen as in Washington, U.S., October 4, 2023. In this case, the state legislature was accused of racial gerrymandering to reduce the influence of Black voters. The Republican legislators and other state officials who appealed to the Supreme Court told the justices that the map was designed to secure partisan advantages, a practice that the Supreme Court in 2019 decided was not reviewable by federal courts - unlike racial gerrymandering, which remains illegal. The new map increased the district's share of white voters while reducing its share of Black voters, which the lower court referred to as "bleaching."
