William Montgomery repeatedly refused to show receipts for his purchases at Denver-area Walmart stores. Project Veritas is suing its founder and former leader, James O'Keefe. Project Veritas alleges that he violated his employment contract and wooed donors from a confidential list. "Defendant James O'Keefe ("O'Keefe") failed in his duties to Plaintiff, Project Veritas, causing it serious and significant damage." Later that month, O'Keefe founded the O'Keefe Media Organization, which is also a defendant in the lawsuit along with two other Project Veritas employees who assisted with the project. The O'Keefe Media Organization directly competes with Project Veritas — a violation of O'Keefe's employment contract, Project Veritas alleges.

To my surprise, one simple solution has taken out some of the sting, saving us hundreds of dollars: The Prime Visa credit card (previously known as the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature). (Note: To be eligible you need an Amazon Prime membership, which costs $139 per year.) I knew the Prime Visa existed—I’ve been writing about personal finance for 11 years—still, when my husband suggested we apply, I was skeptical. With my daughter about to turn one, I hope our Amazon spending will slow down a bit (though some experienced parents may smirk at my optimism). Either way, I’ll continue to put any Amazon purchases on this card and would recommend it to any new parents.

CNN —The songs of Queen are known the world over, and the band’s body of work might soon sell for a staggering sum. A source familiar with the music acquisition tells CNN that discussions are “well underway” for Universal Music Group to acquire Queen’s catalog from Disney Music Group. The source added that the sale could surpass $1 billion and that the deal is “expected to close within one month.”CNN has reached out to Universal Music Group and Disney Music Group for comment, as well as a representative for the band. That sum remains arguably the highest amount a music catalog has sold for, but if the Queen sale goes through, a new record will be set. The billion dollar total for Queen’s music is surely that high thanks in part to the 2018 Oscar-winning film “Bohemian Rhapsody,” which told the story of the band’s inception with a focus on late frontman Freddie Mercury, thereby inspiring a resurgence in popularity of the band’s music.
Big banks are hiring a lot of AI talent, but are having a tough time holding on to it. The difficulty banks have retaining AI talent, however, isn't due to poaching among peers. Banks can lure in AI talentIt's true that big banks have the wherewithal to hire and capitalize on top AI talent and are attractive at the outset to those looking for a new shop. CNN —The Foo Fighters have found their new drummer after the sudden death of their longtime friend and drummer Taylor Hawkins. During the “Foo Fighters: Preparing Music for Concerts” livestream event that previewed the group’s 11th studio album, “But Here We Are,” on Sunday, the band introduced studio drummer Josh Freese as Hawkins’ successor. Freese is a veteran drummer and has played with Nine Inch Nails, The Offspring, Sting and Weezer, among many others. He also played with the Foo Fighters during a London tribute show for Hawkins in 2022, even playing on the late drummer’s very own drum kit. Xi will present visiting Central Asian leaders with “a series of proposals” on the long-term development of ties and sign agreements, Chinese officials said this week. It is “of great interest to Central Asia nowadays to cooperate with China as one of its important alternative markets,” he added. However, Khitakhunov said, Central Asian leaders would be just as keen to have discussions about trade, investment and joint projects with Western players like the European Union. Central Asian countries have also seen and cracked down on popular protests and unrest in recent years. Like China, Central Asia leaders have typically avoided condemning Russia in forums like the UN, for example abstaining on major General Assembly resolutions calling for the withdrawal of Russian troops.
“That’s going to be a battle we all have to fight in the next couple of years: Defending our human capital against AI,” he added. Contentious debate over AI songs has arisen in the music industry over the last few months, with several high-profile figures being affected by the growth in the technology’s popularity. I imagine I will feel the same way about AI making music,” said Sting. But for songs, you know, expressing emotions, I don’t think I will be moved by it,” he added. Universal Music Group, which represents Sting, likened AI music to “fraud” in an urgent letter sent to music streaming platforms, such as Spotify and Apple Music, in April.

A man has been indicted on charges that he stole a pair of the famed ruby slippers worn by Judy Garland in “The Wizard of Oz,” from the Judy Garland Museum in Grand Rapids, Minn., the actress’s hometown, nearly 18 years ago. Mr. Martin was indicted on one count of theft of a major artwork. The one-page indictment did not provide any further details about the case. It was not immediately clear if Mr. Martin had a lawyer. Reached by phone Wednesday at his home, Mr. Martin told The Minneapolis Star Tribune that he had to go to trial, and added: “I don’t want to talk to you.”
But inflation sits at near 30-year highs of 7.0%, forcing the government to announce relief measures aimed at lowering power bills and easing pressure on consumer prices. "We wanted to take pressure off families whilst we didn't put pressure on inflation," Prime Minister Anthony Albanese told ABC Radio. The budget includes a A$14.6 billion ($10 billion) cost-of-living plan, set to deliver up to A$3 billion in direct energy bill relief for low-income families and small businesses. Treasurer Jim Chalmers brushed aside concerns the support measures could stoke inflation, saying all the relief would not impact the economy at the same time. The Tiny Craft Mapping Superstorms at Sea Shortly after dawn on Sept. 30, 2021, Richard Jenkins watched a Category 4 hurricane overrun his life’s work. That August, a sister ship, SD 1031, successfully entered Tropical Storm Henri, but only in its early stages. Hurricane research, modeling and forecasting requires many terabytes of data for every square mile the storm passes through, including vitally important sea-level data from inside a storm. The next day, the depression was upgraded to a tropical storm and officially given the name Sam. And four months later, Tropical Storm Megi killed more than 150, wiped out several villages with landslides and displaced more than a million people.
“I love you, but you kill me, and I kill you.”Marriage is where “Succession” hits viewers the closest. And marriage is the theme of this week’s episode — one of the best in the four-season series. It shows the marriage of Shiv and Tom plunge from workplace sexting to brooding in separate beds in the same cavernous apartment. The unlikely marriage of Connor and Willa endures under the mutual recognition of his submission and her domination. And the impending marriage of creaky Waystar Royco and futuristic Nordic GoJo hangs in the balance.
While many of the problems that helped trigger the upward spiral have abated, prices are still high and getting higher. The idea that companies are taking advantage of disruptions to push price increases on consumers has many names — greedflation, excuseflation, price gouging, corporate profiteering — but the gist is the same. Supply-chain issues and other disruptions made sense as drivers of higher prices, Chris Becker, a senior economist and the associate director of policy and research at the Groundwork Collaborative, told me. "Working people are suffering thanks to corporate greed, so we need to enact tougher rules to ensure corporations pay a price when they price gouge." First Republic could make failure safe again

NEW YORK, April 27 (Reuters Breakingviews) - When Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank failed in March, U.S. authorities bailed out their depositors regardless of size. The slower destruction at First Republic Bank (FRC.N) could provide an opportunity to reverse the regrettable precedent. And while it’s never good when a business fails, there’s a potential benefit to letting First Republic go. First Republic had $233 billion of assets at the end of March, and $104 billion of deposits compared with $176 billion at the end of December. Silicon Valley Bank, owned by SVB Financial, was taken into receivership on March 10, while Signature Bank was closed by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp on March 12.
LONDON, April 27 (Reuters) - Barclays reported better than expected first-quarter profit on Thursday after a strong performance from its credit card business offset pressure on other business lines. The British bank's pretax profit of 2.6 billion pounds ($3.25 billion) beat analyst forecasts for a repeat of the previous year's 2.2 billion pounds. Income at the lender's consumer, cards and payments division rose 47% to 1.3 billion pounds thanks to rising credit card balances driven partly by its acquisition of a portfolio from retailer Gap last year. While higher credit card spending boosted Barclays' finances, there were signs this could have a sting in the tail. Fixed income, currencies and commodities (FICC) was a bright spot, with income rising 9% to 1.8 billion pounds.

"(Recession) is still out there as a pretty significant risk, but handicapping the timing of it is difficult." Upbeat earnings from Microsoft (MSFT.O), Alphabet Inc (GOOGL.O) and Boeing Co (BA.N) took the sting out of some disappointing economic data, which suggested weakening corporate expenditures on core capital goods. Emerging market stocks rose 0.23%. The dollar index fell 0.35%, with the euro up 0.57% to $1.1034.
Techs lift the S&P 500, dollar softens

SINGAPORE, April 26 (Reuters) - The S&P 500 inched higher on Wednesday and the dollar weakened as investors weighed solid company earnings against weaker-than-expected economic data and ongoing wrangling in Washington on raising the debt ceiling. "Megacaps are doing well based on strong earnings," said Bill Northey, senior investment director at U.S. Bancorp in Helena, Montana. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (.DJI) fell 42.01 points, or 0.13%, to 33,488.82, and the S&P 500 (.SPX) gained 8.73 points, or 0.21%, to 4,080.36. The U.S. dollar softened against a basket of major world currencies as the previous session's flight to safety faded and the euro gained strengthThe dollar index fell 0.46%, with the euro up 0.68% to $1.1047. Crude prices extended their losses as weak economic data further fueled fears of an economic downturn.
EMISSIONS TRADING TWEAKSThe European Union's Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) is the region's main device for managing emissions by providing financial incentives to cut pollution while penalising high emitters. This is designed to prevent companies moving heavy polluting parts of their supply chain to areas outside of the EU ETS catchment area, and ensure that companies cannot merely outsource the dirtiest parts of the production phase elsewhere. However, this new mechanism runs the risk of eroding the cost competitiveness of hard-to-decarbonize sectors, such as steel and chemicals producers. The key now for Europe's lawmakers is to ensure that many of these new hurdles can still be cleared by key industries without undermining the economic competitiveness of the entire region.
