Over the last three years I’ve learned to manage pastures and help newborn calves latch on to their mamas. (I also learned that “cattle” is the proper gender-neutral term, whereas a “cow” is a female that has had a calf.) While cattle are as intelligent and as lovable as dogs, I’ve found that they go through life at their own leisurely speed. Whereas dogs adapt to the rhythms of human society in all its varied forms, cattle don’t abide sudden movements or states of human agitation. By forcing people to adopt their pace, cattle connect us to the environment in ways that no other animal does.

There are other reasons the dollar has been propelled higher as some European and Asian currencies have seen lackluster growth. A strong dollar makes US exports more expensive and reduces the profits of American companies operating overseas when earnings are converted back to dollars. And while a strong dollar lowers the cost of imported raw materials, it can boost inflation and hurt foreign investments. The families of victims of two fatal crashes of the 737 Max oppose the deal, the department said. Beyond the fatal crashes of the 737 Max jets, the company has faced a series of questions about the safety and quality of its planes.

Read previewJoe Biden is facing mounting pressure to prove he's medically fit to run for a second term, but experts say a cognitive test could set a dangerous precedent. Speaking on CBS's "Face the Nation," Sen. Lindsey Graham said all presidential nominees, including Biden and Trump, should take a cognitive test. Cognitive tests are usually quick and simple and can check for functions such as concentration, abstract thinking, language, and memory. He told ABC's Stephanopoulos on Friday: "I have a cognitive test every single day." According to White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, after Biden's physical in February, his doctors decided he didn't need a cognitive test.

"Look, I have a cognitive test every day," he said in an interview on Friday with ABC News. Samuel Corum/Getty ImagesCompared to Trump, Biden has released far more comprehensive medical information, with the most recent update coming in February of 2024. One cognitive test is not sufficient to detect issues, doctors told the Wall Street Journal. In it, Dr. Bruce Aronwald said that he has conducted "several comprehensive examinations" and called Trump's cognitive exams "exceptional." Like Biden, though, Trump has made significant public gaffes, such as when he called the president of Egypt the "president of Mexico."

Boeing’s announcement on Sunday that it had agreed to plead guilty to a federal criminal charge as part of a deal with the Justice Department was the culmination of a yearslong crisis involving the company’s 737 Max plane. The agreement may help Boeing put to rest a federal case stemming from two fatal crashes of the 737 Max in 2018 and 2019. Here’s what else to know about Boeing’s deal with federal prosecutors and other challenges the company is dealing with. Boeing and the Justice Department first reached an agreement in 2021 about the two crashes that allowed the company to avoid criminal charges. But federal prosecutors this year said that the company had violated the terms of that agreement and came up with a new one, which was agreed to in principle on Sunday.

Washington CNN —President Joe Biden’s struggle to prove he’s got the strength and cognitive capacity for a second term is becoming an excruciating personal and national ordeal. While his interview performance was far stronger than the president’s often incoherent showing at the CNN debate in Atlanta, that’s not saying much. He appeared more composed and fluent than at the CNN debate. But Democratic Rep. Brad Sherman of California told CNN that the president needed to do a prolonged and live television interview unlike the recorded one on ABC. But increasingly, it seems as though the fear of a Trump term may be overwhelming satisfaction with Biden’s achievements.
