The performance titled 'Messi10', after his favored jersey number, showcases the rise of the striker from his early childhood in Rosario to his iconic moment as world champion. "The incredible thing with this show is that the legend is alive, so he had to approve it," Sean McKeown, artistic director of Cirque du Soleil told Reuters at the preview show in Buenos Aires. Cirque du Soleil first premiered the show in 2019 in Barcelona, where Messi was playing at the time. Plans to tour Latin American in 2024 are underway with a date confirmed in the Dominican Republic in April, the company said.

CNN —Markéta Vondroušová reached her first Wimbledon final after a scintillating performance against Ukrainian Elina Svitolina, winning 6-3 6-3 in just an hour and 14 minutes. The 24-year-old Czech star is the first unseeded woman in the Open Era to reach the Wimbledon final and her exquisitely varied game was too much for Svitolina to handle. It was an inspired performance from Vondroušová, who rose to the occasion on Centre Court and got the better of her opponent with a potent mix of speed, spin and power to reach the second grand slam final of her career. CNN —Daniel Ricciardo is making a surprising mid-season return to the Formula One grid, with the Australian driver replacing the struggling Nyck de Vries at AlphaTauri. Ricciardo, currently a Red Bull reserve driver, is being sent “on loan” to Red Bull’s feeder team for the remainder of the 2023 season, the team announced Tuesday. The 34-year-old, who will race for AlphaTauri in the next grand prix in Hungary on July 23, said he was “stoked to be back on track with the Red Bull family,” according to the F1 website. “It was great to see Daniel hasn’t lost any form while away from racing and that the strides he has been making in his SIM sessions translate on track,” Red Bull team principle Christian Horner said. After a fast start to the season, Perez has made the podium just once in the last five races.

CNN —Edwin van der Sar, who won the Champions League with Ajax and Manchester United during a glittering 21-year soccer career, remains in intensive care but is “communicative” and “not in life-threatening danger,” his former club Ajax said. The Dutch club said on Friday that Van der Sar had been taken to hospital following a bleed around the brain. As well as his two Champions League titles, the former goalkeeper also won four Premier Leagues with Manchester United and four Eredivisie titles with Ajax during an illustrious career. After retiring in 2011, Van der Sar went on to join the board at Ajax before becoming chief executive in 2016. He resigned from the position in May after Ajax finished third in the Dutch first division, missing out on the Champions League for the first time in 14 years.
