Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon owns shares in a luxury real-estate developer, according to the NYT. David Solomon, the chief executive of Goldman Sachs, is known to fly to the Bahamas, where he has a home. The valuation the bankers gave for Discovery Land fell well short of $1 billion, and Goldman did not win that deal. Discovery Land eventually sold $300 million of shares without the help of any bank in early 2021. Insider has previously reported that at least a small number of Goldman Sachs partners and other insiders have complained about Solomon's personal jet use, as well as his side gig as a DJ.

After the 10 days, cast members must decide whether they want to get engaged to another contestant sight unseen — or go home. The season-two contestant Nick Thompson said "Love Is Blind" didn't adequately support its cast members — during or after filming. Many cast members believed "Love Is Blind" would be a cut above other reality shows. The first evening in Cancún, producers told Ruhl she couldn't attend a party for all the newly engaged couples because they thought she might have COVID-19. In a later episode he again became infuriated and threatened to leave when Reed came home late from clubbing with other cast members.

REUTERS/Rebecca Cook/File PhotoWASHINGTON, April 17 (Reuters) - The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday declined to hear a bid by General Motors Co (GM.N) to revive its racketeering lawsuit against rival automaker Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), now part of Franco-Italian automaker Stellantis NV , over bribery allegations involving the United Auto Workers union. Stellantis in a statement praised the court's decision to turn away what it described as "baseless claims" by GM. "Today's decision upholding the district court's dismissal of GM's lawsuit is another reaffirmation that its claims are meritless," Stellantis said. FCA paid a $30 million fine while the UAW agreed to independent oversight to resolve the U.S. Justice Department investigation.
HONG KONG, April 17 (Reuters Breakingviews) - Hong Kong could use a shot of something. Yet compared to the $313 billion Shanghai-listed behemoth Kweichow Moutai (600519.SS), debutante ZJLD is a drop in the near-$100 billion baijiu industry: it logs less than 1% market share. At the top of the marketed price range, ZJLD could be worth $5.4 billion, or almost 24 times this year's forecast earnings, IFR reports. Revenue at the company, which will be the first baijiu distiller to list in Hong Kong, was up a healthy 15% last year, while its adjusted net profit margin topped 20%. For Hong Kong, consumer stocks will put the focus back onto classic risks.
There is also a so-called "greenshoe" option to sell another 73 million shares that could raise an extra $122 million, according to the filings. Baijiu is considered China's national liquor and is the world's most consumed liquor, according to ZJLD's prospectus. Its market share in China is greater than wine's market share in France and beer's market share in the U.S., according to its documents. KKR owns a 16.2% stake in the company, which would fall to 13.8% after the IPO, Hong Kong's largest since Chinese lithium battery maker CALB Group Co (3931.HK) raised $1.3 billion in October. Chartreuse, a centuries-old liqueur, is made by the Carthusian order of monks in the French Alps. In 2019, the monks capped production to lower their environmental impact and focus on prayer. "It used to be something you could rely on being available, so I never really paid much attention to it," Joshua Lutz, a loyal lover of the liqueur, told the Times. According to the New York Times, the Carthusian monks implemented a production cap in 2019, in order to limit their environmental impact, and focus more strongly on solitude and prayer. Michael K. Holleran, a former monk who oversaw Chartreuse production in the 1980s, told the Times.
According to Chartreuse Diffusion, the business arm of the monks’ operation, it took more than 150 years for the Carthusians to “unravel the secret of the manuscript.”Chartreuse became “a mixologist’s ace in the hole,” said Joe Kakos, an owner of Kakos Market, a liquor store in Birmingham, Mich. Many credit Murray Stenson, a bartender at the Zig Zag Café in Seattle, with repopularizing the liqueur in 2003 when he resurrected the century-old Last Word cocktail, a mixture of gin, Chartreuse, lime juice and maraschino liqueur. “I almost feel a little bit guilty,” said Ben Dougherty, the cafe’s owner. In 2020, as the pandemic turned many people into at-home mixologists, sales of Chartreuse in the United States doubled, a pattern that held true worldwide, according to Chartreuse Diffusion. Global sales topped $30 million in 2022.

Deborah Pagani, a fine-jewelry and hair-accessories designer in Manhattan, says that before her 14-year-old’s friends sleep over, their parents often ask the same laundry list of questions: Do she and her husband smoke? (No, no and, well, no—but their two dogs go ballistic if anyone moves around the apartment at night, limiting the ability of underage guests to snoop around.) “I’ve had parents ask me if we have a water filter, which we do,” Ms. Pagani adds. “Can you imagine in the ’90s if a parent called up and was like, I just want to make sure you guys have a water filter. What type of water are the kids drinking, and is there going to be gluten?”
Now, a Tennessee law restricting drag in front of minors is due to come into force on April 1. Several planned drag events were canceled over the winter after protests, and many venues felt forced to make previously family-friendly drag shows into adults-only events. Drag performers and venue owners say they are worried about their livelihoods and their rights of free expression. The Starbucks say there is no such thing as family-friendly drag; drag performers cite Bugs Bunny, Shakespeare's cross-dressing comedies and the Robin Williams film "Mrs. Doubtfire" among counterexamples. Outside of public Pride events, most Tennessee drag performers largely work in clubs and bars that admit only those over 18.
March 23 (Reuters) - The city of Miami Beach curtailed alcohol sales through Monday morning after drunken revelers on spring break got tangled in multiple shootings, fights, assaults and stampedes that resulted in at least two deaths in the past week. Miami Beach, a small barrier island just to the east of Miami, has long been a magnet for wild parties, as college students from around the country take advantage of an annual school vacation to descend on its white sand beaches for an alcohol-soaked rite of passage. All alcohol sales, including by liquor stores, for off-premises consumption are banned from 6 p.m. Thursday until 6 a.m. Monday under an emergency declaration by city manager Alina Hudak on Wednesday. Businesses that sell alcohol oppose the measure, saying it will severely hurt their revenues. But the Miami Beach city commission earlier this week voted 4-to-3 against a curfew, with those opposed saying it would hurt businesses during this peak tourist season.
Mississippi lawmakers passed a bill this year that would allow alcohol sales on Sunday, and North Carolina legislators introduced a measure that would allow happy-hour drink specials. Eleven states restrict the sale of wine in grocery stores, according to the Food Marketing Institute, which represents grocers, including Connecticut, Maryland and New York.
Florida drag queens say the GOP's push to restrict performances is hitting them in their wallets. But one recent incident is leading, in particular, is leading venues to reconsider offering drag performances, they said. Advocates such as Equality Florida say the incident is an example of the DeSantis administration "selectively weaponizing state agencies" to target drag performers and venues that are not harmful for children. The move is already having a chilling effect, and Adrien said it's helping scare other venues from offering drag performances and pushing drag queens from participating in shows for fear of retaliation. Venus Envy, an Orlando-based drag queen, told Insider drag performers have more recently performed at venues "that are not exclusively for the LGBTQ+ community," such as "mainstream bars, restaurants, and theatres."
A Florida drag queen said performers adjust shows when there are children and families in the crowd. Republicans have targeted drag events for kids, introducing bills to restrict and prohibit attendance. Family-friendly drag events — such as Drag Queen Story Hour, which was established as a nonprofit in 2015 and has since become a national event — are under fire from Republican lawmakers. Bills prohibiting minors from attending drag queen events, banning drag performances in public, and classifying drag performances as adult-oriented businesses have been filed across the United States in recent months. Another drag queen, Venus Envy, told Insider that while they don't solely participate in family-friendly performances, they are accustomed to "tailoring my shows to my audiences."

A drag queen who survived the 2016 Pulse club shooting said it only further demonizes LGBTQ people. "Not just in terms of limiting opportunities for drag entertainers, but by demonizing the art of drag as a whole," she wrote. Fine told Insider his motivation for pursuing the bill came after he found out a drag queen show was hosted in a public space in his district last year. However, the representative also said he would not support a bill that eliminates drag shows for consenting adults. In Florida, there have been at least nine demonstrations against the LGBTQ community, the organization found.

The Hyatt Regency Miami's alcohol license is being revoked after hosting a drag show, according to a complaint filed Tuesday. Ron DeSantis praised the move and could win political points for a potential 2024 run. A venue affiliated with the Hyatt Regency in Miami hosted "A Drag Queen Christmas" in December, a touring drag show that includes performers from "RuPaul's Drag Race." "Sexually explicit content is not appropriate to display to children and doing so violates Florida law," Bryan Griffin, DeSantis' press secretary, previously told Leonard. Deterring drag shows from occurring falls in line with the talking points of many prominent conservative figures, who view drag shows as harmful to children, even if might seem out of step with their "small government" values, he said.
The DeSantis administration had previously said it was looking into "A Drag Queen Christmas." "A Drag Queen Christmas" is a holiday-themed drag show that tours in 36 different cities and features stars from the reality show "RuPaul's Drag Race." In July 2022, the DeSantis administration filed a complaint against a Miami bar that hosted a drag show where minors were present. This year, Tennessee became the first to ban adult performances, including drag, from public spaces such as parks and schools. Public libraries across the US began facing backlash from some parents in recent years for hosting Drag Queen Story Hours.
