SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Nick Bosa's lengthy contract holdout ended four days before the start of the season for the San Francisco 49ers when he agreed to a contract extension that will make him the NFL's richest defensive player ever. Coach Kyle Shanahan said Wednesday that the two sides agreed to the contract and that Bosa is on his way to the team facility. Now Shanahan is glad he can stop thinking about what it would be like for the Niners to open their season without their best defensive player. The Defensive Player of the Year. ESPN first reported the extension and said it was worth $170 million over five seasons with $122.5 million guaranteed.

Or are the stocks that are now hated going to turn out to be precursors of the next downturn? Of all the techs I follow, I think ServiceNow probably had the best quarter. We know what to pay when we think a stock is going up, which is the going price. Next thing you know that stock is down to $143 and you say to yourself, should I buy it back? In that case, you need to sell stocks pretty aggressively until we get oversold, raising cash to 10% like us.

Charles Kushner donated $1 million to Trump's super PAC. Kushner, who Trump pardoned, was one of the largest individual contributors to the super PAC. Trump and his allies have burned cash at an alarming rate, making the donation even more important. Christie has long thought that putting Jared Kushner's father in prison led to him being blocked within Trump's orbit. Charles Kushner's donation was one of the largest to the pro-Trump "Make America Great Again Inc" super PAC has received from an individual contributor through the end of June.

June 15 (Reuters) - Rickie Fowler said he and fellow American golfers Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas are looking to invest in Leeds United after 49ers Enterprises agreed on a takeover of the English soccer club. Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani agreed to sell his stake to the investment arm of the San Francisco 49ers NFL franchise after they were relegated from the Premier League. "There is the group that's moving forward with being involved with Leeds. Myself, JT and Jordan potentially will be a part of it," Fowler told Sky Sports. The trio are looking to follow former NFL player J.J. Watt and his wife, former U.S. soccer international Kealia Watt, who have invested in Burnley.

So there was extra attention around this year’s “Mr Irrelevant” – Desjuan Johnson, a defensive lineman out of the University of Toledo drafted by the Los Angeles Rams as the 259th and final pick. “Just be getting picked, final pick, first pick, middle pick, everything [is] unique,” Johnson said, according to ESPN. “My dad was on my mind today,” said Johnson, who was just four years old when his father died, according to his university website. “Just to learn from him, from watching film and now get to sit next to him and just take notes, I’m going to just be like a newborn,” he said. “I feel like I’m going to be like a newborn, trying to take as much in [and trying] to learn under him.”
Bud Light and its parent company faced boycott calls for partnering with trans influencer Dylan Mulvaney. But a new poll found a majority of American beer drinkers favor brands partnering with trans influencers. A majority of beer drinkers also favored brands hiring more inclusive talent, per Morning Consult. About a quarter of those surveyed who identified as Republicans responded favorably to brands hiring transgender spokespeople. Bud Light sales were down 17% this week compared to the same time the previous year, and top marketing executives involved in the Mulvaney campaign at Bud Light and Anheuser-Busch took leaves of absence.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Anthony Richardson chuckled as the football puttered to the ground. He had launched a high-arcing pass near the end of the University of Florida’s pro day, a March workout in front of scouts from all 32 N.F.L. The heave may have missed its target, but it displayed Richardson’s powerful arm during the job audition. The display encapsulated the scouting report on Richardson, who is projected as a top-10 selection in the N.F.L. draft: jaw-dropping talent, erratically deployed.
CNN —Former Australian rugby and NFL player Jarryd Hayne has been jailed ahead of his sentencing hearing after being found guilty of raping a woman in 2018. Earlier this month Hayne had been found guilty by a jury of two counts of sexual intercourse without consent. In a statement to CNN, Hayne’s barrister Margaret Cunneen said that jury did not understand the standard of proof. He was then tried a second time and, in March 2021, Hayne was found guilty of two counts of sexual intercourse without consent. Hayne is one of the National Rugby League’s most famous players, having won numerous awards for his success on the field.

This is their third trip to the NFL title game in four years and Kansas City fans can be heard throughout Phoenix singing the "tomahawk chop" chant. It is a jarring contrast to the displays of Native American culture and pride that Super Bowl hosts have invited to participate in the days leading up to the game. Chiefs fans are all but assured to perform the "tomahawk chop" cheer loudly in the minutes before kickoff, as they did prior to the game in their previous two Super Bowl appearances. And it's tone deaf," said Rhonda LeValdo, an Acoma Pueblo journalist who founded the Not in our Honor coalition in 2005, to advocate against the use of Native American imagery in sports. "I don't even understand what you guys are saying and you have the Chiefs logo and you guys are doing the chop."
Asked by a reporter this week what took so long, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell was blunt: "There are probably a variety of reasons - probably none of them good." "The reality is, there's such great talent at that position, Black and white," Goodell said at his annual state-of-the-league media briefing. He told the New York Times that year that Black quarterbacks had not "been given the opportunity and the patience" their white counterparts had. "I never felt it was thing where people said it was harder to win with Black quarterbacks, it was more about durability. 'A PROUD MOMENT'At Super Bowl 57, Hurts will be only the eighth Black quarterback to start the title game.
Familiar foe: No walk down Sentimental Street for Andy Reid

February 8 - Andy Reid will stare across the field against familiar uniforms on Sunday but he isn't going to set aside time to be sentimental. Reid is attempting to shoo away references to Super Bowl LVII in Glendale, Ariz., as the "Reid Bowl." Those Eagles Reid is referring to are center Jason Kelce, right tackle Lane Johnson, defensive tackle Fletcher Cox and defensive end Brandon Graham. Philadelphia then lost 24-21 to the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXIX. During the 2008 season, Reid's Eagles reached the NFC title contest but lost to the Arizona Cardinals.
After the Philadelphia Eagles advanced to this year's Super Bowl, head coach Nick Sirianni set a simple goal for his players over their next two weeks of practices — be a little bit better today than you were yesterday. "Our job is to get a little better each day, to climb," Sirianni said. "We don't need to think about getting way down the road here, but how do we get a little better today?" For Sirianni, who's in his second season as the Eagles' head coach, that's the key to achieving success. Small-scale focus adds up: Experts recommend breaking down ambitious goals — like winning the Super Bowl — into smaller, achievable tasks that can be sustained over a longer period of time.
The next-youngest quarterback duo was Joe Montana and Dan Marino, who faced off at Super Bowl 19 at a combined age of 51 years and 350 days, according to ESPN, in 1985. Hurts will become the first member of Gen-Z to start in a Super Bowl, with Pew Research Center defining his generation as those born in 1997 or later. He has plenty of company among high-achieving young quarterbacks. "To find some stability in that position is like finding a massive gold nugget," ESPN analyst and retired twice Super Bowl champion Rob Ninkovich told Reuters. The Kansas City Chiefs play the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl 57 on Feb. 12.
Patrick Mahomes, the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, heads back to the Super Bowl on February 11. He was named Super Bowl MVP in 2020 and 2023. The 2020 and 2023 Super Bowl MVP is one of only two players in NFL history with 5,000 passing yards and 50 passing touchdowns in a single season. Mahomes is returning to the Super Bowl this year as the Chiefs face off against the San Francisco 49ers on February 11. AdvertisementHere are interesting facts you might not have known about Mahomes.

Now, Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts will be the first Black QBs to face off in a Super Bowl. Hurts aims to become the fourth Black QB to win the Super Bowl, joining Williams, Mahomes and Russell Wilson. Steve McNair, Colin Kaepernick, Cam Newton and Wilson also started in the Super Bowl and lost. “I don’t think we have any cigars, but we’ll be ready to go at the Super Bowl,” Mahomes said, poking fun at Joe Burrow’s penchant for puffing those after big wins. Whether it’s Hurts or Mahomes, it’s another victory for the Black QBs who were overlooked throughout the years.

PHILADELPHIA—The NFC Championship between the Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers was billed as a meeting of two of the best-built teams in the NFL, football machines that gain yards in a variety of ways and yield them hardly at all. Then the 49ers, after navigating a season in which one quarterback after another went down with injuries, lost the one who had somehow gotten them to the brink of the Super Bowl. The Eagles beat the 49ers 31-7 on the strength of an imposing defense and patient, ground-based offensive attack. They were unquestionably helped along by an injury to San Francisco quarterback Brock Purdy, the rookie who had risen from being the last player selected in last year’s draft to leading the 49ers’ title run.

"This is something you dream about as a kid," Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said in televised remarks. The situation went from bad to worse for San Francisco as Purdy left the game with an elbow injury after a strip sack by Eagles' linebacker Haason Reddick in the 49ers' first possession. "This is a special city," said Hurts, 24, before leading the euphoric crowd at Lincoln Financial Field in singing the Eagles' fight song, "Fly, Eagles Fly".

What the NFL Playoffs and Tech Layoffs Have in Common

To understand the forces behind the recent layoffs that have ravaged the tech industry, it helps to start with a curious decision by one Bay Area organization. At the end of last year’s National Football League draft, with 261 players off the board and time running out, Brock Purdy was still waiting to hear his name called. Then his phone rang. The San Francisco 49ers were taking him with the very last pick.
Jan 25 (Reuters) - San Francisco 49ers defensive end Charles Omenihu is expected to be available for Sunday's NFC Championship game, the team said on Wednesday, after he was arrested this week on suspicion of domestic violence. San Jose police took Omenihu into custody on Monday after his girlfriend called authorities to say he had pushed her to the ground during an argument. Omenihu was not expected to take a full part in practice on Wednesday due to an injury. "We're letting the legal process take care of itself so if he's healthy he'll play this week," said head coach Kyle Shanahan. "We feel very good letting the legal process take care of itself and don't feel we should kick him off the team at this time," said Shanahan.

Jan 24 (Reuters) - San Francisco 49ers defensive end Charles Omenihu was arrested on Monday for misdemeanor domestic violence, the San Jose Police Department said. Police said Omenihu was booked at the Santa Clara County Main Jail but later posted bail and is no longer in custody, adding that the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office will consider possible charges. "An adult female... called to report that her boyfriend, Charles Omenihu, pushed her to the ground during an argument. "Based on the victim’s statement and the complaint of pain, Omenihu was arrested." "We are aware of the matter involving Charles Omenihu and are in the process of gathering further information," the team said in a statement.
