A Chicago police officer died following a shooting on Monday night in the East Chatham neighborhood on the city’s South Side, authorities said. As officers approached the vehicle, rapid gunfire erupted from one of the individuals, and the officer was struck multiple times, Snelling said. The wounded officer was rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The officer, who was 26 years old, served with the Chicago Police Department for nearly three years, Snelling said. The suspect who shot the officer tried to escape in the vehicle but wasn’t able to and ran away, Snelling stated.

CNN —More severe weather is expected in the South and the Southern Plains Monday, including in Oklahoma, where residents are surveying the destruction from tornado-spawning storms that injured at least 11 people and leveled homes over the weekend. Tornado sirens rang out Monday morning in Oklahoma City, where residents are still surrounded by the destruction and debris caused by the weekend’s severe storms, after the National Weather Service issued a tornado warning. There were no confirmed tornadoes or reports of damage from Monday morning’s storms. A level 2 of 5 threat of severe thunderstorms spans from central and eastern Texas to the Illinois-Missouri border – including Dallas, threatening damaging wind gusts, large hail and tornadoes, according to the SPC. Nearly 40 structures were destroyed in the Oklahoma City area, the Oklahoma City Fire Department said in a Facebook post.

CNN —A US soldier who was critically injured over the summer while on the temporary Gaza pier mission died last week, the Army said Monday. Quandarius Davon Stanley, was one of three US service members injured in non-combat incidents during the mission, though two were immediately returned to duty after suffering minor injuries. “Stanley was injured while supporting the mission that delivered humanitarian aid to Gaza in May 2024 and was receiving treatment in long-term care medical center,” Capt.
