CNN —Beyoncé will appear alongside Vice President Kamala Harris at a rally Friday in Houston, a person familiar with the planning tells CNN, the first joint appearance with the music icon whose anthem has been the soundtrack of the Harris campaign. The appearance, in which Beyoncé will appear with Willie Nelson, is designed to be one of the biggest closing acts of the campaign. Beyoncé all but gave her endorsement to Harris months ago, giving her permission to use her song “Freedom” as her official campaign anthem, CNN first reported in July. At one point, rumors of Beyoncé appearing at the Democratic convention threatened to overtake Harris’ acceptance speech. During her remarks, the vice president is expected to warn of the threat a second Trump term poses to women’s reproductive freedom.

A person close to the campaign said that at this moment, having Clinton on the campaign trail might not be the most helpful move, since it needed to focus on its core messages. Clinton is expected to do at least one event for the Harris campaign in the final week of the election, according to two people familiar with the planning, though an event has not been announced. It is unclear if Clinton will appear alongside the vice president on the campaign trail. A Harris campaign official said Clinton will campaign for the vice president in the final stretch of the race. “Hillary Clinton said, ‘I’m With Her,’ and they were not,” the Harris aide said of voters.

Vice President Kamala Harris told Telemundo on Tuesday that she is a “pragmatic capitalist” who wants to support Latino entrepreneurs, countering former President Donald Trump's attempts to portray her as a Marxist. I am a pragmatic capitalist,” Harris said in the interview at the vice president’s official residence in the Naval Observatory in Washington. Harris also made a direct appeal to Latino men's wallets. “I am very aware how it would affect Latino men,” she said of her economic agenda. “I know that Latino men often have a more difficult time having access to the big loans from the big banks because of relationships, because of things that are not necessarily grounded in their qualifications.

Here are six takeaways from Harris’ CNN town hall:Yes, Harris thinks Trump is a fascistHarris was asked Wednesday night if she considers Trump a fascist. “My administration will not be a continuation of the Biden administration,” Harris said. “There was a lot that was done (during the Biden administration), but there’s more to do,” Harris said. The vice president touted her work cracking down on hate crimes and called for new laws to deter future attacks. On Wednesday night, the vice president reprised that appeal – both in what she said and how she said it.

New York CNN —Lawyers for CBS News are rebuffing a legal threat from Donald Trump over the network’s “60 Minutes” interview with Kamala Harris, telling the former president his demands are based on a “faulty premise.”In a blunt letter to Trump’s legal counsel, the network on Wednesday said the First Amendment “fiercely protects” the editorial judgments made by “60 Minutes,” the network’s flagship newsmagazine. “For that reason,” CBS said, Trump has no legal basis to sue, “and I note that you do not identify one,” the letter from CBS News senior Vice President for legal affairs Gayle C. Sproul stated. When Trump backed out of a planned interview with “60 Minutes,” CBS went ahead with its plans to interview Harris and produced a Trump-less prime time special on October 7. “Editing is a necessity for all broadcasters to enable them to present the news in the time available, and that is what ’60 Minutes’ did here, as it does with its other reports,” she wrote. Trump has brought up “60 Minutes” on the campaign trail at least a dozen times in the past two weeks and has repeatedly asserted that CBS should lose its broadcast license.

CNN —Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell delivered a scathing assessment of the modern Republican Party in an upcoming biography, saying the “MAGA movement is completely wrong” and that Ronald Reagan “wouldn’t recognize” the party today. The Republican leader eventually voted to acquit Trump during the second impeachment trial, focused on the former president’s involvement in the January 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol. However, Tackett reports that McConnell had leaned towards voting to convict at certain points. KAZAN, Russia — Almost 700 miles east of Russia's war in Ukraine, the city of Kazan is a safe enough distance for President Vladimir Putin to try and reposition himself as an international ambassador. CNN —Republican women can vote for Kamala Harris — and they don’t need to tell anyone about it. Such voters need to be approached gently since she’s asking dissident Republican voters to shelve some of their most cherished political positions. A New York Times/Siena College poll this month showed Harris leading women voters by 56% to 40% over Trump. New York CNN —An influx of Yelp reviews – many of them bogus – of a Pennsylvania McDonald’s that former President Donald Trump visited Sunday, led the review platform to temporarily freeze the franchise’s Yelp page. Some users on Yelp blamed the McDonald’s franchise for allowing Trump to host a campaign event there. McDonald’s was thrust into the political spotlight Sunday when Trump served fries at a Feasterville-Trevose, Pennsylvania, location, even though the chain attempted to distance itself from the stunt. Yelp will flag and temporarily disable reviews on businesses that have received increased public attention. On Sunday, McDonald’s said in an internal memo to employees obtained by CNN that it did not invite Trump.

Japanese American leaders slammed former President Donald Trump after he compared Jan. 6 rioters to those of Japanese descent who were incarcerated during World War II just because of their race. “Nobody’s ever — maybe the Japanese during the Second World War, frankly. But you know, they were held too.”Several Japanese American leaders condemned Trump’s comments, with Ann Burroughs, president and CEO of the Japanese American National Museum, calling them an “egregiously inaccurate and flawed historical analogy.”“Now more than ever, the lessons from the Japanese American incarceration must never be forgotten, ignored, minimized, or erased,” she said in a statement on the museum’s website. One officer, who was sprayed with chemicals during the event, died a day later due to natural causes. Decades later, after a critical “Redress Movement,” Congress passed the Civil Liberties Act of 1988 that provided monetary reparations and an apology to the Japanese American survivors.

Vice President Kamala Harris and top Democrats are seizing on the Republican nominee’s bizarre antics to inject new urgency and a sharper focus into her campaign. Democrats are suggesting that he is “unstable” and showing cognitive decline, using the same critique he once used against President Joe Biden. The Harris campaign, for example, immediately highlighted the 78-year-old Trump saying on Sunday that he’s “not that close to 80” when calling for cognitive tests. His alarming behavior may look to some like a candidacy melting down when the pressure is at its most extreme. With polls deadlocked, Trump’s behavior hasn’t yet disqualified him.

PHOENIX — Billionaire entrepreneur Mark Cuban said Saturday while campaigning for Vice President Kamala Harris that he would campaign against her if he thought she would tax wealthy people’s “unrealized gains,” which is part of the tax plan she has endorsed. The comments came at a town hall event attended by local Arizona entrepreneurs, which Cuban headlined as a surrogate for the Harris-Walz campaign. Toward the end of the event, a man asked Cuban, “Quick question: What about unrealized gains?”Cuban assured the audience that Harris wouldn’t tax unrealized gains. That is true: While Harris’ campaign issued a blanket endorsement of Biden’s 2025 budget proposal, it hasn’t actually spoken specifically about taxing unrealized gains. On Oct. 12, the Harris-Walz campaign deployed famous actor Bryan Cranston to stump in Arizona.

WASHINGTON — With just two weeks left in the 2024 campaign, there currently are no plans for Vice President Kamala Harris to appear on the trail with President Joe Biden before Election Day, according to three Harris campaign officials and three White House officials. Biden last appeared with Harris at a campaign event nearly seven weeks ago, on Labor Day in early September. That’s a contrast to former President Obama, who has headlined a series of Harris campaign events, and former President Bill Clinton who has also been on the trail for the vice president. First lady Jill Biden has headlined multiple events for the Harris campaign as well and is set to hit the trail for her again on Wednesday in Nevada. White House and campaign officials say the president understands the strategy behind his downsized role in the campaign, even if at times he doesn’t like it.

CNN —Vice President Kamala Harris turns 60 on Sunday – and, her campaign wants voters to know, that makes her 18 years younger than Donald Trump. Harris’ campaign is increasingly questioning the former president’s mental and physical fitness in the final weeks of the 2024 presidential race. “He’s becoming increasingly unstable and unhinged, and it requires that response,” Harris told reporters Saturday in Detroit. Top Harris allies have also leaned into the strategy of casting Trump as old and mentally unfit in recent days. “He’s talking about Hannibal Lecter, he’s talking about this, he’s talking about that.”Trump, at times, seems to tie migrants who seek asylum in the United States to the character of Lecter being detained at an insane asylum.

CNN —Almost two weeks to Election Day, I feel more uncertain about this year’s result than any election I’ve covered professionally. Many Republicans are hoping that the close polling points to a blowout win for Trump next month. If we had a polling miss like two years ago, Harris would probably win over 300 electoral votes. Jonathan Drake/ReutersYou might be tempted to guess the direction of a potential polling miss by the macro trends. Ironically, only 24% of those undecided voters agree that this election is the most important of their lifetime.
