Go with a growth mindsetPrior to ChatGPT's public launch, most managers had minimal experience using generative AI. That changed quickly as some businesses — including IBM — suggested that managers start using AI or risk losing their jobs. The better question for leaders is, "Do I believe I can learn to leverage generative AI in a productive way?" We are seeing this at an organizational level with AI, as some leaders put the brakes on using generative AI, based in part on perception of an AI-related skills gap among employees and the challenge of filling that. The conclusion here is that to get the best of generative AI, don't play into a dictator-servant relationship.

REUTERS/Andrew KellyNEW YORK, Aug 3 (Reuters Breakingviews) - The iPhone 15 is probably coming soon, but the handset that anchors Apple (AAPL.O) is losing some of its allure. Apple sold nearly $40 billion of them in the quarter, a 2.5% dip from roughly the same three-month stretch in 2022. In 2017, though, existing U.S. owners waited 2.1 years to replace their iPhone, according to Consumer Intelligence Research Partners. The segment’s revenue reached a record $21 billion in the quarter, or 8% more than the same period a year ago.

Investing alongside Malone is complicated for individuals because Liberty Media has a string of tracking stocks for all its different businesses. Live Nation trades under its common stock ticker LYV, while's Liberty's share is available under the LLYVA and LLYVB tracking stocks. July 21 (Reuters) - Shares in Sirius XM Holdings (SIRI.O) were down 10.5% on Friday, erasing some of their dramatic gains in the previous day's session with analysts attributing the volatility to a short squeeze, as well as a rebalance of the Nasdaq 100 (.NDX). U.S. satellite and online radio company, Sirius XM, which is majority owned by Liberty Media (FWONA.O), last traded at $6.99 after closing up 42% at $7.81 on Thursday for its biggest one-day percentage gain since March 2009. A short squeeze is when these investors are forced to quickly cover their bets to limit losses if a stock gains ground instead of falling. "However, the large number of shares held short along with a relatively small float provided fertile ground for a short squeeze as seen on July 20," wrote Macker who estimates a $7.50 fair value for the stock. Evercore analyst Vijay Jayant said the upcoming rebalance of the Nasdaq 100, of which Sirius is a member, was also a factor for the short squeeze as well as related options trading.

Apple stock popped briefly Wednesday after a Bloomberg News report said the company was developing its own artificial intelligence large language model internally. The move signals Apple is taking recent advances in AI technology seriously and is considering integrating them into future products. For the past year, technologists and investors have been enamored of large language models, an AI technology that can turn out text or code that looks like a human wrote it. Some Apple staffers believe the company is aiming for a significant AI announcement next year, according to the report. Aside from LLMs, Apple uses a lot of machine learning in its products, from Siri speech recognition to the ability of the Photos app to detect faces and pets.

July 19 (Reuters) - Apple (AAPL.O) is working on artificial intelligence (AI) offerings similar to OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Bard, Bloomberg News reported on Wednesday, sending its shares up as much as 2% to a record high. Apple has, however, subtly pushed advanced AI in some of its products such as Apple Photos, on device texting, and the recently launched mixed-reality headset Vision Pro. Apple's core AI product, voice assistant Siri, has also stagnated over the years. The Bloomberg report said several teams are involved in the latest AI effort, which is led by John Giannandrea, the company's head of machine learning and AI, and Craig Federighi, Apple's top software engineering executive. Employees say the tool essentially replicates Bard, ChatGPT and Bing AI, and works as a web application.

Apple is reportedly working on new artificial-intelligence tools, Bloomberg first reported. Some people at the company are dubbing the new chatbot "Apple GPT," Bloomberg said. Apple has finished working on a foundation for its large language models — the systems that power conversational AI tech — that it calls "Ajax," Bloomberg reported. It will affect every product and every service that we have," Apple CEO Cook said during a February earnings call. So far, Apple has integrated AI into features like "fall detection" found on some Apple Watch Models, and "crash detection" on specific Apple Devices — tools Cook has said are keeping people safe.

Here's the latest AI developments at Salesforce, Apple and Microsoft — along with our take on the news. A generative AI experience built into Apple devices, however, would be an entirely new feature for users. Apple's smart assistant Siri would be the natural place to implement generative AI within the Apple ecosystem. The company promotes both generative AI tools as a way to improve productivity . We've long believed this to be true – and that's why we greeted Salesforce's price-hike announcement last week with open arms – but Wednesday's incremental generative AI updates reinforce our conviction.

"High level, we want this to become something like your personal AI friend," said developer Div Garg, whose company MultiOn is beta-testing an AI agent. The race towards increasingly autonomous AI agents has been supercharged by the March release of GPT-4 by developer OpenAI, a powerful upgrade of the model behind ChatGPT - the chatbot that became a sensation when released last November. GPT-4 facilitates the type of strategic and adaptable thinking required to navigate the unpredictable real world, said Vivian Cheng, an investor at venture capital firm CRV who has a focus on AI agents. OpenAI itself is very interested in AI agent technology, according to four people briefed on its plans. There are at least 100 serious projects working to commercialize agents, said Matt Schlicht, who writes a newsletter on AI.

How Amazon Taught Alexa to Speak in an Irish Brogue
  + stars: | 2023-07-01 | by ( Bernhard Warner | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +1 min
Alexa had dropped the “r” in “party,” making the word sound flat, like pah-tee. The technologists are part of a team at Amazon working on a challenging area of data science known as voice disentanglement. Tackling voice disentanglement involves far more than grasping vocabulary and syntax. Such work may eventually converge with an explosion of “generative A.I.,” a technology that enables chatbots to generate their own responses, researchers said. At the same time, voice assistants like Alexa and Apple’s Siri will become more conversational, potentially rekindling consumer interest in a tech segment that had seemingly stalled, analysts said.
