The omission is potentially significant because Fox is the top TV outlet for Republicans, and Hegseth’s confirmation hinges on Republican senators. On Fox, Hegseth’s former colleagues aren’t raising alarms about the allegations or defending him – they’re just not talking about the issue at all. Instead, almost all of the recent mentions of Hegseth on Fox have been supportive or sympathetic. Hegseth told police the sex was consensual and he was never charged with a crime. A Fox News spokesperson declined to say whether the network has made an editorial decision not to report on allegations against its former host.

He’s set to receive 18 months of his base annual salary of $1.25 million, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Gelsinger also owns roughly 646,000 shares in Intel as of a November regulatory filing. On Monday, Intel announced Gelsinger would resign after his difficult tenure in the company contributed to its stock cratering from missing out on the AI boom that boosted much of its rivals. South Korea's inflation rate climbed in November to 1.5% year on year, from a 45-month low in October, as the country grapples with a weakening Korean won and slowing exports. Last Thursday, South Korea's central bank unexpectedly cut rates by 25 basis points to 3%, marking the first time that the Bank of Korea had enacted two back-to-back cuts since 2009. South Korea narrowly avoided a technical recession in the third quarter, with GDP growing 0.1% quarter on quarter, according to the bank's advance estimates, following a contraction of 0.2% in the second quarter. South Korea's currency has weakened against the greenback over October and November, hitting a two-year high of 1,411.31 as tariff fears from the incoming Trump administration take hold. Data from the World Integrated Trade Solution platform — set up by the World Bank — lists the U.S. as South Korea's second largest trade partner.

The timing appeared to be both calculated and opportunistic. As soon as a deal to end fighting between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon was signed last week, another conflict kicked off not far away in Syria. Syrian rebels launched sweeping assaults against the forces of President Bashar al-Assad in northwestern Syria, taking control of large portions of territory, including much of the city of Aleppo. The rebels also forced Russian forces to abandon a base near Aleppo and militias backed by Iran to cede control of the town of Tel Rifaat, a Syrian outpost near the Turkish border, according to Syrian humanitarian and research groups. The sudden advance of the rebels, and the setback for Mr. al-Assad and his allies, has stoked a cauldron of geopolitical rivalries that has simmered in Syria for more than a decade after a democracy uprising in 2011 turned into full-scale rebellion.

Some retailers "promoted deeper as weekend progressed versus 2023's cadence," analyst Simeon Siegel wrote to clients in a Monday note. Siegel's comments come as investors and analysts try to determine which brands or retailers are outperforming this year, particularly as the holiday shopping season hits its stride. However, Siegel did provide a list of names that went further into discounts than was anticipated as the weekend went on. That means the company may have "underperformed its initial hopes for the outset of the holiday selling," the analyst said. After that run, the typical analyst sees shares slipping by 3% over the next 12 months, according to LSEG.

Elon Musk's battle over his Tesla pay is entering a new phase. A Delaware judge ruled on Monday that Tesla's shareholder vote wasn't enough to pass Elon Musk's $55 billion compensation package. One issue that may come up is whether Musk influenced the negotiations over his Tesla pay package, as the trial judge suggested in her initial ruling, he said. Given that Musk's pay package was set to be the largest ever for a CEO, there aren't many cases to turn to for direct precedent. "When you know Delaware law, you know that stuff like that is just not going to fly," Alon-Beck said.

President Biden has put a special emphasis on South Korea, choosing it as the first non-U.S. site for his annual international conclave, the Summit for Democracy. And in 2023, he hosted President Yoon Suk Yeol for a state dinner at the White House, where the tuxedo-clad Mr. Yoon sang “American Pie” to an adoring audience. Mr. Biden has also relied on Mr. Yoon to provide munitions for Ukraine’s defense against the Russian invasion.
