☆ Robinhood rolls out high-risk margin trading in the UK after getting regulator nod

The launch of margin trading follows the recent approval of the product, after Robinhood held conversations with Britain's financial regulator, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). Margin trading is a rarity in the U.K., where regulators see it as more controversial because of the risks involved to users. Some platforms in the country limit margin trading for only high-net-worth individuals or businesses. In the case of margin trading, investors can use borrowed money to increase the size of their trades. At the time of launch, Robinhood was unable to offer U.K. users the option of margin trading, pending discussions with the FCA.

A collection of stocks including AT & T and Tesla could see strong moves this week on the heels of quarterly results. Looking ahead, CNBC Pro screened for stocks that could see large moves in either direction in response to quarterly results this week, specifically by examining forecast moves based on action in the options market. Elba aims to build film studios across Africa, starting in Zanzibar, the Tanzanian semi-autonomous island renowned for its white sand beaches. “Much of the imagery about Africa isn’t even generated from Africa,” Elba told CNN at the Stellar Development Foundation’s Meridian conference in London this week. Global players like Netflix and Disney have already made sizable investments in Kenya, South Africa and Nigeria. S & P 500 money is oblivious to stock valuations of any kind and ignorant to upgrades and downgrades. The Lilliputian sellers regularly fail to do damage when matched with the oblivious index money. A 4% 2-year note isn't competitive to the magnet of the S & P 500 and its kin. That's emblematic of what happens with a big buyback without stock-based compensation (something many tech firms use that renders moot the S & P 500 inflows). Because of the way that the S & P 500 money is divvied up, the share base becomes overwhelmingly index-fund based and the index fund shareholders do not sell.

China’s National Bureau of Statistics on Friday reported third-quarter GDP growth of 4.6% year on year, slightly exceeding the 4.5% expected by economists polled by Reuters. “The national economy showed positive signs of growth in September,” Sheng Laiyun, the bureau’s deputy commissioner, said at the news conference, according to CNBC’s translation of the Chinese. Other data also released on Friday, such as retail sales and industrial production, also beat expectations, a hopeful sign for the world’s second-largest economy. “Despite the multitude of challenges, China’s economy is not incurable as some would suggest,” Xu added. The biggest banks on Wall Street reported a huge boost in dealmaking fees this quarter after a two-year slump. Investment bank revenue surged 30% on average at Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, Bank of America, Citigroup, and Morgan Stanley, according to Wells Fargo analyst Mike Mayo. Morgan Stanley's investment bank revenue surged 56% year over year to $1.46 billion, beating Wall Street expectations.
