At first it seemed impossible to imagine: No more red carpets! No more photos of movie stars and names to watch in fabulous gowns blanketing the internet. Could “Oppenheimer” and “Barbie” be the last gasp of that marketing Valhalla of fashion and film that was the modern premiere — at least for the foreseeable future? That means film festivals with all their associated dressing and posing opportunities. Actors sign contracts that can be worth millions, negotiated by agents and managers, to be brand ambassadors, appearing in some combination of advertisements, front rows, store openings and red carpets, dressed by stylists, generating coverage, desire and, most of all, publicity for everyone involved.

Gainsbourg went on to write “Je t’aime… moi non plus” for Birkin and the song became an international hit that same year. SMALL MANUFACTURERS APLENTYItaly is home to thousands of small manufacturers that cover 50-55% of the global production of luxury clothing and leather goods, consultancy Bain calculates. LVMH announced in May it had taken a majority stake in Nuti Ivo Group, an Italian company that has specialised in making leather products since 1955. Kering managing director Jean-Francois Palus said the luxury group is increasingly looking to bring production in house. "Italy has not created a (major) luxury hub, but we have entrepreneurs who have the ability to activate the right relationships at the right time," said Stefania Lazzaroni, general manager at Italian luxury industry association Altagamma. "Italian groups are now more managerialised, more organised and also stronger, which makes them more open to thinking together," he said.

Medvedev weathers Eubanks storm to reach semis

Medvedev clung on stubbornly, however, and as the fire in the Eubanks racket began to fade he took charge to reach the semi-finals at the grasscourt slam for the first time. Eubanks used his sledgehammer forehand to break the Medvedev serve to lead 3-1 in the second set -- beaming broadly and imploring the crowd for more noise. Medvedev looked bewildered and out of ideas as Eubanks kept swinging for the hills, landing blow after blow. Medvedev looked close to boiling point as he whacked a ball dangerously close to the fans, argued with umpire Damien Dumusois and received a warning. Eubanks cut a dejected figure in the deciding set as his dream faded away and the end came quickly.

US commercial real-estate values aren't likely to recover until 2040, according to Capital Economics' deputy chief property economist. Kiran Raichura said office values are unlikely to rebound to their peaks until 2040 thanks to the strengthening work-from-home trend, and high interest rates. The commercial real estate (CRE) industry has been under stress since the US regional-banking sector faced a bout of turmoil earlier this year. Columbia Business School professor Stijn Van Nieuwerburgh recently warned that the pain is just beginning for commercial real estate – and tumbling prices could fire up the banking crisis again and hurt the US economy. Furthermore, rising distressed commercial real-estate assets is adding to concerns a crisis may be brewing in the sector.

The return of perms
  + stars: | 2023-06-30 | by ( Yola Mzizi | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +4 min
Perms, or the permanent wave, have been a fixture of American culture since the late 19th century and reached peak popularity in the 1970s and 1980s. While beauty trends, like fashion, are cyclical, perms today differ greatly from those once seen on stars like Cher and Stevie Nicks, thanks to gentler products and digitized heat technology. Digital perms, or hot perms, have also become popular. “It certainly helps that K-Pop and K-Dramas are popular and the stars get perms, so that has made it more culturally acceptable,” said Chen. Wella’s Munz is hopeful the resurgence of perms will also encourage brands to further engage with the multicultural consumer.

There is a dedicated Instagram account on which the costume designers Molly Rogers and Danny Santiago share their finds, with 277,000 followers. Is the era of quiet luxury, so recently embraced by TikTok, already at an end? Has the physics of fashion exerted its force and produced an equal and opposite reaction to an earlier action? We Are Beauty; We Are Dignity

I am tattooed with stories of my family and of Catholicism, which keep me grounded in every moment. Most important, we are both the communities that raised us and the communities that we have fostered. We cannot, however, separate our sense of self and its presentation from where we came from or where we are now. Fashion is perception, and perception comes from our experiences. As a storyteller using fashion as my medium, I define modern beauty as resistance, resilience and hope by incorporating my past and present into my designs.

Indeed, if there’s one attribute shared by New York and Paris it’s rats. The mayor of Paris is forming a committee to look into the cohabitation of the city's citizens with its notorious population of rats. Thomas Samson/AFP/Getty ImagesNot surprisingly, there are some who believe ridding the city of rats with traps and rat poison is utterly inhumane. In contrast, Boulard with his anti-rat vengeance, sounds more like the mayor of New York than the mayor of Paris. Of course, Paris has a far longer history than New York with rats.
