CNN —The US Secret Service was “solely responsible” for the implementation and execution of security at the site of Saturday’s rally for former President Donald Trump’s campaign, Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle told CNN in an interview Tuesday evening. “At that particular site, we divided up areas of responsibility, but the Secret Service is totally responsible for the design and implementation and the execution of the site,” she told CNN. Wharton School finance professor Jeremy Siegel said markets are already anticipating a second Trump bump after the attempted assassination of the former president on Saturday raised the odds he will win the November election. He's more free market, he's antiregulatory, for growth," Siegel told CNBC's "Squawk Box" on Monday. Will there be a second time where those entrepreneurial spirits could rise and boost the stock market?" Siegel made his comments after the assassination on Trump raised the likelihood the Republican will win the presidency for a second time. "They're not thrilled about the tariffs," Siegel said of Wall Street.

Keir Starmer, Britain’s newest leader, wants to force lawmakers in the country’s upper chamber to step down at the same age. Does this mean he thinks octogenarians like President Joe Biden should step back from politics? Starmer said the talks were “a really good opportunity” for him to “speak to the president about the special relationship” between their two countries. He said Biden “deserves credit” for presiding over a summit that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called a success. “I took over the Labour Party four and a half years ago.

Jerusalem CNN —Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reneged on a key Israeli concession in ceasefire negotiations, demanding that armed men be barred from returning to northern Gaza during an eventual ceasefire, an Israeli source familiar with the talks told CNN. Israel had previously agreed to allow Palestinians fully unrestricted access to northern Gaza during an eventual ceasefire, but the Israeli Prime Minister told his negotiating team this week to demand that armed men be barred from northern Gaza as part of any ceasefire and hostage deal, the source said. The new demand could potentially upend progress in hostage negotiations and raises further questions about Netanyahu’s commitment to Israel’s own proposal for a deal that has become the basis for detailed negotiations. Israel had said it wouldn’t end the war until all hostages are freed and Hamas is eliminated. CNN has reached out to the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office for comment.

CNN —Donald Trump urged the judge in his New York hush money case to dismiss his conviction in light of the Supreme Court’s ruling on presidential immunity last month, according to a new court filing. “In order to vindicate the Presidential immunity doctrine, and protect the interests implicated by its underpinnings, the jury’s verdicts must be vacated and the Indictment dismissed,” Trump’s attorneys wrote to Judge Juan Merchan. “Much of the unconstitutional official-acts evidence concerned actions taken pursuant to ‘core’ Executive power for which ‘absolute’ immunity applies.”The district attorney’s office declined to comment for this story. The district attorney’s office will respond later this month, and Merchan said he will decide the matter in September, with a potential sentencing scheduled on September 18, if necessary. Trump’s sentencing would be postponed until September 18, Merchan wrote – “if such is still necessary.”The district attorney’s reply to Trump is due on July 24.

The rally in stocks could be endangered if the Fed doesn't cut rates soon, Jeremy Siegel warned. The Wharton professor made the case for the central bank to cut rates in September as data softens. AdvertisementThe rally in stocks and the strength of the economy is at risk if the Fed doesn't start cutting interest rates soon, according to Wharton professor Jeremy Siegel. No rate cut in September could put a recession on the table, Siegel warned, in addition to endangering the trajectory for stocks. CNN —Keir Starmer’s historic victory in Britain’s general election Thursday hands him a level of power that was unthinkable for a Labour leader just five years ago. Convincing the public that the Labour Party could be trusted with public finances was a big part of his electoral campaign. Most notably, the hard-right Reform UK, led by friend of Donald Trump Nigel Farage, secured 14% of the national vote. It’s extremely likely that with Starmer now in power, Farage and his acolytes will turn their attention to tearing chunks out of the Labour Party. Fortunately for Starmer, he has quite a lot of political capital to spend.

London CNN —The Labour Party has won a landslide victory in the UK general election, sweeping into power after 14 years of Conservative rule on the back of a wave of public disillusionment. Addressing the nation from outside 10 Downing Street for the first time as prime minister, Starmer had one overarching message: Change starts now. There were high-profile casualties, with the short-lived former Prime Minister Liz Truss and several cabinet ministers being booted out by voters. Conservative leader and, as of Friday morning, former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak took responsibility for the electoral wipeout, apologizing to voters in his farewell address. Leaving the palace as the newly minted prime minister, he then headed straight to Downing Street.
