The Oct. 5 strike was the deadliest attack in Ukraine this year, and one of the worst since Russia invaded in February 2022. The SBU said the men fled to Russia shortly before Ukraine regained control of the village in September last year. After this, the agency said the men continued to work for Russia by building a network of informants in Ukraine. When Reuters visited the village last Friday, two residents said that SBU officials had visited the village and checked residents' phones after the attack.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The latest search for the remains of victims of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre has ended with 59 graves found and seven sets of remains exhumed, according to Oklahoma state archaeologist Kary Stackelbeck. The excavation ended Friday, Stackelbeck said, and 57 of the 59 graves were unmarked and previously unknown. None of the remains found thus far have been confirmed as victims of the massacre. ☆ Why more women are choosing to be child-free

Demographers point to a number of factors driving this phenomenon: economic insecurity, political uncertainty, shifting gender norms and a lessening stigma around the choice to remain child-free. In the past, women who could have been inclined to remain child-free might have given birth anyway because that is what society expected from them. Even so, women who choose to remain child-free say they still feel like they constantly have to explain their choices to others. Women who opt to remain child-free say they still experience judgment for their choices. The assumption that child-free women don’t care about children simply isn’t true either, some say.

In the past few months alone, researchers have linked Neanderthal DNA to a serious hand disease, the shape of people's noses and various other human traits. Research shows some African populations have almost no Neanderthal DNA, while those from European or Asian backgrounds have 1% to 2%. For example, Neanderthal DNA has been linked to auto-immune diseases like Graves’ disease and rheumatoid arthritis. The list goes on: Research has linked Neanderthal genetic variants to skin and hair color, behavioral traits, skull shape and Type 2 diabetes. Researchers found the skulls of domesticated dogs in Homo sapiens sites much further back in time than anyone had found before.

CNN —House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said Saturday he still lacks support from a handful of GOP hardliners to put a Republican stopgap measure on the floor next week, making a government shutdown likely with just one week until the deadline. There are still a few members that won’t vote for funding the government while we finish all the 12 bills. When pressed on whether Americans should expect a government shutdown, McCarthy insisted there is still time. That would give House Republicans a position from which to begin negotiations with the Senate. “I think now some members feeling the pressure of the time line coming up,” McCarthy said.

The House Rules Committee held a rare Saturday session to begin setting up the process for next week's voting. Then, with time running short, the House would turn toward a stopgap measure to keep government open for about a month while work continues. They are insisting on the lower spending levels McCarthy promised the Republican hardliners in January during his own race to become House speaker. And once those House bills are approved, often in round-the-clock voting, they still would go for negotiations with the Senate, which has its own legislation. But if McCarthy joins with Democrats, he will almost certainly face a vote from Gaetz and others for his ouster.
