CNBC's Jim Cramer on Thursday listed the CEOs he trusts even when the market doesn't, primarily naming executives from top tech companies. Cramer said investors shouldn't doubt solid companies every time a negative data point surfaces. Cramer said he's giving Amazon 's Andy Jassy, Broadcom 's Hock Tan and Nvidia 's Jensen Huang "the benefit of the doubt." Tech stocks can be hampered by investors who don't completely understand the companies' operations or trajectories, according to Cramer. "In tech, the complexity is such that Wall Street often reaches conclusions that have little to do with reality."

A Republican congressman slammed Meta on Thursday over what the lawmaker called an inadequate response to concerns about illicit drug advertisements on Facebook and Instagram. "Meta's response not only ignores most of the questions posed in our letter, but also refuses to acknowledge that these illicit drug ads were approved and monetized by Meta and allowed to run on their platforms," Walberg said in a statement. In its letter to lawmakers, Meta Vice President of Global Legal Strategy Rachel Lieber said that the company shares lawmakers' concerns "about the public safety and health threat caused by the opioid epidemic." The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, a top banking regulator in the United States, said Thursday it has issued an enforcement action against Wells Fargo due to deficiencies in its risk management practices. The regulator said it had identified deficiencies relating to the bank’s financial crimes risk management practices and anti-money laundering internal controls. An agreement under the enforcement action requires the lender to receive permission from the OCC before launching new business in medium- or high-risk areas for money laundering or sanctions. Since 2016, Wells Fargo has spent billions of dollars settling civil and criminal charges related to a multiyear scheme that included repeatedly misapplying loan payments, wrongfully foreclosing on homes, illegally repossessing vehicles, incorrectly assessing fees and interest and charging surprise overdraft fees. Last year, the former head of the bank’s retail operation was sentenced to three years of probation, while the bank’s former CEO was banned from the industry.

Boeing should be kicked out of the Dow
  + stars: | 2024-09-11 | by ( Chris Isidore | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +6 min
The United States is no longer primarily an industrial economy, and the changes in the index over the last 126 years reflect that evolution. Beyond that, there are two other major issues indicating that Boeing no longer belongs in the Dow. Trying to stay relevantBoeing obviously wasn’t an early component of the Dow — the index started seven years before the first plane flew at Kitty Hawk, and 20 years before Boeing was incorporated. In 2020, the Dow dropped ExxonMobil, then struggling with low oil prices during the pandemic, and added tech company Salesforce, then on a tear. Boeing declined to comment when asked about its membership in the Dow.
