My husband and I each speak our native languages to the kids, and they learn German from day care and school. It's fantastic that they're growing up with three languages, but sometimes having multiple languages can present some quandaries when it comes to finding baby names. One classic example is that certain letters sound different in various languages, such as the letter "j," which makes a "y" sound in languages like Spanish and German but a "djuh" sound in English. As a result, names like Jonas or Juliana may not sound quite the same in different languages. You can also test out names in various languages if you're unsure how they'll be received by talking directly to native speakers.

Read previewElon Musk's X overhauled its sensitive media policy this week, signaling an increasing coziness with the world of adult content. Porn is already a part of twitters audiences appetite so they will have to meet (OSA) priority content duties anyway. Related storiesBut taking pornography on board so squarely ramps up concerns for X users. It's also unclear how X vets material that is posted nonconsensually, Thornhill, who has advised UK lawmakers on porn regulation, said. Earlier this year, TechCrunch also reported that Musk was toying with the idea of revitalizing X's "communities" feature, with NSFW adult content.

The "revenue driver" in question is last year's advertising blitz from large online Chinese retailers that made up about 10% of Meta's overall revenue. Evidence of slower or moderating ad spending from big retailers with ties to the world's second-largest economy could force Meta to lean into some of its other strengths. Analysts at the firm conducted a stress test — benchmarking a worst-case scenario for Meta's Chinese ad revenue in the second half of 2024. Mizuho analysts said Meta can leverage volume drivers such as increasing the ad load on Reels using artificial intelligence. Mizuho also believes special events like the U.S. presidential election and the Olympics should help support ad spending in the back half of the year.

The Irish culture and people are unmatchedThe drinking culture in Ireland can be enjoyable. But, part of what makes the drinking and eating culture so vibrant in Ireland is the quality of the food and drink here. Plus, it's cheaper for me to shop for fresh produce in Ireland than it ever was in the US. At University College Dublin (UCD), I paid about €72,000, or about $78,000, for all four years of school and received a bachelor's degree in English. Spain, Ireland and Norway are set to formally recognize a Palestinian state today — a move that will bolster the global Palestinian cause but has further strained relations between Europe and Israel. Nations that don't include staunch allies of Israel such as the United States and Germany. On May 10, a non-binding vote at the UN General Assembly showed overwhelming international support for an independent Palestinian state, leaving the US and a few of Israel’s allies isolated. Israel and the US maintain that a Palestinian state should only be established through a negotiated settlement. It comes after the International Court of Justice ordered Israel to immediately halt its military operation in Rafah.

Three European nations formally recognized an independent Palestinian state on Tuesday, drawing the ire of Israel as it continued to press its military offensive in Gaza. The previously announced moves by Spain, Norway and Ireland are largely symbolic, but serve as a rebuke to Israel in the face of mounting international frustration over the country’s military offensive in Gaza and its occupation of Palestinian territories over the years. Growing concern over the civilian death toll could prompt more nations to follow suit, analysts say. Israel’s foreign minister, Israel Katz, on Tuesday accused Spain’s prime minister, Pedro Sánchez, of complicity in incitement against Jews for his role in recognizing a Palestinian state. “Furthermore, our decision reflects our absolute rejection of Hamas, a terrorist organization that is against a two-state solution.”

We passed row after row of pristine white tombs, the dead of all the just wars and unjust wars that made and remade this country, and my relative told us he found it quite moving; he hadn’t been expecting that. Perhaps he thought it’d be more bombastic, or obviously militaristic, and he was taken by the beauty and serenity and quiet dignity of the place. The Marines were trying to manage the chaos of the poorly planned evacuation of Afghans from Kabul — a humanitarian mission at heart, trying to help those we were abandoning. AdvertisementAmong my kids' classmates and friends, I can't name a single child born in recent years whose name falls into this category. Related storiesOne of my kids technically has a gender-neutral name, but admittedly, it wasn't an issue when we named him in Germany. Another interesting fact is that common German last names, like Schroeder or Fischer, can't be given as first names in Germany. The reason for these names being rejected is due to child protection grounds, as they are seen by German law as acts of child cruelty. Fortunately, this particular law was never an issue for us — we certainly never intended to give our children names like Stalin or Captain Marvel.

European Union flags fly outside the European Commission building in Brussels, Belgium, on April 12. They add: “It was precisely to avert such a grim world order that our grandparents, witnesses of the horrors of World War II, created Europe. The calls come in the same week that three European countries – Ireland, Spain and Norway - announced plans to formally recognize a Palestinian state. Although Norway is not an EU member, the plans do have the potential to exert greater pressure on the countries’ western allies to take a tougher stance on the Israel-Hamas conflict. But the move is not a coordinated European effort and the bloc has long struggled to speak with one voice.
