NEW YORK (AP) — The HBCU Transformation Project, a coalition of 40 historically Black colleges and universities, on Wednesday announced a $124 million gift from philanthropic funders Blue Meridian Partners to increase enrollment, graduation rates and employment rates for the schools' graduates. “This very significantly scaled grant from them signals to the philanthropic community that this is a really good investment to make,” he said of the Blue Meridian gift. The donation will expand the work of the project, which has already received $75 million from Blue Meridian Partners since 2020. Blue Meridian Partners also provided funds to those organizations to improve their capacity to support the schools. HBCUs have received significantly less support from philanthropic foundations than predominantly white schools.

New Era, which makes caps affiliated with the National Football League (NFL), Major League Baseball (MLB) and National Basketball Association (NBA), has invited investment banks and law firms to pitch this month for roles in its stock market debut, the sources said. As an Asian American student with a 3.7 unweighted GPA, he said, I had no chance of getting into such a prestigious university. But for myself and fellow Asian American applicants, it was an ever-present obstacle to overcome. At every turn, I was reminded that I was competing against other, more-qualified Asian American students and that I was fighting to defy rampant stereotypes. To the Editor:Re “What if We’re the Bad Guys Here?,” by David Brooks (column, Aug. 4):I am sick and tired of people like Mr. Brooks telling me that I am the problem or the “bad guy” because I am educated (and no, I was not educated at an Ivy League school, and neither of my parents finished high school) to justify the fact that 35 percent of the population are fervent supporters of Donald Trump, no matter what he says or does. Moreover, Mr. Trump is also part of the elite, but his supporters simply ignore this. This is not because he identifies with them in any way (as a golden-haired billionaire living in a mansion), but because Fox, Newsmax, and other right-wing TV and radio media outlets, right-wing militias and Trump puppet politicians in Congress essentially brainwashed them with their daily dose of propaganda about how the “left wing socialists and communists,” “elites,” the “woke,” etc., are all conspiring to take their country and only Donald Trump can stop them. In my opinion, this is the biggest problem, Mr. Brooks, not educated Americans who as you correctly state are “are earnest, kind and public spirited.”So, let’s not beat ourselves up because the other side has been completely brainwashed, does not accept facts, scientific and otherwise, is obsessed with conspiracies and lives in a right-wing echo chamber.

I never thought I'd write this but … I miss the old Goldman Sachs. That was the voice of Goldman Sachs 2009 — the adamantine firm that managed to make its way through the crisis relatively unscathed. This sort of dry humor worked back then, but for today's Goldman Sachs, the joke just doesn't hit the same way. Van Praag — who was once dubbed "Goldman Sachs' Rococo PR prince" by The Observer — left the firm in 2012. It would be nice to see the old Goldman Sachs ferocity is still out there somewhere, even if it's not on Wall Street.
