London CNN —A medallion containing some of the original mold involved in the discovery of penicillin is expected to fetch up to $50,000 when it goes up for auction later this month. The mold medallion will be auctioned by Bonhams later this month. Bonhams“The cultures were contaminated by an airborne mold and before disposing of the cultures, he noticed that the mold had prevented normal growth by the staph,” it adds. It is expected to fetch $30,000-$50,000 in an online auction that runs from October 13 to 23. Tokyo AP —An unexploded American bomb from World War II that had been buried at a Japanese airport exploded Wednesday, causing a large crater in a taxiway and the cancellation of more than 80 flights but no injuries, Japanese officials said. Land and Transport Ministry officials said there were no aircraft nearby when the bomb exploded at Miyazaki Airport in southwestern Japan. Videos broadcast on Japanese television showed a crater in the taxiway reportedly about 7 meters (23 feet) in diameter and 1 meter (3 feet) deep. A number of unexploded bombs dropped by the US military during World War II have been unearthed in the area, Defense Ministry officials said. Hundreds of tons of unexploded bombs from the war remain buried around Japan and are sometimes dug up at construction sites.

London CNN —Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has controversially broken royal protocol and claimed in his upcoming memoir that Queen Elizabeth II was suffering from bone cancer before her death. Johnson isn’t the first prime minister to reminisce about his life, time in office and interactions with the late Queen in an autobiography. Buckingham Palace has a policy not to comment on books released about the royal family and as such has not confirmed or denied Johnson’s assertions. Johnson, who served as prime minister between 2019 and 2022, recalls traveling to the royal residence of Balmoral for the customary outgoing audience and resignation. What’s more surprising, however, is that one House Democratic just introduced a bill to codify Trump’s 10% across-the-board tariffs, revealing how the long-dormant trade policy splits both parties. New Delhi CNN —India has confirmed its first case of a deadlier strain of mpox, which has raised alarm among health officials around the world over the rapid pace of its spread. On Wednesday, the state’s Health Minister Veena George hailed Kerala’s “robust health care system” for detecting the case. The strain has since been detected in several countries outside Africa, including Sweden and Thailand. Mpox, formerly known as monkeypox, is a viral disease that can spread easily between people and from infected animals.
