However, with a sticker price of nearly $80,000 per year, including tuition, fees, and room and board, Montiel-García, like many college hopefuls, needed financial aid to bring the cost down. Because of problems with the new form, financial aid award letters were delayed and some high school seniors, like Montiel-García, had trouble applying for any aid at all. In previous years, financial aid award letters were sent out at about the same time as admission letters, meaning students had several weeks to compare offers ahead of National College Decision Day, the deadline for most admitted students to decide on a college. Because of the extensive delays this year, some students won't get their final financial aid award letter until the end of August, the U.S. Department of Education said in a recent update. The high school graduate from Riverdale Park, Maryland, secured enough additional funding from the Maryland College Aid Processing System to afford his top choice school: Towson University.

At the time, I hadn't even heard of the term "executive coach." Here's how an executive coach changed my company and myself forever and why executive coaching is still an important part of our continued success. Supply and DemandThe case for housing deregulation starts with Econ 101: Allowing builders to significantly increase housing supply leads to much lower prices. It isn’t rising demand, as the U.S. population rose even faster back when housing prices were roughly stable. Standard of LivingWhat would happen if homebuilders could once again freely build until housing prices were driven back down to cost? The admittedly small number of studies on the link between YIMBY and babies support common sense: Less regulation lowers housing prices, and lower housing prices generally raise birth rates and hasten child-bearing. In a rational world, the panacea policy of housing deregulation would be a done deal.

Comfort and connectionIn addition to all the messages about what people should look like, the physical sensations of summer often bring increased attention to people’s bodies, Campos said. For a better relationship with your body this summer, Campos recommends finding ways to connect with yourself in more enjoyable ways. “That is a connected moment where I can say, ‘This feels good in my body,’” Campos said. “When somebody’s having a hard body image day … I want them to check in about what else is going on,” she said. “You might feel better, but it doesn’t actually change anything in your body.

Feeling comfortable as a transgender woman didn’t seem possible in San Antonio, her hometown, in the midst of a flood of Texas legislation targeting the L.G.B.T.Q. SeongJoon Cho/Bloomberg via Getty ImagesThe U.S. Federal Reserve may start cutting interest rates before year's end. How interest rates impact the U.S. dollarIn reality, the dynamics driving dollar fluctuations are more complex than whether the Fed raises or lowers interest rates. The European Central Bank cut interest rates in June, for example. This is happening against the backdrop of a relatively strong U.S. economy, which also generally supports a strong dollar, Petersen said. For example, investors generally get a better return on cash when interest rates are high.

Donors often operate behind the scenes and, according to sources, have grown increasingly anxious about Biden’s candidacy following his halting debate performance last month. CNN reached out to the Biden campaign for comment. In the immediate wake of Biden’s debate performance, organizers paused conversations on planning the fundraiser until after the July 4 holiday to allow the dust to settle. A spokesperson for the Biden campaign told CNN the event was not affiliated with their official fundraising schedule. Donors elsewhere in the country have told CNN their events are on hold until Biden’s path is clearer.

CNN —The care that comes after a cardiac arrest should include supporting mental health — especially for women, new research has found. The team compared the data on patients’ socioeconomic status and mental health with those in the general population, according to the study. The amount of women taking anxiety or depression medications after cardiac arrest was also greater than in women in the general population, said Smits, a postdoctoral researcher at Amsterdam University Medical Center in the Netherlands. “Mental health and stress make cardiac events worse and more frequent, and we know that cardiac events make mental health worse,” he said. CNN —A United Airlines plane lost a wheel while taking off Monday from Los Angeles International Airport, officials said, marking the latest issue this year for the airline, which was already the focus of a safety review by federal aviation officials. The Boeing 757-200 that lost its wheel completed its planned flight to Denver, where it safely landed, United said. “The wheel has been recovered in Los Angeles, and we are investigating what caused this event,” the airline said in a statement. The incident comes months after another United Airlines flight lost a wheel while taking off from San Francisco International Airport, damaging several cars in a parking lot. The incident was one of at least a dozen involving United Airlines flights in March, according to a CNN analysis, prompting CEO Scott Kirby to send a safety message to customers.

That's because I don't wear a wedding ring. I know several couples from home who choose not to wear wedding rings. I've been at work and colleagues have asked with genuine curiosity and perplexion why I don't wear a ring. So, I suppose that not wearing a wedding ring is partly that the ritual of getting married got interrupted. There aren't as many events or outings I go to post-pandemic that require getting dressed up, which is when I'd typically wear jewelry.

Back in 2016, a colleague handed Donald F. McGahn II, then a top legal adviser to the presidential candidate Donald J. Trump, an appeals court opinion that eloquently and powerfully echoed much of what Mr. McGahn saw as the evils of an out-of-control federal bureaucracy. The opinion from the Denver-based appeals court by the relatively unknown Judge Neil M. Gorsuch suggested it might be time for federal courts to confront the “behemoth” of a longstanding precedent conferring substantial regulatory power on federal officials. One month later, Mr. McGahn placed Judge Gorsuch on Mr. Trump’s list of potential Supreme Court nominees should he be elected. Four months later, he was President Trump’s first nominee to the high court. And over the past week, Justice Gorsuch wrote for the conservative majority on the Supreme Court that made sure the behemoth was slain.

Where did all the lifeguards go?

My girlfriends, a year or two older, were most interested in catching the eye of the male lifeguards. The swim disparities also influenced the scope of a lifeguard's job. While the lack of qualified lifeguards may partly stem from this problem, getting more lifeguards on stands could turn things around. As we enter our fourth year without enough lifeguards, it's hard to imagine them retaking the podium as the cultural idol of American summer. When more cities prioritize safe water access for the masses — and pay lifeguards accordingly — the mighty lifeguard just may rise again.

The deal reportedly includes a player option for the 2025-26 season, giving James, 39, control over his future after next season. James, a four-time NBA MVP, also tops the all-time playoff scoring leaderboard with 8,162 points. Last season, he also became the first player to be selected for 20 All-Star appearances, surpassing the record he had jointly held with Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. A satellite dish is no longer the only way bars and restaurants can air the National Football League's package of "Sunday Ticket" games. With this acquisition, bars, restaurants, casinos and other businesses will be able to stream "Sunday Ticket" games. "Sunday Ticket" is an integral sports package for bars and restaurants since it provides all out-of-market NFL games. Since then, the media rights owners of NFL games have begun to offer games simultaneously on their streaming services — and in some cases exclusively. Major components of President Biden’s student loan repayment plan can continue to operate as lawsuits challenging it wind through the legal system, a federal appellate court ruled on Sunday. That frees the administration to cut certain borrowers’ payments by as much as half, a benefit that had been previously scheduled but blocked. The order, from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit in Denver, is the latest twist in a saga that began to unfold last week after two federal judges temporarily suspended parts of the plan known as SAVE. That program, which has about eight million enrollees, ties borrowers’ monthly payment amounts to their income and household size. The judge in Missouri blocked new debt cancellation through the SAVE program, though legal experts initially said it wasn’t clear how widely that ruling should be interpreted.

AdvertisementAs the way we save for retirement has evolved, some people are now cashing in on the golden age for retirement savings — when benefits were more generous and investments in real estate and stocks boomed. While it's still possible to achieve, a fat retirement account has become rarer. AdvertisementBack in 2007, per GAO's calculations of the Survey of Consumer Finances, around 21% of low-income households had a retirement account balance. While losses weren't as profound for those in the middle-income quintile, their retirement account balances did fall slightly from 2007 to 2019. All of that comes as retirement savings become more of an individual onus.
