And I think he’s right there with Reagan as far as his track record, what he did overall throughout his presidency. I think it really does set her up well as you do move on into some other states. nick corasanitiSo New Hampshire has a long history of really just going against Iowa, right? Those independents is where the question of the final results really, really come in. They were economic voters, taxation voters, pro-gun voters, not any of those kind of evangelical issues that we heard in Iowa.

Winter turned its icy glare on the U.S. this week, blanketing cities and states from east to west with snow and sending temperatures into an Arctic spiral. Heavy lake-effect snow shut down city hall, canceled school in several districts and led to travel bans across multiple suburbs. Blades of grass hardened into icicles as snow fell and temperatures dropped in Houston, Texas. Pedestrians braved the cold while walking in downtown Kansas City, Missouri, and children sailed down snow drifts at the U.S. Capitol in Washington. And steam rising off of Lake Michigan in Chicago drew would-be photographers, bundled up and enjoying the view as winter settled in.

On Wednesday morning, Trump attacked Haley again, posting an altered photo of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton with Haley’s face superimposed on it. Those ads have attacked Haley on immigration, something Trump’s team views as a top issue for Republicans in New Hampshire. During a rally in Atkinson, New Hampshire, on Tuesday, Trump accused Haley of “artificially boosting her numbers” by appealing to “Democrats and liberals to infiltrate” the GOP primary. Only Republicans and undeclared voters can participate in the New Hampshire GOP primary, and the deadline for Democrats to change their registration passed months ago. Rather than attacking Trump directly, Haley has lumped her former boss together with President Joe Biden — taking swipes at their ages.

Those totals were then multiplied by 25 or 30 years, excluding Social Security payments, since those benefits would supplement retirees' personal savings. The study assumes that retirees will receive annual Social Security payments of $21,566.76, the U.S. average based on the most recent information provided by the Social Security Administration. For a 25-year retirement, you'd need just over $2 million in Hawaii — the most of all states by far. That's followed by Massachusetts, California and New York, along with 12 other states where you'd need at least $1 million saved up to retire. Ron DeSantis, who had staked his campaign on a strong showing in Iowa, came in at a distant second, with 21.2% of the vote. “You helped us get a ticket pushed out of the Hawkeye State,” DeSantis told supporters in Iowa Monday night. And about two-thirds – 66% – of the GOP Iowa voters believe President Joe Biden did not legitimately win the presidency in 2020. The state also prides itself on giving a boost to lesser-known contenders who make the effort to meet one-on-one with Hawkeye State voters. GUATEMALA CITY (AP) — Guatemalan President-elect Bernardo Arévalo is scheduled to be sworn into office Sunday afternoon. But just like almost every day since his resounding Aug. 20 election victory, the inauguration will be tinged with doubts and tensions. The still-serving Attorney General, Consuelo Porras, has tried every legal trick in the book to put him on trial or in jail before he takes office. And Arévalo’s Seed Movement party will not have a majority in Congress, and may not even have formal recognition there. Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy speaks during a joint press conference with Lithuania's President (not in picture) in Vilnius, Lithuania, on January 10, 2024. Ukraine pushed ahead with its peace formula to end nearly two years of war with Russia with a meeting of national security advisers from around the world in Davos on Sunday. Switzerland, which hosted the NSA representatives, said the Ukraine peace talks aimed to finalise principles "for a lasting and just peace in Ukraine" at the level of national security advisers. The role of the Global South in Ukraine's peace formula talks has come into focus in Davos. It is unclear, however, if countries in the Global South agree with that as a peace formula.

“Our grassroots supporters have put us in position to win, and now we have to show up to Caucus for President Trump on Monday and get the job done,” Trump said in a statement late Saturday, after the poll’s release. The DeSantis campaign seized on that uncertainty in a late Saturday night message to supporters who might have felt stung by the latest horse-race numbers. Like everyone else, Trump was thinking about the weather – and what it could mean for the caucuses – upon setting foot in Des Moines. Nearly 90% of Trump-backing likely caucus-goers say in the poll that they are extremely or very enthusiastic about voting for him. The Florida governor entered the 2024 GOP presidential primary as the odds-on favorite to challenge Trump for the nomination.

ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) — Some of the most contested real estate for Iowa's Republican caucuses is a vast, wind-swept plain where hogs outnumber people by the millions. Ron DeSantis have invested in appealing to politically influential evangelicals, making the fight for northwest Iowa a microcosm of the race to win Monday's caucuses. DeSantis has spent long hours courting voters here, stopping Thursday in Rock Rapids, population 2,600, before heading to Le Mars, about four times larger. Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, with his social conservative brand, competed strongly for northwest Iowa in 2016 and edged Trump in the region on his way to a narrow caucus victory. Ambassador Nikki Haley, aiming for a surprise second-place finish in Iowa, has campaigned in northwest Iowa, but less often and to smaller audiences.

It does not distinguish between civilians and militants. Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant told journalists during a press conference on Saturday that the military has killed “thousands of terrorists.” The Israeli military has not officially published any estimates of those killed. MOUNTAIN VIEW, California (AP) — From underwater drones to electronic warfare, the U.S. is expanding its high-tech military cooperation with Australia and the United Kingdom as part of a broader effort to counter China’s rapidly growing influence in the Indo-Pacific. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin met with defense chiefs from Australia and the United Kingdom at the U.S. military’s defense technology hub in Silicon Valley on Friday to forge a new agreement to increase technology cooperation and information sharing. The three nations have laid out plans for the so-called AUKUS partnership to help equip Australia with a fleet of eight nuclear-powered submarines. AUKUS is an acronym for Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States. He added that as an island nation, Australia has a need for improved maritime drones and precision strike capabilities.
