Despite that, P & G had a spotty quarter, which could give fuel to investors worried that a deterioration in the consumer would make its guidance harder to achieve. Nevertheless, P & G still fills an important role in a diversified portfolio, and its business is on solid footing. That includes North America, where organic sales grew 4%, and Europe, where organic sales increased 2% despite a difficult 12% comparison in the year-ago period. That helps explain how you get organic sales in China down 9%, albeit a slight sequential improvement from the 10% drop in the third quarter. It saw a mid-single digit decrease in organic sales because of market-share losses for its Luvs diapers.

At a time when China's economy is facing headwinds, and growth has been slowing, where are the Chinese ultra-rich, whose numbers are expected to swell to 144,897 by 2028 from 98,551 in 2023, parking their wealth? However, the country's high-end property market remains a favored asset. Luxury real estate"There has been a noticeable increase in transactions within Shanghai's luxury real estate sector," said James Macdonald, head of China research at global real estate firm Savills, attributing it to a recent policy easing by the government. That said, China's luxury real estate market is still primarily concentrated in the core areas of first-tier cities, said Li. Other local investment classes, such as the wider property market and China-listed stocks are not as popular among the ultra rich, experts told CNBC.

It could also have a major impact on House and Senate races. We talked by email about the state of play for the House and Senate and how the shake-up in the presidential race might change things. PATHE: House races are typically more nationalized than Senate races because the candidates are lesser known; therefore, it’s harder for them to separate themselves from their party and the top of the ticket. Read previewNearly two weeks after former President Donald Trump selected JD Vance to be his running mate, it's safe to say the Ohio senator is struggling. His polling is the worst of any non-incumbent vice presidential nominee in decades. Related storiesThat lack of familiarity is a key reason that the memes about Vance having sex with a couch have taken off. By Thursday, social media was awash with memes riffing on the notion that Trump's vice presidential nominee had once fornicated with a couch. In Vance's case, the meme seems to be an ironic stand-in for other issues that voters may have with the Ohio senator, even if they know he probably didn't have sex with a couch.

Despite those headwinds, some indicators show the housing market is shifting away from a seller's market. That doesn't mean it's a buyer's market — yet: "The term buyer's market is always a bit tricky to work with," said Chen Zhao, the economic research lead at Redfin, an online real estate brokerage firm. There are "rules of thumb" to define a buyer's market, like having more than four months of supply, she said. "We're still nationwide somewhat in a seller's market, not a buyer's market yet," he said. Here are four signs that can help you recognize if the housing market in your area is more in buyers' favor: 1.

Former President Donald J. Trump, who for months has urged Israel to end the war in the Gaza Strip as quickly as possible, said that he and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel remained on good terms after the two met on Friday, and that he would be a stronger ally of Israel than Vice President Kamala Harris. Mr. Netanyahu and Mr. Trump, who met in Palm Beach, Fla., were close allies during Mr. Trump’s presidency, but their ties became strained after the 2020 election. Even so, Mr. Netanyahu faces growing international criticism and pressure over Israel’s war effort, and his trip to shore up support fought against strong headwinds. Mr. Trump, in a Fox News interview on Thursday, said of the war in Gaza: “It can’t continue to go on like this. It’s too much.” Ms. Harris and President Biden met with Mr. Netanyahu on Thursday, and pressed, as they have for months, for a cease-fire that would provide for the release of hostages held by Hamas.

Separate data on spending shows that American shoppers are still shopping. That measure strengthened in the second quarter, rising to a 2.9% rate compared to 2.6% seen earlier this year. Imax is due for a rally as Hollywood continues getting back on track after last year's strikes, according to Seaport Research Partners. Analyst David Joyce initiated coverage of the stock, known for its large movie screens, at a buy rating. Joyce's $23 price target implies the stock can rally 30% from Tuesday's closing level. Joyce called Imax a small-cap way to play the normalization of the film industry after joint strikes from writers and actors last year stalled production and delayed some releases. The analyst also believes the stock is not trading like an "experience economy" play despite fitting the mold.

According to the New York Federal Reserve, which uses the 10-year/three-month curve, a recession should happen about 12 months later. The inversion is not aloneMaking the situation even more complicated is that the yield curve isn't the only indicator showing reason for caution about how long the post-Covid recovery can last. But the rate dynamics have helped companies escape what usually happens in an inverted curve. With an inverted curve hitting their net interest margins, banks may opt to lend less, causing a pullback in consumer spending that can lead to recession. This could provide something of a self-fulfilling prophecy for the yield curve.

Labor unions, maritime shipping interests and other supply chain businesses have formed a new trade group to push for more domestic infrastructure investment to safeguard the supply chain. "We are bringing the links of the supply chain together," said Josh Wood, CEO of the Supply Chain Council. "We will be championing legislation to strengthen supply chain resiliency and jobs." Wood said that before Covid, supply chain segments were most often viewed independently, and the need to focus on interconnectedness of freight segments has continued to increased with the supply chain experiencing major headwinds. One of the contentious aspects of a strong supply chain is the introduction of automation.
