SpaceX is set to launch two new crew members to the International Space Station on Saturday, in a capsule that will eventually bring home two NASA astronauts who flew to orbit on Boeing’s problem-plagued Starliner spacecraft. On their return flight back to Earth, NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams will ride with them. After numerous delays, NASA opted to keep the two astronauts at the space station. Originally, the Crew-9 flight was supposed to carry four crew members to the space station, but in order to leave seats open for Wilmore and Williams, two NASA astronauts will have to wait for a future launch. Elon Musk near a Falcon 9 rocket at SpaceX headquarters in Hawthorne, California in 2018. SpaceXSo much of the way SpaceX operates, as you tell it in the book, is Elon Musk's hands-on management and the way he pushes his workers. I don't think Elon does very well in those types of environments. I don't really understand the entire arc of his changing political views over the last decade. I don't think the regular person really understands what a technological leap Starship is.

It seems hard to believe now, but in 2021, Time named Elon Musk its Person of the Year. Musk’s right-wing turn isn’t universal or even typical: Reporting suggests that even with the rightward turn of several boldface names, Silicon Valley remains heavily Democratic. But right-wing tech bros are exerting a significant and, I’d argue, malign influence on the political landscape. Consider the case of JD Vance, the junior senator from Ohio and Donald Trump’s running mate. He’s a remarkable campaigner — remarkable, that is, in the sense that he seems incredibly bad at it.

The numbers were flipped for Republicans, with 62% having positive feelings toward him and 14% negative feelings. Musk didn’t respond to a request for comment Tuesday. Overall public support for Musk is negative, with 34% holding positive views and 45% negative views, according to the poll.

New York CNN —In 2017, adult party game Cards Against Humanity bought land on the US-Mexico border to meddle with former President Donald Trump’s border wall. Now it’s suing over that land after another controversial billionaire has allegedly moved in without permission. Chicago-based Cards Against Humanity LLC, the publisher of the popular card game, filed a $15 million civil lawsuit Thursday against Elon Musk’s SpaceX over alleged trespassing on its lot in Cameron County, Texas. While the Cards Against Humanity’s land was vacant when purchased, the lawsuit claimed SpaceX began encroaching on its property, which is located just three miles away from SpaceX’s Starbase launch facility. The lawsuit claimed by allowing Musk’s company “to essentially steal the Property from CAH without remorse or even explanation,” CAH’s reputation with its supporters would be damaged.

AdvertisementBut an expert on corporate law told Business Insider that there's a reason the billionaire isn't taking his battle of free speech principles to, say, France. Musk has previously complied with content moderation requests from other governments, including the increasingly authoritarian nations of Turkey and India. In 2023, he indicated he would abide by the European Union's rulebook on content moderation, known as the Digital Services Act, Politico reported. Alon-Beck told BI that, in countries like France with strict laws around content moderation, Musk is no different than Durov, and she would expect he could be arrested if he continues to push the boundaries of local content moderation laws. US Magistrate Judge Laurel Beeler said in February that Musk viewed the SEC's investigation as "baseless and harassing." In the regulator's view, Musk should have known about the launch and made proper arrangements beforehand. Spiro also argued that Musk's attendance at the SpaceX launch was exactly the type of emergency that the court order agreed could lead to rescheduling. The maker of the party game Cards Against Humanity has sued Elon Musk’s SpaceX accusing it of trespassing on and damaging company-owned property in Texas. The dispute involves a plot of vacant land near Brownsville, Texas, far from the Cards Against Humanity corporate headquarters in Chicago. Former CEO for Boeing's defense, space and security subdivision Ted Colbert speaks during a press conference in Dubai on Nov. 16, 2019. The head of Boeing 's defense unit Ted Colbert is leaving the company effective immediately, said CEO Kelly Ortberg, marking his first major executive change since he took the top job in early August. Ortberg thanked Colbert for his 15 years of service at Boeing and said the unit's Chief Operating Officer Steve Parker would take over until the company names Colbert's replacement. Boeing's defense, space and security unit generated nearly 40% of Boeing's revenue in the first half of this year, but it has struggled with production problems and cost overruns, including on the new 747s that will serve as Air Force One aircraft. In the space sector, Boeing's Starliner is returning without the NASA astronauts who took it to the International Space Station in June.

New York CNN —The Securities and Exchange Commission intends to seek sanctions against Elon Musk over his failure to appear for testimony in an investigation related to his takeover of Twitter, now called X, the regulator said in a court filing Friday. Earlier this year, a federal judge ordered Musk to testify as part of the SEC’s probe of the billionaire’s $44 billion acquisition. The agency is examining whether Musk followed the law when disclosing his purchases of Twitter stock and whether his statements in relation to the deal were misleading. The SEC asked the court to impose “meaningful conditional relief” if Musk does not appear at the new October testimony date. The SEC also said it intends to file a sanctions motion against Musk to recoup its travel costs for the cancelled testimony and for other relief.

Thanks to a special Texas law, the two astronauts will still be able to perform their civic duty, voting absentee from low-Earth orbit. Since then, multiple astronauts have cast ballots from space, including now-retired NASA astronaut Leroy Chiao in 2004. Like most US astronauts, Wilmore and Williams live near NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Texas’ Harris County, where election officials confirmed to CNN that they are working with the space agency to send the astronauts their ballots on Saturday. “Before sending the astronauts their ballot, a test ballot with a unique password is sent first,” said Rosio Torres-Segura, a spokesperson for the Harris County clerk. Once the astronauts vote their live ballot, it is returned, printed, and processed with other ballots.”Wilmore and Williams’ ballots will arrive on Earth about five months before they do.
