Greenlight's David Einhorn said Wednesday at the Sohn Investment Conference in New York he has bought shares of European chemicals company Solvay . "Solvay is an essential chemical company that holds the number one position across all of its markets" Einhorn said. "While all of these are thought of as commodity businesses, they are higher margin and much more stable than most commodity chemical businesses." "All told, Solvay is a commodity chemical company with relatively high and stable margin, a higher return on capital." "At 3.7 times targeted 2028 earnings per share with almost a double-digit dividend yield, it seems too cheap," Einhorn added.

"I think inflation is reaccelerating. I think there's a lot of indication of that," the famed investor said during the Sohn Investment Conference in New York. As a defense play against a potential market downturn, Einhorn also said he is loading up on his gold position . We own physical bars as well, so gold is a very large position for us," Einhorn said. Value investing opportunities Despite his concerns, Einhorn said opportunities are emerging in value stocks, which he thinks are misunderstood nowadays.

US Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, Republican of Louisiana, waits to speak during a news conference after a closed-door House Republican caucus meeting on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC on February 29, 2024. It was not immediately clear how the House would act on her motion, which requires just a majority vote to remove the speaker. Greene told reporters that the motion to vacate was more of a warning shot and that she had not discussed it with President Donald Trump. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., speaks to the media on the House steps of the U.S. Capitol after filing her motion to vacate Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, R-La., on Friday, March 22, 2024. But the possible downside of the better forecast: less Fed easing with the possibility that officials at their meeting this week forecast fewer rate cuts in 2024 they did in December. The CNBC Fed Survey respondents include economists, strategists and fund managers. And while the average recession probability is down, about 20% of respondents still say there's an even money chance or greater of a downturn in the next 12 months. "The larger-than-consensus reduction in the federal funds rate in my forecast is contingent on a recession that brings inflation down," said Robert Fry, of Robert Fry Economics. He has a 60% recession probability and sees the Fed slashing rates to 3.6% by year end from the current level of 5.38%.

Read previewOn Tuesday, Scott Wu's startup Cognition launched what it claims to be the world's "first AI software engineer," Devin, creating quite the buzz — and a little discomfort — in the tech community. The autonomous AI developer, Cognition claims, is the first of its kind to write code, fix bugs, and train AI models, among other tasks, all on its own. Today we're excited to introduce Devin, the first AI software engineer. Devin is… pic.twitter.com/ladBicxEat — Cognition (@cognition_labs) March 12, 2024Cognition claims that Devin can radically change how software engineers do their jobs. And reactions to the capabilities of Devin — which Cognition claims can resolve 13.86% of coding issues found in open-source projects on GitHub — seem mixed.

A startup backed by Peter Thiel has released the "first AI software engineer." A little-known startup called Cognition Labs stunned software engineers this week when its team of coding whizzes unveiled what it calls "the first AI software engineer." AdvertisementHowever, Cognition's AI software engineer appears to have an aptitude that's a notch above. Of course, the startup has been pretty careful with how it presents its AI software engineer. These reactions are understandable at a time when software engineers are feeling the heat.
